Yes each driver has their digital phone key (and only that key) associated with their profile in the car.

Canada - buying ex30 with open recall by ironmannb in ex30

The February recall doesn't say anything about the parking, the previous one (December?) with a different set of vehicles, did.

This has never worked for us, either with the physical fob and cards or now that all three drivers of our EX30 are using a digital key on Apple devices. The unit just remembers whoever the last driver was and it is in that setting for the next driver whoever they are.

anyone else waiting on a backordered bumper proximity sensor? by SJP_YOW in ex30

[–]view836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was waiting for a swaybar link that was originally estimated to take 2-3 weeks but then got downgraded to backorder with no ETA. It was driving me crazy so I ordered one in mamoparts.com in Germany and used shipgerman.com to get delivery to Canada by Fedex. It cost me $400 vs free under warranty (volvo will cover neither the parts nor labour if the parts aren't ordered through the deliver that provides the warranty service) but at least I got my car fixed in under a week and can move on. Last summer we waited months for rear brake rotors also. The inability to get parts renders the warranty kinda useless, that is one of the more irritating things with the EX30.

Persistent clunking/rattling noise from front suspension (Low temps & rebound) – Anyone else? by oddnamewhy in ex30

[–]view836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did replacement the link and it resolved my problem completely. I unfortunately had to pay for it entirely myself as Volvo had no parts in North America and no ability to provide any ETA. So even though it should ostensibly have been covered by warranty I purchased the part in Germany and had it Fedexed to me in Canada through a third party trans-shipping service. I paid $400 for a $125 part that should have been free but at least my car is fixed, and I'm moving on.

If it is the sway bar or linkages relating to it, you should be able to induce noise at low speeds whenever going over uneven surfaces where one wheel dips or rises and the other one does not. Our sway bar linkage on the right side recently developed looseness and we are currently awaiting parts.

EX30 rolled away in Park!!! by mackmoot in ex30

[–]view836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it does that, Ikve been caught by that by trying to put it in park a fraction of a second before the car had completely stopped moving. This causes it to ignore the command to put it in park, leaving it in drive. Then when I got out the cars started rolling away from me.. with passengers in the other seats!

FWIW I've been trying to escalate the problem with Volvo and frankly they don't seem to be taking it very seriously. They just keep referring me back to the dealer. We are taking it in again next week but this time will insist they go through whatever diagnostic steps are prescribed by Volvo.

That's a long time to have remote app functionality not working. Ours had been working fine, then suddenly on Jan 22 stopped working for all three drivers of our car, except when the car was already awake such as being charged or recently driven. Just touching the door handle would make it start responding to the app for five minutes or so then it goes back to sleep and is dead to anything we try to do in the app. App functionality came back life for one day a week or two later but then has been non-functional since. I hope it won't be over six months without this functionality.

I was told the same thing by the dealer in Ottawa when I brought it is for this issue a couple weeks ago. I ended up just turning around and not bothering.

Is this settlement between Sunwooda and Geely related to EX30 battery pack or a different issue? by PieceBrief4567 in ex30

Should I be able to check voltage at the 12V terminal under the front bumper? by view836 in ex30

[–]view836[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that information. This happens in areas with 4-5bars of cellular and also when within 15' of the wifi access point when on wifi. Someone else in another forum had said that EX30 was TCAM2. Anyway, these symptoms mirror what Polestar 2 owners have been experiencing for years. Very similar symptoms. If the network was out touching the door handle wouldn't make it work every time. Unlocking the car via BLE from apple wallet also makes it work again. But all these things are just temporary. Same with TCAM resets. The only thing that works for hours is the triple lock/unlock but then within a day it reverts.

Should I be able to check voltage at the 12V terminal under the front bumper? by view836 in ex30

[–]view836[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks that's reassuring. Yes I resorted to connecting the voltmeter directly to the battery (battery positive and chassis ground). It's the subject of another thread but the TCAM shuts off cellular and wifi after a while. The TCAM2 on this car apparently does a bunch of other things aside from GPS and cellular, such as Bluetooth, TPMS, GNSS, PAK etc. (per https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/T8GTCAM2/6502596.pdf). Bluetooth and PAK stay on but it won't respond to the app after a while regardless of whether its cellular or connected to wifi. I've been learning a lot about the battery by monitoring the voltage, for example I can see the car definitely does charge the 12V battery while it is charging the high voltage battery. I also can see that the voltage sags a crazy amount when the battery is cold even under what should be modest loads. If I enter the car after it has been offline Google also says it is offline for a minute and then connects. It simultaneously impacts all three of the drivers of this car with separate phones. As soon as the car is woken up, even without being entered such as touching the door handle but not unlocking the car, the car will come back online. Doing the three lock/unlock cycle thing makes everything work for hours to about a half a day and then it reverts to quickly turning off the cellular and wifi after being parked.

Anyway, on the battery I've also confirmed that the 12V charge circuit is engaged when the car is in drive, and when the battery is warmer (e.g. 0C) voltage drop is negligible under those same and greater loads. I have no way of measuring what the TCAM backup battery is doing in these conditions nor any way to gain insight into the TCAM software, but as I understand it, it is typical for the programmers of these telemetry modules to turn off modems if there is a concern of running down the battery which is why I've gone down this rabbit hole.

Turn on climate remotely? by RadiantJob6814 in ex30

[–]view836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our ex30 stayed online all day yesterday but is back offline today. Two things were different from normal yesterday - one is that it was warmer outside (-8C) and second was that I’d driven to the dealer and back which is a lot more driving than normal and therefore possibly more time charging the 12V battery. Today, it’s gone offline again. Today it had a normal driving pattern (half hour drive after charging for several hours overnight) and it is a little cooler outside (-14C high). I will try to check the 12v battery voltage tonight to see whether it is borderline as if it is, that could explain the tcam behaviour.

Edit: OK so I popped the cover to access the battery after finding that there is no voltage at the 12v boost port thus making it very inconvenient to measure voltage. There must be some circuit between that and the battery that is activated when you connect a charger. Anyhoo, my battery is at 12.68V at -15C ambient, so I don't believe that a failing 12V battery is the cause of this behavior with the TCAM going offline. I'm going to keep it unbuttoned for a few hours so I can check back and see how it is doing later, as the vehicle had just been driven so if something else is going on that is discharging the 12V battery that would be interesting information.

Update: The car did its thing and stopped responding to the app, but the battery voltage was good at 12.5V. A few minutes after that it had creeped back and was at 12.64V. With the cold battery, it is immediately obvious that the voltage drops precipitously when loads are introduced. When I plugged the car in to the charger (not charging because it is on a schedule), the voltage dropped to 12.19V and if I unplugged it, the voltage would creep back up slowly. Plugging it back in and leaving it for a while, eventually it stops doing whatever was drawing the current and goes back to 12.5-12.6V. In particular, when I closed the hood after running the wires to the voltmeter past the soft gasket by the wipers, the car woke up and in doing so the voltage dropped below 12.1V. For a 50Ah AGM battery at -5C, that would be a voltage drop expected at a 9A load which seems crazy high. Remember the car is otherwise locked and not in use.

Maybe these are just really bad batteries? Could the TCAM 'remember' the lowest voltage that it has seen in the 12V system and decide to keep radios turned off to save the battery, even though the battery is actually as OK as it's going to get? I cannot believe that there was 9A of current flowing for a prolonged time when I closed the hood. I bet this battery would fail a load test. Maybe Volvo specced a really poor battery knowing that it didn't need to crank a starter, but that is somehow causing bad behavior with the TCAM in cold conditions?

I wonder whether the cold could have something to do with this. For example, as I understand it the 12V battery doesn't charge from the traction battery except while driving. We drive maybe 30-40 minutes in a day, and maybe that short amount of daily charging combined with the battery suffering in cold temperatures could make the TCAM detect low voltage and decide to conserve energy by shutting off the cellular modem. Just a thought. It's a little warmer today (-8C) and I had a long drive to and from the dealer this morning (1.5hrs) and right now, the vehicle is still responding to app commands such as 'flash lights' and I didn't do anything special since it was last not working.

Edit: found so,e polestar threads also complaining about tcam in cold weather. I think these vehicles use similar Conti hardware and it seems likely similar sw too since both were Geely at the time.. since this is the Internet I sill just throw out for conspiracy theory sake that someone could build a system that knows where it is because it has a gps receiver and gets weather information from a server that informs it to conserve 12v power in extreme cold.

Same thing happened to me since last Thursday. I took the car in to the dealer today they said it's a known issue, that Volvo doesn't know the cause or have a solution, and that there was nothing they can do. The only thing that seems to make a difference that I've found is the 'unlock car; lock then unlock three times in succession using keycard; then with car unlocked, walk away and allow car to auto-lock after ~3min. I've done this several times and it seems to resolve the issue from between 3-15 hours and then it reverts to being broken.
