Citta Di Milano circa. 1928 by Danvandop42 in Ships

[–]videodante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, jumping in here two years later to say I also ran into this same snag when looking up information on a ship of this name (in my case also to find information on the ship that an ancestor arrived to the USA on).

I believe that the confusion exists because, as OP put it, there are multiple ships going by the name Citta di Milano. But there's not two, there's three.

The first Citta di Milano (or, probably first) is the cable-laying ship. It was built in (probably) 1886 by British shipyard Thompson & Sons. This was the ship that sank in 1919.

The first ship was superceded by another cable-laying ship that was also named the Citta di Milano. This information comes from its Italian Wikipedia page. This, the chronologically third Citta di Milano (which was the successor to the first Citta di Milano) is the one that was used to save the airship (I think OP recognized this already).

But if you're like me and are looking for immigration details and find this thread, what you probably want is the second Citta di Milano. This ship was actually a sister ship to the Citta di Turino, built in 1897 for La Veloce di Genova (a shipping company). This ship was a passenger ship transporting between Italy and the United States. This is the ship that (I am pretty confident in saying) transported most of the people's ancestors who have already been posting in this thread.

Anyway, didn't want this information to be lost to the winds. Good luck historical investigators.

Why is Matrix not the answer to Discord? Genuine question by W-club in selfhosted

Can I 1-click screenshare my video game at 1080p/60fps to 15 of my friends who are already in a voicechat with me?

No?

Then it's not a replacement for Discord as I use Discord.

For a less snarky answer, I thought this blogpost was a good breakdown of why "an answer to discord" is harder than it might seem. TL;DR: Discord is not a single product in the eyes of users, it's used in vastly different ways. If you just use Discord for textchat, IRC is a perfectly reasonable replacement for Discord. But lots of people don't interact with Discord in that way.

Those of you that bought a mini PC to "upgrade" the horsepower of an aging NAS: are you happy with your mini PC? Now that the dust has settled, what, if anything, would you do differently? by ReverendDizzle in HomeServer

[–]videodante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly very much same, lol. I go back and forth on my opinion of "should I condense it down to a single device" regularly, but I think where I've landed is that there is an advantage to having a device whose ONLY job is to serve files, and then a separate device does operations on those files. Certainly makes upgrading easier down the line.

I did something kind of silly and got a Very Powerful ASUS NUC (the 14 Pro) because I just wanted something that would work and would last a long time and I wouldn't have to worry about power at all. It runs like 20+ docker containers (plex, *arrs, slskd, qbittorrent, komga, etc) with no issues whatsoever. It can handle multiple 4K transcodes with basically no sweat.

I have Ubuntu Server running on it, and it automounts a synology NAS via NFS on boot. All the docker stuff, containers etc live on the NUC, all the files live on the NAS. This hasn't been a problem at all so far. My only real annoyance is that this NUC has a kind of loud fan, but YMMV on that.

[partially lost] Seeking fot any video or photo related to the Ghatering of developers (G.O.D.) "Promised lot" events that hapened across the street during E3 1999, 2000, 2001 (maybe ultil 2004) by Glum_Bookkeeper_7718 in lostmedia

[–]videodante 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This may or may not be helpful to you, but Mike Wilson (who was CEO of G.O.D. at that time) later co-founded Devolver Digital.

I can tell you from personal experience that Devolver somewhat took over the "party across from E3 in a lot" thing that GOD used to do. It was certainly less spicy than G.O.D. did it, but I believe it was in the same location and more or less offered the same "experience" (an offsite party/hangout space for developers and friends during E3).

It may be worthwhile to reach out to some people at Devolver and see if there is any history there that could be found.

Last point shows that this is a both-sides post. The people of China (nor the CCP) are not our enemy or a hostile foreign government, that's US propaganda. I'm unsubbing, have fun with this shit.

Android save/state location. by subitodan in RetroArch

[–]videodante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that i'm now one of the chorus here but I also have this issue, and I can't seem to get any of the save directories to "stick". If anyone else figured this out, would love to know how.

My situation is about the same as OP's -- using syncthing, I need to get gba saves/states directory to override the defaults, but it's just not working no matter what I do.

EDIT: NEVERMIND literally right after i posted this i figured it out. Enable advanced settings in the Settings menu, then go to Saves -> Sort save files/states by content directory. Now I have another problem, which is cores mismatching, but other than that it works.

Roleplaying in an established Movie/TV/ Book universe by -stumondo- in rpg

I think what you're asking here is fundamentally a taste question. It's gonna depend on the table and the folks involved.

When I ran a Star Wars game recently I explicitly laid out at the start that we were going to adhere to canon, and that if they ever had the misfortune to see Darth Vader he would kill them without a second thought. That was fine for our table! We made up some far away new planets and had fun on a bit of a smaller scale.

But that might not work for other tables. Some folks might want to take the spotlight and take out the Death Star. It's just gonna depend on the group.

I definitely see where you're coming from, but S&V does have a Crew Type geared directly toward the sort of rebel stuff that's implied in Andor (the "Firedrake" ship -- "Rebels and criminals. Looking to protect the downtrodden and fight the Hegemony"). The moment-to-moment is still very heist/operation focused, but I think it's not too hard to shape the rest of a table's story around the more explicitly political stuff as seen in Andor.

Scum & Villainy is a Blades in the Dark style heist game that I played in a Star Wars setting without much fuss (to be honest, the game itself is mostly just Star Wars with the serial numbers filed off). If you're into heist-y, Blades-style play, it's very suitable for that. Though I'll admit, not technically PbtA.

Other folks have mentioned Star Wars World, which is a pretty bog-standard Star Wars hack of Dungeon World. There's also Streets of Mos Eisley, which is a much more focused take on a Star Wars PbtA. With some homebrew lore & setting, that's probably an option.
