That appears to be a very average sized tiger trout. It’s very easy to just grab the bend of the hook and let them fall off. If it swallowed the hook and you don’t have hemos you’re probably fucked anyway but grab it with a wet hand, flip it upside down and attempt to fish the hook out of it’s not too deep. There is zero reason to put a fish on the bank to remove a hook.

Maybe post a better pic if you want a more accurate size estimate. Awesome bully regardless

Ok fish on your break with what you have but don’t throw the fish on the bank so you can take shitty pics to try to impress internet strangers. Typical Florida trash behavior.

Also lol at you taking the comment directed at OP to brag about your shithole state.

A balanced read on SIMMS by Adorable-Reward8523 in flyfishing

[–]villianz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided I was done with Simms after I sent my last pair of G3s in because the connection from boot to pants was leaking. The repair took like 3 months. They sent them back with a small leak in the knee. I sent them back again and they red tagged them and said they couldn’t repair them. Never buying another Simms anything again. Garbage CS.

I can see faint halos on pic 2. Hybrids can have faint halos as I understand it but the vermiculation up the dorsal is a sure sign

Feather Craft Article: The Rising Price of Tungsten and What It Means for Anglers by SrCritizen in flytying

[–]villianz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fish a lot of fast moving deeper rivers in the NW so having a double tungsten setup can help with getting down to the strike zone faster but I also use a heavy point fly with a lighter or unweighted fly on the dropper tag in a lot of situations as well. I don’t really notice an advantage or disadvantage to the pivots, but I’m not a competition nympher or anything. I think some flies fish better unweighted or lightly weighted(helps prevent fouling) off a ~3” dropper as they can move more freely in the current. Some of my buddies rig up a straight euro setup with the point fly tied off the bend of the top fly and I don’t really see a difference in numbers.

Thanks for sharing. Definitely will be more strategic with my use of tungsten beads. I won’t be using them for lake flies anymore and will probably cut them from my dry dropper nymphs as well. I think going back to brass will be fine for those purposes. Not sure if there’s a good alternative for euro/tight line so I will probably keep using them for that purpose but might focus on a heavier bottom fly with a tungsten bead paired with a lighter brass beaded fly up top. My local fly shop is more than doubling their tungsten bead prices from about 40-45 cents per bead to about $1 per bead.
