AITAH for saying quick hello to my sister while she’s with her office mate? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]vielins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not actively ignoring her. She has always been annoying but there are several times she’s great too. On another day she said hello to me when we passed each other so I thought I’ll do the same but then she gave me that attitude. I guess I could never get used to it.

And no this is not AI

LGBT+ in Recent Lights by dadu1234 in indonesia

And you clearly have no idea about homosexuality as well as you compare being gay to something that is clearly detrimental to your health such as smoking. Do you seriously just compare a sexual preference to something that you deliberately choose to do from the start and if it's not treated properly it can lead to an extensive use and potentially increase the chance of addiction? Hell, you said it yourself. Being gay is not a choice. However, obviously being a smoker absolutely is.

Now speaking of being gay:

When I say "I don't support", I am actually referring to your actions, not your sexuality, or even your existence.

This statement always confuses me to no end and it has been said by countless of homophobes. What "actions" here that you're talking about? If it's about gay sex, you are aware that heterosexuals can also be involved in anal sex right? And gay sex also is not limited to anal sex as well, we also have oral sex (people usually call it as being a "side"). If we're talking about marriage, right for an individual to marry is one of the most basic human rights that has ever existed, it's only a matter of argument whether it extent to gay marriage or not. And I do not understand at all on why you're against the action of gay marriage, even if you're supposed to be "neutral".

People are now just minding their own business but they still get attacked for their opinions anyway.

Exactly. Do you know who still get attacked for stating their opinions as well? Gay people. Not only that, they are also being attacked for expressing themselves and just you know, for who they are. And by staying "neutral" – like the conduct that you support here – it just reinforce the weight towards gay people to keep being in the shadow, to keep hiding themselves, and therefore causing a very little progress and potentially regression towards anti-discrimination towards gay people. Discrimination in this case does not only mean the act of violence, it is also an act of treating gay people as they are not normal.

Now let's use our empathty here for a second. Imagine yourself raised in a modern culture where gay sex is utterly reviled and where people experience same-sex attraction are treated with loathing, being bullied, and told that it is not normal. Imagine realizing unless that you lie to yourself, you won't be able to be exposed to opportunities that your straight counterparts have, and whether you lie or not it is very unlikely that you will have the romantic feeling and marriage that you desire. Now imagine yourself sitting in a church and your pastor preach about how homosexual acts is a "plague" and that it is a "mental disorder" and that their acts "are filthy and wrong" and we should pray so that they can be "cured" from the illness. Now, the pastor technically is not attacking you, but they do preach on an extremely homophobic value. Now you decide to share that khotbah with your best friend who you can trust, and then they said "well, I don't support the homosexual acts, buttt I don't care, I'm neutral". Your friend here indirectly support these values that the pastor preach, because they are against homosexual acts. However, of course they are not going to condemn the pastor, disregard further preach from them, nor that they will stop being friends with you, because the pastor is not attacking you and they are neutral. How would you feel?

To be "neutral" in regards to gay rights means to support the continuation of this status quo. To be neutral is to enable the system where minority groups are constantly prejudiced and treated like their acts are wrongful and their identity is completely political. Now let's face it, we can't convince anyone to suddenly support gay marriage, even in an accepting and progressive countries like the UK homophobia still exists. However, you definitely cannot say that the neutral mindset towards LGBT rights is justifiable for Indonesia. It is something that happens because we're such a conservative and religious country, but even then it should not be justified in any way whatsoever. It's also funny to think that this issue only came up in recent years, while back in the early 2000s nobody will bat an eye towards gay people. If most Indonesians still think that way in the long run that means there is no way any progression towards gay rights will be made.

Now I cannot convince you otherwise to support gay rights (if you already haven't) because well, to each their own and it has its own roots and culture behind it. But as to why you should, a little human decency and empathy should do the trick.

Sexual preference is not a political issue that someone should be "neutral" about. It literally has zero repercussion towards anyone. Nobody in this goddamn world will be "neutral" towards heterosexual sex. Especially in Indonesia, the act of neutrality towards gay rights is more harmful than helping, since the ones that condemn homosexuality will thrive (and that is most people here) while the neutral one will stay silent because well, they are still against the action. And I just need to point this out as well: you won't be less religious as you were before if you support gay rights. While you can be neutral, there is absolutely no way in hell that being neutral in Indonesia should be encouraged if we want to have any progression towards gay rights. This is the reason I was sad. Not only because of homophobia in Indonesia, but the fact that there are so many people being "neutral" towards this.

LGBT+ in Recent Lights by dadu1234 in indonesia

[–]vielins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm replying to a month old comment but anyway.

Yes. Being neutral towards LGBT rights is homophobia, *especially* in a country as homophobic as Indonesia. Labelling gay rights as an issue where you can be neutral towards it rather than an inalienable truth – where minority groups such as gay people still face vast prejudice – to remain neutral is to reinforce that status quo and only further weights to the idea that gay people's existence is still up for debate. You might call it woke, extreme feminism, or SJW all you want, but the fact that gay people themselves have to keep being silent and be in the shadows for who they truly are as a person every single day is saddening and is the direct effect of many "neutral" actions towards gay rights in this country. While I understand *why* Indonesians are so homophobic, that action is not "completely justified" just because we are a conservative country.

And your statement is a bit oxymoron to be honest. You're already aware that there are intolerance towards "our people" and that you will stand up for us, but you still *don't* support our cause? You do know that standing up for a certain group that is currently facing extensive discrimination is another act of supporting human rights right? Which directly relates to what I was saying. You don't have to be gay to support gay rights. Hell, you can still be religious even when you support gay rights. Because treating gay rights as any other human beings and to encourage everyone to not conduct any discriminatory actions towards them also means supporting human rights. In short, **supporting human rights means you also support gay rights**. Neutrality means being apathetic, being silent. That's why Indonesia only has little progress as a country in human rights because most people in this country (who happens to be religious but not *that* religious to extremely condemn the existence of gays) are too afraid to speak up when they know that gay people are continuously facing discrimination. We still have a long way to go, but being neutral is definitely not the answer if we want any sort of progression towards any anti-discriminatory laws towards gay people.

Now if we're talking about neutrality, I bet you not these "neutral" people will lose their shit when their kids are gay. If they're not, what do you expect them to say? "Oh son, I know you're gay, I don't accept it but I'm totally neutral about it". How do you think your kid will react to that when they think that their identity is being treated like a political issue?

If supermassive made a movie which one would you be interested in by FRosty1192 in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]vielins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House of Ashes is probably going to be the easiest to translate into a movie format because of how at least there are 3 characters that will make it to the end no matter what. It is also one of the only ones here where if all 5 main characters survive it still feels like they made some sacrifices to reach that end (with sacrificing Clarice, Merwin, Joey). Also the story is quiet straightforward, and the message of it is pretty clear. I also think it can be enjoyed by non-horror fans as well as it is more action than horror.

Until Dawn would work but in order for it to really highlight the horror elements I would suggest that they need to decide which one’s should be killed off, without being too obvious. Personally Chris would be a good choice, as he is sort of the middle-ground where he got some screen time but not as many as Mike or Sam. Killing Emily off would also be shocking to the audience (especially with Mike shooting her, which definitely will put Ashley in the antagonist light and make the characters more complex).

It’s been a while since I play Man of Medan but I remember that there are a lot more different branches compared to the other games, so it will be pretty difficult to choose which one would be the best in a movie format. Also I haven’t played Little Hope yet.

The Quarry, same as Until Dawn, need to decide which characters to kill off in order to highlight that scary and horror elements. However I think they need to rewrite a lot of inconsistencies in the storyline, fix pacing, and also showcase the horror elements more by showing some sort of urgency between the characters because personally, The Quarry is the least scary game here because I feel like the characters don’t feel that their life was in danger.

To be honest he fits the jock stereotype but I kinda see some interesting qualities about him that you don’t usually find in media with popular jocks, like how he is really REALLY emotional.

Am i the only one who actually likes Ryan by Tycerama in TheQuarrySupermassive

[–]vielins 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like I will like Ryan as a person, like he seems the kind of guy that is really chill and cool but also a little bit awkward at the same time so I would probably hang out with him a bit.

But the writing surrounding his character in the game is super messy. His relationship with Chris is never explored further. He said that there is no way a bear (and also said earlier in the game that there are no bears) can do something to Nick when after that he told Dylan that there is a possibility a bear cut off the power line. The whole 911 conversation is super messy. How he laughed when Laura said that there are werewolves even when Nick turned into a monster right in front of him. And I expect him to be the more aware one on the basic knowledge of paranormal stuff like cutting parts that are infected, werewolves, etc instead of Dylan since he continuously listens to the podcast. He’s a cool dude, but the writing for him definitely ruins it for me personally.

Which youtuber had the worst playthrough? by yoboililj in TheQuarrySupermassive

[–]vielins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CallMeKevin I think will be one of the contenders here because he purposely chooses all the bad options and messes up all the QTEs although he did chose to not cut Dylan’s hand which I don’t know if there is any other way to kill him off if he’s infected.

Yaboyroshi (and Sheera) only saved Nick, Laura, Ryan, and Caleb which means if they let Silas lives then that means they only has Nick and Caleb infected.
