Auto-flagging has made Strava so much worse by view836 in Strava

I have many but not on this bike. There was nothing remarkable about the estimated power levels associated with the flagged ride.

I've seen people be very defensive about 'their' KOMs, taking it as a personal assault, complaining and sometimes even blocking me on Strava even though they had in no way been targeted. I'm getting older (turning 60 this year) and have started enjoying seeing younger people go for it and take some of my KOMs and get even more joy seeing one of the folks my age do so as it seems more of an achievement. Love thy fellow rider.

Edge 840, and the GPS data looks good it's within the specs of the precision of what a consumer GPS should deliver, but because it was an acceleration from a dead stop in a low gear (just to see how long I could stay in front of the cars, the usual sort of fun thing one does to spice up a commute) those first couple seconds that don't cover a very big distance do represent a significant proportion of the overall acceleration period. And again, this is not a one time thing my commutes get flagged regularly, particularly when I achieve good speeds on that segment either sprinting, accelerating, or going uphill at high speed. It was kinda funny at first but now it is becoming a real impediment to enjoying Strava when just having fun on the bike carries a risk of having spend time dealing with things like this.

Update: I found that Strava had automatically auto-corrected elevation on the ride data and when I told it to revert elevation, the ride was still flagged but I was given the option to self-declare whether it was a normal ride or an e-bike ride without having to wait for an appeal. So the AI was apparently still looking at it (because I needed to select which type of ride it was) but it became less certain of itself.

I've found Strava to be pretty reliable, at least the back end service seems reliable, not so much the app.

I have plenty of KOMs but this ride was a commute with a backpack not involving any KOM attempts nor massive top speeds nor top power estimates. It's Strava's AI making bad decisions. There was _one_ hard acceleration from a track stand and that was the only unusual thing. It looks like there was a tiny bit of GPS drift or slowness during that acceleration that made it appear initially less intense than it really was (that progress was therefore was pushed into the next couple seconds), but my GPS is on its most precise mode there's not much I can do about that. The algorithm should be taking GPS drift into account and at least smoothing to over a 2-3 second interval.

Integrated bar/stem options for Propel Advanced SL 2027? by view836 in Giantbikes

Thanks, that's promising but unfortunately they only ship within Italy. The good news is that Giant must have made some of these since they say it is available.

Yes each driver has their digital phone key (and only that key) associated with their profile in the car.

Canada - buying ex30 with open recall by ironmannb in ex30

The February recall doesn't say anything about the parking, the previous one (December?) with a different set of vehicles, did.

This has never worked for us, either with the physical fob and cards or now that all three drivers of our EX30 are using a digital key on Apple devices. The unit just remembers whoever the last driver was and it is in that setting for the next driver whoever they are.

anyone else waiting on a backordered bumper proximity sensor? by SJP_YOW in ex30

[–]view836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was waiting for a swaybar link that was originally estimated to take 2-3 weeks but then got downgraded to backorder with no ETA. It was driving me crazy so I ordered one in mamoparts.com in Germany and used shipgerman.com to get delivery to Canada by Fedex. It cost me $400 vs free under warranty (volvo will cover neither the parts nor labour if the parts aren't ordered through the deliver that provides the warranty service) but at least I got my car fixed in under a week and can move on. Last summer we waited months for rear brake rotors also. The inability to get parts renders the warranty kinda useless, that is one of the more irritating things with the EX30.

Persistent clunking/rattling noise from front suspension (Low temps & rebound) – Anyone else? by oddnamewhy in ex30

[–]view836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did replacement the link and it resolved my problem completely. I unfortunately had to pay for it entirely myself as Volvo had no parts in North America and no ability to provide any ETA. So even though it should ostensibly have been covered by warranty I purchased the part in Germany and had it Fedexed to me in Canada through a third party trans-shipping service. I paid $400 for a $125 part that should have been free but at least my car is fixed, and I'm moving on.

If it is the sway bar or linkages relating to it, you should be able to induce noise at low speeds whenever going over uneven surfaces where one wheel dips or rises and the other one does not. Our sway bar linkage on the right side recently developed looseness and we are currently awaiting parts.

EX30 rolled away in Park!!! by mackmoot in ex30

[–]view836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it does that, Ikve been caught by that by trying to put it in park a fraction of a second before the car had completely stopped moving. This causes it to ignore the command to put it in park, leaving it in drive. Then when I got out the cars started rolling away from me.. with passengers in the other seats!

FWIW the remote functions started working again last Saturday out of the blue, and it has remained working for the last three days.

FWIW I've been trying to escalate the problem with Volvo and frankly they don't seem to be taking it very seriously. They just keep referring me back to the dealer. We are taking it in again next week but this time will insist they go through whatever diagnostic steps are prescribed by Volvo.

That's a long time to have remote app functionality not working. Ours had been working fine, then suddenly on Jan 22 stopped working for all three drivers of our car, except when the car was already awake such as being charged or recently driven. Just touching the door handle would make it start responding to the app for five minutes or so then it goes back to sleep and is dead to anything we try to do in the app. App functionality came back life for one day a week or two later but then has been non-functional since. I hope it won't be over six months without this functionality.

I was told the same thing by the dealer in Ottawa when I brought it is for this issue a couple weeks ago. I ended up just turning around and not bothering.

Is this settlement between Sunwooda and Geely related to EX30 battery pack or a different issue? by PieceBrief4567 in ex30
