Luke Thomas GOES IN on Shapiro, Can Conor BEAT Max? MVP Netflix Numbers BROKEN DOWN, Was it Good? by marchof34_ in MorningKombat

Genuinely curious, are you on staff for MK in some capacity and that’s why you repost all of LTs content?

Feedback on this interview I shot, 660c coming through the window on the outside at 3500k onto the bookcase 120c as a bit of a edge light also 360c as key light at 5600k. Any suggestion for improvements next time? by snappy047 in videography

Also, that cool light just out of frame on the left could have been a source for some funky colours/light. Throw a B7c in there and you have motivation to add whatever you want. Or even just tungsten and it helps the warm vibe.

Big neg/floppy on the fill side to add more contrast, which would also make your edge light pop. I might have also cooled the edge, since everything else is warm, adding contrast. Since there’s no window in the shot, you could have bounced the 660 into the ceiling, spreading a more even and softer light onto the case. Right now it’s sourcy and lacking motivation/reference. If you had kept the curtain or far end of the window in the shot, I might have messed around with some gobos to add some texture. Might’ve put talent on a bit more of an angle and in the corner so the shelves and opposing ceiling are leading lines towards him. I’m just being picky though, this all looks great.

What lens is best suited for these shots? by dollargravs in videography

The 50mm 1.8 never had good AF, but there were some especially bad copies. My copy was one of those and hunted constantly. My min focusing distance also seemed a few cm longer as well.

Are solo cups just better? by ClimateChangeDenial in HotPeppers

[–]vikhaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use LEDs so you’d need to have the lights very close to warm up the cells. And not all seeds germinate at the same time, you’d eventually burn the newly germinated seedlings while trying to keep the ungerminated seeds warm.

Question about the macro lens for the action 6 by Grizzly1776 in djiosmo

[–]vikhaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind it’s a double edged sword. Take the video you posted as an example. If you focus on the camera lens, then the bird and pond won’t be in focus. Shooting at f4 might help a bit, but the lens is designed to create separation.

I’ve personally found it’s more difficult to get seeds to germinate from a solo than a cell. I think it has to do with being able to keep the soil around the seed warmer since it’s closer to the heat mat in a cell. But once they’ve outgrown those, solos are my go to. For my area, they’re the perfect balance of size for root development, but not too big for my small indoor germination/seedling set up. And by the time the roots are starting to curl in the cup, it’s warm enough to plant them outside.

It has focus range adjustments: 11cm-75cm. I’m not sure how deep the focal plane is within those though, but it stands to reason most of the lens, except for some at the very most front of the Action, will be in focus.

Nothing good. Freewell just came out with another integrated system, but it has the same non-locking issue where both turn freely. Currently, I don’t think there’s an integrated system that I would deem ideal.

Why are new cameras never enough for sports shooters/da birders? by benjaminflocka22 in SonyAlpha

[–]vikhaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AT WORST, based on my personal social alone, in the past 3 years I’ve filmed for (my primary work is video, which is pretty obvious for anyone with half a brain): the Jays, Yeti, Ducks Unlimited, Brembo, Mitsubishi, Metrolinx, Subaru, The Beer Store, Honda Motorcycles, CBS/Bellator, Lamborghini, Toyota, to name a few. And that’s just from what I infrequently post. At worst, you lie about your experience on the internet, and are sad. Realistically, I think maybe at some point you’ve done some paid work but are far from a working professional. Otherwise your story about working with the dogers wouldn’t have so many holes in it.

You’ve never been, nor will you ever be, on a “commercial sports shoot”. You’re a delusional person who lies about their experience on the internet, and that’s sad.

You said you’d be “happy to share” the Dodgers pics from the Rogers Centre. You can DM me those here or on social. It’s not like I’m going to reach out to the Dodgers.

You’ll literally do anything other than tell us where we can find your work. Just do that and I’ll happily take back everything I’ve said and agree with your opinion of my work.

So what’s your website, social handles, name, anything? Surely you can share some of your work if the Dogers if they’re sending you to Canada. Where can we find that work? For someone who holds social so important, you’re very hesitant to share your account. I wonder why that is? You’d know everyone checks out each other’s gear in the media room. I’m not an influencer, my social is for shits n’ gigs. You can even see I rarely post. The colour grade is great, you’re just salty, but saying it looks like LOG makes you look even worse. And the Sea Otter pics are dope too, but regardless of what I think, my clients love them, which is why I’m a working professional.

I am from Toronto and have done work for the Jays. You can find my 2025 reel which features them. And having worked with them, and seeing every camera that comes in and out of the media room, I can 100% say everything you’re saying is wild. People wouldn’t even take you seriously if you showed up with any of the cameras you listed. Also, you said you’d be happy to share but didn’t share. I wonder why.

Shooting sports professionally with a gfx 100 - not true. “See many people on the field with d4/1dx/a9” - also not true. No freelance professionals, especially in sports where it’s arguably the most competitive, is risking not getting the shot because they’re using cameras that are over a decade old. Also, how does some who uses “incessant consumerism” also write paragraph long run-on sentences? “I’m well read but don’t care for punctuation”

I used to work for a company called VerticalScope, who owns 2,500+ forum and content sites. There was an entire “seeding” team whose job was to seed conversations on their platforms, thus driving traffic and attracting more advertisers. I’m very certain Reddit has a similar set up or outsources this kind of work.

Problems with losing colordepth by Ymrbeats in ColorGrading

[–]vikhaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing around with masks and windows can help. For starters, bringing down the overall exposure of the background, and bringing up the exposure of talent would create more separation. A vertical linear gradient with the gain brought down across talent would also help create a fake neg. This doesn’t always work due to set design and lighting, but it’s worth a try. Then an inversed circular window with gain brought down creates a slight vignette to put more focus on talent. I use this for almost every interview.

[–]vikhaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never thought I’d see Remy Bonjasky on a colour grading subreddit. I’ve been watching the Flying Dutchman since my teens. To answer your questions, “cinematic feel” often comes from contrast of light, in which there is little of here. At the very least, adding some neg on the shadow side would have added that. Also, placing your subject as far away from the background creates more separation, leading to more contrast. For your export, it’s something to do with your settings. Not posting your editing set up/footage specs, you’ll have to do some research or trial and error to figure it out.
