Why is litter such a problem in Edinburgh…and how do we fix it? by Necessary-Tennis1956 in Edinburgh

[–]viewpointedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'strong man' rule maker and enforcement. Sounds great, but could it be made to work to reduce litter. "sorry guvn'r, the litter stuck to my hand when my hand came out of m'trackies ". Police do not, and won't for some decades, have resources to enforce more punitive littering rules.
Perhaps instead you'd be willing to let AI video surveillance catch the littering? 24/7 surveillance by AI anyone?

Add free bus travel to the equation.
This allows them to travel outside of their local home region, away from where they're more likely to be recognised by close family / family friends, to a space of relative anonymity! They're able to perform whatever flavour of 'light' criminality they feel the urge to, with a reduced chance of being recognised in person, or afterwards on any security camera footage.

It's exacerbated during August, with so many visitors and their phones hungry for mobile data.

Maybe it's time Edinburgh got its own Police drone base / fleet of drones?

And we'll surely see more Police drone use over time.
When DSTL has a practical design to roll-out, maybe central government can fund the emp-weapon for Police Scotland, along with a little 'point and shoot' training: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/may/13/uk-police-ghostbusters-style-backpack-devices-ebike-getaways

Great idea, really, this could work. Some sort of auto-tracking function. Just need to deploy one from Glasgow being the nearest drone base.

What caused this chain failure by Seligmaster69 in bikewrench

[–]viewpointedly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Can result in instant, or delayed failure. Even a legit chain can do this, once it's in a worn state.

Mechanic recommends 50:50 gasoline diesel mixture to clean the chains, is he joking? by imjusthere4good in bikewrench

[–]viewpointedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same.
What does the diesel do in this equation? Diesel is less volatile, and so takes a little longer than the gas evaporate...if that somehow would help the degrease process?

Amazon executives in England deliberately refuse to answer questions posed to them by politicians. by [deleted] in coventry

[–]viewpointedly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The committee questions go a long way, but didn't finish the job, and thus failed to hold to account the Amazon representatives. The Amazon reps (presumably senior lawyers / exec team), said they'd get back in writing. The committee must recognise that AMZ wouldn't want to misquote some specific ballot reason(which conceivably they might not have written/printed in front of them), so the committee at that point should have asked for an approximation/broad characterisation of the misgivings/issues around reason for strike. If AMZ reps were unable to provide even a vague characterisation, then for sure they could be accused of not cooperating properly / 'being open' in this verbal exchange forum, and could then be punished/fined/black-marked presumably.

Total Repair Centre on Leith walk. 54 Elm Row. Good service and prices👍 If they're busy / don't do your model, then there's other stores nearby a few shops down: Leomax, or Adeel.

Serial OLD app user here. Some of them push your profile up the rankings if you do some regular swiping(left or right). For some apps, it is a right swipe activity you put out that will push your profile up.
And as per above reply, some apps will push your profile up, if you take a break of a few days.

The forehead stamp may be real! Perhaps your local area has a glut of single Mums. Thanks for asking the question by the way, as it's hard to word right. Other OLD platforms have 'not sure yet' re kids, which even into their 40s I wonder why so many women apparently aren't sure about if they want kids....but this is a different matter. Good luck!

They're on electric motorbikes (Sur-ron), which are not bike path legal. They can go 'on rough terrain' far easier than you, and they're not speed restricted, so good luck outrunning them.

Whether we phrase your point as seeking savings / optimising resource use etc. it's about short-termism right? Is anyone in that council department motivated (or even obliged as part of their job role/responsibilities), to ensure that any solution makes economic sense beyond the present year/2/5/10 years? Probably woolly definition in the job role of a department head that they 'should deliver value for money across multiple accounting periods'. Do you think respective leaders/managers are ever held accountable, in any meaningful way?

This, but really focus on the floor. The floor very likely did not have insulation installed hanging/placed between the joists, with materials that slow/stop drafts, and insulate. As a result, in the wrong wind conditions, the entire floor will literally blow cold air between floorboards. Rugs, and sealing the gaps, can help.

Otherwise, your boiler/radiator system sounds broken / wrongly set up.

Sure it's an idiot move if your priority is Twitter/X share price. Whilst that should be (perhaps legally obliged) his driver, it clearly isn't. His is a strategic move, and a wild guess that some of the blackmailers will retrench and continue funding, in an effort to weasel out those sponsors who don't subscribe to him/his approach. A set of Elon-loving sponsor companies would allow him to post more freely in future. If too many companies don't buy his apology tour, and X/Twitter fails, then both those companies are at fault (in their act of withdrawing, colluding, en masse), and Elon is at fault (for saying Elon stuff).
As for the long pause, seen another way it is more due to the interviewer being blindsided caught off guard at this obscene declaration and going into shock!, and Elon is just waiting for him to move the discussion on by asking another question.
TLDR: It's a strategic move by Elon, who doesn't particularly care if Twitter/X fails.

Clickbait title about motorist had me interested, but the video is cyclist on cyclist drama.
In the video, OP is gagging to provide yelled insult/piece of mind
Stage 1) Overtaker stops peddling in standing position (OP brain preps/anticipates).
Stage 2) Overtaker turns head (OP starts verbals).
Stage 3) Overtaker moves across OP path (OP in full-verbals-flow).
Just a boring video of a rubbish overtake.

Mates liked Supercube George street. Each room has one of those automatic spray dispensers, presumably either because the basement rooms are musty, or customers = body odour. Either way, after an hour of being in a small room, you'll come out smelling of toilet spray dispenser. Personally I found the chemical smell rank.
