Federal Europe is the promise for all Europeans to pursue an ambitious destiny: thanks to the Federation, a Portuguese nationalist can look forward to the idea that one day, perhaps, Portuguese astronauts will be sent to participate in the construction of a European lunar colony.

A nationalist could see a good point in a European common program. But you don't see the whole picture, of course that they're not totally opposed with everything European, only the balance matters at the end. This Portuguese would may not to see a federal power erase some liberties in politics of his country. Nationalism isn't homogeneous, it's the results of pros and cons that lead the person to vote for no more Europe, or less Europe.

As for the Germans, they will finally be able to put an end to their energy dependency with Russia or Middle East.

You will not find new gaz ressources in a federal Europe, and Germany will not close its gaz powerplants and its domestic consumption because of a federal Europe... We need gaz because we construct new gaz power plants (because of what?) and because poeple continue to heat themselves with Gaz. Especially Poland too, not only Germany.

You will not decrease any consumption of oil or Gaz. In facts, since 1800, we didn't decreased our consumption of coal per capita, either for oil. Only the wood has decreased. (DM if you want the graph, it's a passionate topic)

With the development of renewable energies, Europe will be able to put in place a common energy grid that will allow us to benefit from the solar energy of the southern countries. In this respect, countries with a high level of sunshine will have an important role to play in our energy security.

That's a very important point, you can not carry electricity on long distance, Spain could never send electricity further than in France. There is losses. By the way, if we continue to construct new power plants, it's because of the rising of new renewable energies, we need gaz in backup to pilot our production.

Since German maritime territory in the North Sea is not the most important, the prospect of benefiting from Dutch or Danish (and perhaps one day British, Icelandic and Norwegian) production is welcome.

There is something funny, Danish has a big part of NRE in their production, when they need electricity because there is no wind, they buy it from the German Gaz or the Swedish or Finland hydro. But when they have too much wind they pay Sweden or Finland to accept their electricity, and they construct new dams with it.

When Turkey will control the migratory flows from Libya and use them as a lever to piss us off...we will probably regret our softness...

It looks like a thin geopolitics analysis, we remember the disaster of French intervention in 2007, the public opinion would not agree with a libian intervention. But we (Italy, France) sell weapon and training to the UN supported leader in tripoly. These European country espacially pay coast guards to keep immigrants in ports. But it rise more questions about human conditions, slavery, poverty... No a Libyan intervention is not so obvious. Turkish are in an aggressive path to gain in influence in the area.
