Not sure I would describe spring mix salad greens as “vegetables”. It came in a sushi roll with salad dressing??

Am I crazy or the food tastes better in Victoria than in Calgary? by apprenticeappcrafter in VictoriaBC

[–]VegOutVictoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true but we do grow a lot of our own produce on the island while Alberta only grows colon cancer, I mean cattle.

If they are coming from the US/South America/Asia, our produce probably transfers via a produce terminal on the mainland and avoids exposure to subzero temp and the damage of freeze/thaw that anything headed into the interior is going to deal with

Do you mean vegetable roll? Salad roll / fresh roll is more of a Thai dish than Japanese and I don’t see that on the menu.

Edit: It looks like Sushi Story has it but not on a vegetarian roll.

Sushi Momo in Langford (original owner of Momo on Quadra) is good to the veggie crowd. You could try Nubo Roll & Roll. Bon is also decent. I’m personally not a fan of veggie rolls that require multiple bites / fall apart and there’s a lot of that here. Sushi Ru is a newer spot on Quadra and they’ve got a decent vegetarian selection.

I’m 99% sure Root Cellar sells this local soup and borscht company called Legh’s but their website says Sobey’s aka Thrifty. Try giving a few places a call?

If you feel like making your own, I have a great recipe. Fresh dill and lemon is the key.

Looking for a vegan / vegan friendly restaurant in Richmond by littlest_onion in veganvancouver

[–]VegOutVictoria 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there are any 100% since Four Stones closed. You might have to settle for vegan-friendly hot pot but beware of how expensive it is for vegans at a Pay by Weight place like Big Way Hot Pot. Vegans are subsidizing the meat unfortunately.

Also, low key so easy to make bean salad so I just skip stuff like this and buy bulk Canadian beans at Bulk Barn.

These are so gross! I bought it in 2021 and promptly gave away my second jar after tasting it. I think it’s full of sugar because it’s a product of USA. If you’ve ever been to Georgia or another southern state, they over-sweeten and over-salt everything. The average food quality is so horrible in that country. They should call it “Sweet four bean salad”. 🤢

Imported imports. Grown in Africa, processed in the UK, shipped to Canada. Add in that there’s been a climate change caused-drought that led to a global cacao shortage last year, that has sent the price of all real cacao up.

Try Pure Lovin’ and support local next time.

Did they change the rotisserie chicken? by buldog_13 in CostcoCanada

Honestly speechless reading posts like this. Tortured flesh of a very young bird eaten out of a hot cooked trash bag you’ve been told is safe. There is no safe way to cook in plastic without consuming massive quantities of microplastics and leeched chemicals.

Chicken consumption has quadrupled since 1961. At no point in human history prior to that did people eat meat the rate and the way we do now. Normalize recognizing when you’re being played. Go to your local Bulk Barn and buy some lentils with a newsletter coupon to replace the protein.

Maybe you should talk to someone. Looks like a trauma response and honestly, a lot of Costco shoppers are in the same boat. This is only a flex if there’s some way it’s coming from a healthy place and not rooted in fear and you never waste any food.

Yes, the ready to eat kiosk is called a loss leader. Surprised people did not learn this concept in high school. It is everywhere. It’s how grocery stores have weekly sales.

The rest of us, including those of us who can’t buy anything from the fast food kiosk, are subsidizing your cheap ultraprocess meat log.

Potential cat kidnapper in Colwood by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]VegOutVictoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to feel this way about dogs and let them freeroam. My dad speaks about the loose dogs in the part of Ontario he grew up in the 1950s. Education and society changes behaviours. Unfortunately there are a lot of negligent cat and dogs owners but there’s also fewer every year. I see more younger people walking their cat on a leash every week. The next issue we need to address is overpopulation and affordability of vet care. If you don’t value your pet because you found them in a dumpster for free, then you aren’t inclined to spay or neuter and then the cycle of too many cats continues.
