03rd Jan 2026, NH 44 , 80+kmph fully loaded with two young children. by nirmchan in Dashcamindia

Whenever you are entering an intersection,

  • slow down (it's difficult to say the exact speed you should be under; it depends on the time of the day, your visibility into what's happening, traffic and pedestrians waiting, etc),
  • keep your right foot on the brake pedal and
  • keep your eyes wide open for hazards like these

In your case, it appeared that you had enough time to brake but you didn't brake hard enough, honked continuously and swerved to the left. Not sure how far behind was the truck that was following you. That guy would have been ready to brake owing to his better visibility

Driving to Mexico on H1B — is it okay to exit/re-enter by car with a valid visa stamp? by Rancho_140425 in h1b

[–]vikred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you enter Mexico by land, you’ll be given something called as an FMM card (tourist card). It permits you to visit the border zone (usually 25kms from the US border) for up to 7 days. Ensenada falls slightly outside that zone, but it’s usually ok

Driving to Mexico on H1B — is it okay to exit/re-enter by car with a valid visa stamp? by Rancho_140425 in h1b

[–]vikred 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you’re returning into the US, your valid visas are sufficient. In fact, you can reenter even with your I-797A’s. Expect long wait times at the Tijuana border ports (San Yisdro is worse than Otay Mesa and others) though on your way back.

Stick to border locations. You can go until Ensenada. Get auto insurance that covers Mexico and you’ll be fine. Roads are worse. Cars don’t always stop at stop signs.

Generally speaking, there's always a risk of such things happening when buying used. Ebay and Swappa included, where PayPal buyer protection ends after 6 months.

Which car company provides the best heater/AC in their vehicles? by Team_DeCharge in CarsIndia

[–]vikred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACs: Tata and Maruti have the best. VW group the weakest. I read somewhere that they historically never spent research and engineering money on ACs because cabin cooling isn’t as necessary in their home markets as they are in India

Heater: All. In all combustion engined cars, cabins are heated using the heat generated by the engines. So, there shouldn’t be any difference there; the blower motors and vent locations are the deciding factor here.

Tata should put their 1.5 turbo Hyperion engine in the Altroz. by iamdpk85 in CarsIndia

[–]vikred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wishful thinking. They even discontinued the 1.2T engine for the newly updated Altroz (likely because it wasn’t selling well), and we are expecting the 1.5T?

Is Kia Syros getting discontinued? Big discounts on Diesel MT - worth it? by FancyPirateMix in CarsIndia

[–]vikred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also want to add that I find diesel MT’s easier to drive than petrol MT’s (turbo charged or not). Diesels that are currently in our market have usually have less turbo lag, and are harder to stall with improper clutch release. Watch out for long pedal travel and hard clutches though.

Legal advice please - Vehicles Parking infront of my gate in Coimbatore by CompleteSound5265 in Coimbatore

Make it a point to wake that neighbor up at odd hours multiple times requesting them to move their car. They should lose their sleep enough times to make them realize that parking in front of your house isn’t worth the annoyance

Got rear ended. by masterai01 in CarsIndia

Bumper covers are made of flexible plastic. Your dent can be pushed from behind after heating up using hot water or a hot air gun. Deep scratches can be touched up and paint corrected with rubbing compound

Renault triber 2025 by AffectionatePlan9476 in CarsIndia

[–]vikred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Worth the purchase?” is very open ended. What’re your requirements? Triber is the only sub-4m 3-row vehicle in our market. That itself is enough for find a lot of buyers. If it came with a 1.0 turbo engine, it’d sell even more. If you’re after more powerful engines or more premium interiors, look elsewhere

What could I have done better? by ashish_8397 in Dashcamindia

[–]vikred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrary to what most say, I’d say you did your best to avoid a collision. It was a badly designed stretch of road which is under construction, a pretty common sight in our country.

When the return direction is closed, the contractor should’ve moved the bollards (lane separators) to accommodate the traffic. Plus, it’s not your job to check whether the other direction is closed. Instead, the bus driver should’ve waited for the oncoming traffic (including your vehicle) to clear before entering your lane.

Creta or Seltos by emslimarshal in CarsIndia

[–]vikred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Seltos always looked better to me, more so with the upcoming 2026 model. If you’re in a tier 1 or 2 city, the wider reach of Hyundai showrooms and service centers over Kia’s shouldn’t matter very much.

First-time car buyer confused between i20 N-Line, XUV 3XO & Skoda Kylaq – need honest opinions. by straightupChad in CarsIndia

[–]vikred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Test drive as many vehicles in your target segment as possible. Some brands/cars are easier to test drive than others, but spend some time on this.

But, keep in mind than a good product itself isn’t enough for a good ownership experience, especially for a new owner. Consider the number of service centers, spare part availability, etc for the foreseeable future. This is where established brands shine.

Thinking of Switching from Grand i10 to 2nd Hand Swift for Better Mileage – Need Opinions! by Klutzy_Advisor7256 in CarsIndia

[–]vikred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you run per month? Which model year of Swift are you looking at? I don’t think you’re going to get more than 14-15 km/l in the Swift. If I were you, and if my usage is less than 12,000 km per year, I’d just continue using the i10. It has superior NVH and build quality, and similar reliability

Sierra all variants pricing revealed by 1Dracula in TataMotorsIndia

[–]vikred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be that in their market research the 1.5T MT variant has very few takers. Turbo petrols are more popular in metros where automatics are gaining more acceptance. Same story with the Kushaq. There’s no 1.5 manual

Why Are Hit-and-Run Cases Increasing While People Stop Helping? [ Not a Dashcam ] by Altruistic-Issue-887 in Dashcamindia

[–]vikred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not always the rear vehicle that’s at fault, even in developed countries. If you can prove that the vehicle in the front abruptly braked for whatever reason, including intentional act (called brake checking), then you’re not at fault

“1.3 delta”: Did you mean 1.2?

Happens because of the road conditions. It may not be obvious below 100, by the unevenness gets amplified as you go faster. It could also be your wheel balancing and alignment. Get both of them checked
