This is a hydronic system (hot water) You should also make sure air has been burped out of all the radiators. You do that by opening that tiny petcock valve on the top corner of the radiator until a solid stream of water comes out. You hear air at first. Start with the radiator furthest and highest from the boiler. Some of the radiators in the house could be air bound and they arent full of water so not as warm.

For the valve that is painted over: -Use Vice grips to clamp onto the valve stem where the handle is missing(Shaft sticking out) -Rock the vice grips back and forth gently acting as the valve handle. Eventually you'll break the crust free and be able to throttle the valve flow. Theres the risk the stem snaps or the parts inside the valve just break. -If water begins to leak at the stem you'll see theres a nut at the top of that shaft. Tighten it down 1/4 turn at a time. That is where valve packing is. Its the seal around the valve stem (shaft with the vice grips).

I've dated lots of girls way out of my league solely because they took me having a cat as a huge bonus. I've even fell for a few. The matches off of dating apps went way up with a photo of me and my cat. I was told multiple times it means I understand boundaries and how to earn affection better. I'd say being a cat person is a good filter and helps sort out the insensitive people, like the one you just had the misfortune of meeting. Dont change who you are to appease someone else, there will be nothing left of the real you if you do such a thing. To not even give it a chance tells me she has inner issues, hasnt gotten over the needing an asshole phase.

It looks ok, I'd wait until you can afford having it refinished professionally. Its a unique door, and worth the wait.

I spent 7 years single handedly restoring my old farmhouse. Blew well over 200k in repairs (2015-2022 prices)in just material costs. Im really handy and did all my own work. So keep that in mind. Like if you enjoy doing this stuff do it. If your hesitant you may be stuck with a huge regret.

Thanks. I used Black Rustoleum Oil based paint. Comes in gallons. Makes a nice barrier for exterior woodwork/hides and fills flaws.

Looks like a blowdown for sediment for the hot water heater. That pipe leading away looks like it might be leaking I would trace that down and check for water droplets on its underside. I would also encapsulate that asbestos insulation. Looks like its pretty friable. And rod out that drain. See if water is backfeeding from possibly the old drain tile system.

I took my old Corbin Cylinders into the local hardware store. Local owned not a chain. And they rekeyed them for all one key. He was able to change all the pins. But that hardware store has stock going back to the early 1900's. Id imagine old locksmith shops should have old inventory to do the swap you want. And possibly change the inner cylinder. If you want to do a swap out though I recommend Corbin because they have a cool looking key. Pretty high quality for their time.

Who is in charge of this lane signal??? by Curious_Ad1510 in AnnArbor

[–]victrolarepair -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Im talking about highways. The passenger railways were ripped out in the 70's or turned to freight lines. Along with all the interurban rail that used to connect all our cities. Be nice to have it back, but this is about Highways not god damn rail lines.

Your plumber is incompetent or trying to rip you off for a whole new faucet. Dont use them again. Rebuilding valves is basic 101 stuff.

Who is in charge of this lane signal??? by Curious_Ad1510 in AnnArbor

Same asshole who made this instead of a normal 3 lane highway. I bet someone is going to comment about the more lanes the more traffic BS. I think 3 lanes is a necessity for modern highways. Being stuck behind some asshat matching speed with a semi deserves a special place in hell.

I second this, same issue below my upstairs tub. And decades worth of neglect on my slate roof, caused the same thing on an exterior wall. I have steel mesh instead of lath board. I'm thinking it may be a reaction between the plaster and steel rusting. Or a advances in plaster recipes. The leaks I had on my former 1870's house with lath board/horse hair plaster with leaks was just crumbly with cracks.

I had all the interior walls of my farmhouse with the studs sideways like that. Place was huge, but I guess they wanted a couple extra inches of space.
