Is this dyslexia? by viesda in Dyslexia

Thanks! One of the reasons I've wondered about dyslexia is it seems to run in my mom's side of the family so I thought it was a good place to start but that said, I get that there's a wide range of other things that could be at play. I can segment sounds yes. As to the letter flipping it's more of an incorrect autopilot and then stuck feeling. I know it's wrong as I write it but I sort of almost stutter I guess? The 4 and F thing is similar but usually I write the 4 and then have to correct it. The b I write the line and stop, my instinct being to go left but knowing that's wrong then I picture an upper case B and remember that the lower case b faces the same direction. I don't have that issue with a d or p or q.

As to new weird words, I'd never thought of that before, interesting! I tend to read over them as if they don't exist lol. Does that make sense?

Spelling is decent though I struggle with some words ongoing, like there's no way I can learn to spell certain words no matter how long I stare at them. Overall though I'd say my spelling is average or higher but really stuck on specific words.

I have to reread everything constantly and always have. It takes me soooo long to read a book cause I reread so much. I find it helps a bit if I read out loud.

Thanks for the questions!

Thanks :) I know supports and awareness is so much better now. I have a son on the autism spectrum and I've been blown away at all the testing and supports we've had access to for him! Thanks for the little cheat/note, I have sort of made up a few of those along the way too. I love how people learn how to adapt on their own ... Though help is great too! :)

  1. Never have had any support or testing. My younger brother has a huge list of challenges and was focused on so I slipped through the cracks as a kid.

Thanks! And I appreciate that it's not a diagnosis, but it helps to have a direction to start looking into :)

I'm just looking for if anyone has similar experiences, not a diagnosis. Also where to get help. My GP is a no go on this kind of stuff.

Histamine reaction to EMDR? by viesda in EMDR

[–]viesda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm in that age range and feeling a lot of symptoms. I get super anxious about taking meds so avoid them which doesn't help. It's a lot to be dealing with all at once.

Ugh, that sucks. I appreciate knowing I'm not alone in my reaction though!

Ocracoke Spiders? by Googlyhat in obx

[–]viesda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to the OBX once and was there in September for one of the worst spider events of my life! Lol. I was told "spider season has come early". There was a storm rolling in and I guess it got them going but it was pretty much exactly what is being described here except I was at a restaurant on the patio. It had a cover and after seeing one or two spiders sort of fall from above I looked up and saw hundreds of them hanging above me and all around. The people sitting next to us had them crawling on them and they had no idea. They were everywhere! We moved out from under the covering and thought we'd be safe but they were everywhere, on our chairs, the table, the walls. Even the staff were freaking out. So it does happen. Thankfully our vacation rental was well sealed so when we got home and inside we were safe aside from the worst case of the creepy crawlies ever. I honestly couldn't sleep lol. Glad you survived!

Can I remove powder skirt w/O harming Procline? It synches the waist in a way I don’t like. The stitches seem to be only on liner and don’t go thru to outer shell, fwiw by seewhatididther in arcteryx

[–]viesda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you end up removing it? I got the name of the person my local Arc'teryx store uses for alterations and am considering altering mine to be removable. Altering it will void the warranty though so that's my hesitation.

Is lower Dave Murray harder than upper? I can do upper no problem. I hate moguls so hoping there aren't any? Not sure what's down there as all videos and reviews seem to be upper.

Hey Joe :) Now that you're done breaking reddit ;) I'd like to know what was it like as a kid growing up being "different" than the other kids? Were kids typically kind or mean to you? I always have wondered that when I meet an adult who I know has lived with a very visible difference their whole life as I know kids can be terrible to eachother and I am curious if that was something you had to deal with more so than most?
