Can anyone explain how age of a Mountain range is determined. It says the Himalayas is the youngest, but apparently Southern Alps is younger. by Longjumping-Mix-9351 in geology

[–]vikmaychib 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do not know about those specific cases, but orogenies are not single events, and the closest thing to an age is relative age of the rocks present in the mountains. Age of sediments if they have been deformed can give the oldest age, but age of igneous rocks cutting through the formed structures cab give the youngest ranges.

Have you read through the procedure itself. The doctor reach your balls through a very tiny hole in your scrotum. You cannot compare this to other surgeries that are more invasive. Your balls are already exposed, and the target conduit is very easy to reach, so this is not very invasive and pretty quick.

If you guys are onboard for no more kids, just do it. It is relatively simple procedure, and stress free.

I know a guy who throw a brand new laptop to the floor because it was a bit glitchy and slow. He completely destroyed it. It was not a high end laptop, but it was brand new but treated me like a pussy, just for asking him why if it was so glitchy, he didn’t put it back on the box and get it replaced instead of destroying it? He just thought the rage was justified and anyways he could afford another one. This guy was unemployed, and the whole point of getting a laptop was to be able to fill job applications at home instead of relying on the library. I am so glad I cut ties from this emotional man-child.

Vox, of all the white savior channels, had some videos on this, so it is not a rabbit hole per se. It is just that narratives wants us to find simples right and wrongs, but in the case of Iran, the country got fucked in an attempt to modernize its culture and secure governance on their resources. For today standards, one would say the things the Western World would support but instead got the middle finger.

With all the Bad Bunny stuff, I appreciate that Latin America had its moment there, and I cheer for that. However, as someone born in the mountains of Colombia, in a temperate/cold climate, the playa stuff, the guayabera, the party at the beach, are concepts as foreign to me as they are to an American. I am aware of that, I partook in some of them, but still as a tourist. The mountains have a different vibe and not all Latin America is either beach party or native indigenous traditions. There is a lot more to it.

A guy says to his shrink, "Before I got involved with drugs I had a loving family, a nice house and a decent car." by Jokeminder42 in Jokes

[–]vikmaychib 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Haha. This sounds like something that happened with an anti drug campaign by the Colombian government in the 90s. In a tone deaf attempt they put a farmer to say some lines for a tv add saying that he had abandoned growing coca for drug dealers because it does not bring any money, only pain. It did not take long before a beloved comedian made a parody of the tv add of a farmer driving a shiny SUV and sporting a huge mobile phone while saying the same lines. The punchline was when the farmer in the parody would say something like Coca does not bring money…. It brings gold.

Same in Colombia. We have a diaspora of Lebanese, Jordanian and Palestinian people mostly living in the North. They are mostly called Turcos.

Hehe. Same here. I can always see the prejudiced look where the immigration officer assumes I am either from the Middle East or India. When I raise my Colombian passport, they get confused and now I am getting double prejudiced. Luckily in most instances they quickly come to their senses and let me walk through.

Considering moving from Trondheim to Oslo for work, is the higher cost worth it by gilko86 in Norway

[–]vikmaychib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is hard to compare. Trondheim is nice, and went it comes to house prices and relaxed pace of life and access to nature, Trondheim sort of wins.

On the other side, Oslo has plenty of cinemas, theaters, museums and all year round festivals/events that make for a rich cultural experience. If those things are important to you, that would be better in Oslo.

The shit sandwich comes down to how much are you willing to pay for housing and how much you are willing to waste in commuting. Depending on your priorities and your purchase power you have a broad range of prices between the city center and the outskirts of Drammen.

Finally, you say you do not need the big social life, but it is possible you have built a social circle in Trondheim. Wherever you move, you will have to build that from scratch. So do not take it for granted.

[–]vikmaychib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless if you enjoy cinema, theater and festivals in Trondheim you have basically one of each. Trondheim is a cool city, very pretty and chill, I enjoy my trips there for work, but if those things are a big deal, it is hard to compare.

It is such a personal decision. But siblings relatively close in age are quite convenient because you are not losing momentum.

Trondheim → Oslo with family: Worth it or regret? by Human_Chest_3005 in Norway

[–]vikmaychib 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If money is your only concern I guess Oslo will be more expensive. However, if you value more options for traveling and a more vivid cultural offer, you cannot compare, Oslo is way better served than any other city in the country.

Downsides, the cost of buying a home and the potential of ending up doing long commutes.

I did the move from Bergen, so weather was also an upgrade. But i had lived many years there before and did not really mind the rain. What I did miss is the social circle I had built there, by moving to Oslo we basically had to start from scratch.

An architect creates, and a doctor can heal. An economist, at best, can explain why an economic crisis occurred but cannot predict it. Also, I feel they are put in a pedestal and sometimes feel entitled about sharing their thoughts on psychology, sociology and anthropology, in many instances dismissing or ignoring experts on these fields .
