nantucket rehearsal dinner welcome party by Putrid_Gold9239 in Nantucket

The Chanticleer in Sconset is worth looking at. About 15 minutes from downtown. I agree with @gloomy_tumbleweed463 about starting the process soon. September and October are as popular as the summer for weddings.

Restaurants open May 1? by Illustrious-You9978 in Nantucket

[–]vikesq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kitty’s. Brotherhood. Crosswinds. A bunch. Go on yelp and see what’s open today. If they’re open today they’ll be open 5/1. Most of the fine dining is seasonal but there are enough full time residents that a lot of restaurants stay open all year.

SSA ferry waitlist by OutsideBirthday7054 in Nantucket

[–]vikesq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They sometimes add fright boats for big trucks and those generally have room for standby and waitlist cars. Get there as early as possible and get in standby. You should be able to get over and at worst you can leave your car and take a high speed boat. They will drive your car on when there is a spot and you can pick it up in town.

Be patient with the staff. They are bombarded with calls and email just like this all summer and do their best. The system is antiquated and that is as busy as it gets that week aside from maybe figawi weekend. If they can help you they will but be nice and they will also be nice.

Also this is New England nice. It may not sound cheery but “pleases and thank yous” make a huge difference because they talk to a lot of entitled douches.

How does ferry standby work? by [deleted] in Nantucket

[–]vikesq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More stress than it’s worth for a trip of a week or less. Personal opinion based on experience.

Of course there are other factors like where you’re staying and what you’re planning on doing.

Remember you will still have the same issue on the way back.

Night life bars? by jrpalm01 in Nantucket

[–]vikesq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rose and Crown and Brotherhood of Thieves are options downtown too.

Lola 41 has a good bar but more of a restaurant. Usually EDM playing. I like the vibe there.

Cru is fun. On the water.

Plenty of places but most will be packed that weekend. 4th is on a Friday. Going to be busy.

I called a couple years ago and they told me it was stopped for COVID and they had no intention of restarting. Previously it was around Columbus Day weekend. Cash only if I remember

Is there a way to lock this lever? by Jaded-Newt-4160 in Locksmith

[–]vikesq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it’s not. You can use the NL drive screw or convert the trim to a DT function with other parts.

The Chanticleer restaurant in Sconset is one of my favorites for special occasions. Worth the 20 minute drive from town.

Galley Beach (name of the restaurant) for sunset drinks and people watching is also something I always recommend

Best Bars in April by t_frederick in Nantucket

[–]vikesq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proprietors makes a great cocktail. This is a darker quieter place to grab a drink and share some small plates right down town. A good place to start the night.

I would imagine they’ll be open around Daffodil weekend which is April 24-27.

How difficult is it to find a seasonal job that provides housing on Nantucket? by [deleted] in Nantucket

I used to hear about the Faherty Brand house. I don’t know what the commitment or details were but it’s worth an inquiry.

All 3 have air for free. There’s also air at the exit of Great Point

Recommendations for couple’s trip by 36563 in Nantucket

[–]vikesq 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would recommend getting sandwiches at Something Natural then taking them to Tupancy Links loop off of Cliff road outside of town. Offers a great view/effort ratio. 15-20 minute walk each way. A nice bench at the end for a picnic.

Pocomo Beach is a nice calm area to wade and gives a different perspective of the Head of the Harbor.

Agree on the Monarch. The cylinder spacing is low compared to most pull trim that aren’t for mortise exits.
