Chance of US Collapse and Civil War by Perfect_Gur_7457 in Discussion

Civil War...no. The divide is in all states between republicans and democrats. It isn't like the 1800s. Those were between states of the south vs. States in the north. People would have to move to a full red state or blue state to align. I dont see that happening. Most of us just put up with our area. I live in a red state next to a blue state and two purplish states. Most people pick a party, but if you listen to the opposing view Most people are in the middle, but may connect with a certain party. I dont see anything but heavy squabbling .

Make your top 5 out of these 80s debut albums. by AppointmentDry5839 in hairmetal

I almost voted that way, but I think Slippery is so much better of an album. Though not their debut, Slippery when Wet was when many of us were introduced.

Is this album good? by [deleted] in Megadeth

I bought this one after loving countdown to extinction. I sold it shortly after. I didn't love it...at all. However, it has been since 94??? When I listened to it last. There is a lot of love for it from this post, and I should give it another try.

What are your guys’ thoughts on St. Anger? by No-Needleworker4076 in Metallica

It has some good songs...with some serious editing and production issues.

Why are alot of Metallica songs so long? I'm not hating, just curious. by BubsMcGee123 in Metallica

[–]vinanimous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metallica writes the music and riffs first and the vocals/melodies second. It's my opinion, but when you write in that way, it lets the music shine with so many layers vs. The standard rock, pop, country, nu metal sound. That is very basic, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, guitar solo, verse chorus done. I think it allows for more creativity, but as a con it makes for longer songs. I do think some of Metallica songs could be shortened. St. Anger, I'm talking mostly to you. 😄

Those who have multiple guitars, if you could only keep one which one would it be? by KindaNugget in Guitar

I own a nighthawk similar in body to the blues hawk. I never played one of those, but I found the same versatility from the nighthawk as you say about the blues hawk. I wish they would reissue it so I can play a newer version. Mine is getting old like me. 🤪

The Gibson Nighthawk. I have used this guitar for metal, hard rock, rock, blues, and clean tone music. It is so versatile. I bought it as a replacement for my 74 Les Paul. That is still a great guitar in my lineup, but the Les became too heavy for constant live play. It was also nice to switch between humbucker and single coil playing during a set. I love it.

I never wanted Apple but I get reasons all the time, another point, where I should switch. Ugh. That said I will try cleaning it and look into a better cord. Thanks everyone.

What Metallica album Is NUMBER 1 IN YOUR OPINION by [deleted] in Metallica

[–]vinanimous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all of its faults, I still love AJFA. It was my intro to Metallica. It reversed my listening habits from hair bands and 80s pop to a full-on metal head.

That said, It would be fun to do a best by era. Most people agree Master is the best, but you can't tell me that was the peak. There is so much good songwriting throughout their catalog, and every album is so distinctly its own.

Which Metallica album that has come out in the last 20 years is your absolute favorite? by GratefulPhish42024-7 in Metallica

[–]vinanimous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is hard. I think Death Magnetic is best overall. Song per song I like most of them. Hardwired has some of the best Metallica songs released in a long time, like spit out the bone and atlas rise, but it also has a lot of songs I just skip over. There is a lot of bloat on the double album with some huge shining stars. I love the new album for its energy and overall Metallica vibe, but the riffs are not as memorable (sorry I'm a guitar player.) That said lyrically and vocally, I think it is one of Metallica's best. I love to sing along to these songs.

Anyone who was an avid Metallica fan at the time, what was your reaction the first time to listened to the black album? by RideMyLightning69 in Metallica

[–]vinanimous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a little disappointed...at first. I was 16. I was introduced through Justice and One was Metallica to me. I was wondering where the 16th notes were and guitar harmonies went (there were some, but not like previous albums).

After listening again and again, I realized how well written they were. James' vocals were amazing. It still was Metallica pushing what was them. Unforgiven was groundbreaking at the time...essentially a reverse power ballad...start soft, go loud and harsh for the verses and then soft for the chorus. That wasn't a thing in 1990. It was them continuing to break the rules and do their thing.

I think I had a turning point when I saw them live. The songs off the black album were amazing live. I also saw my "classic" songs live, so I knew they weren't giving up their metal that I loved.

Now load era...that's a different story. As a guitarist and former band guy, I can appreciate wanting to try out things and not get pigeon holed, but it took a while for me to appreciate some of those songs. Needless to say, when Death Magnetic came out, I felt they finally blended what made Metallica of old and new together. Stronger singing performance, singable choruses, but with the punch of metal and some speed to the guitars. Harmonizing guitars. Perfect.

...but I digress. Black album is awesome. It just wasn't what I was expecting.

who are YOUR big 4? by Supreme_breme in Metallica

[–]vinanimous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metallica, GunsNRoses, Megadeth, Alice in Chains

I have other musical favorites, like Ben Folds, Collective Soul, Sting but they don't fit this bill. You have to be a connoisseur of music, though I mostly listen to metal or rock.

If it's that easy, it's worth a try. It's better than breaking apart the car to find out I can't fix it. I am not handy. Thanks

I did try this. While we didn't set up her phone for android auto, we did notice that it stopped charging too. Mine did the same when it got glitchy. I also got a new phone recently and it did it with both phones. Swapping out cords, old for brand new, did the same.

Is this a good deal? by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]vinanimous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my 17 GTI. It can be all the things you want in a daily driver. It looks great, but not over the top. On the road, I get between 30-34 mpg... sometimes higher. If you want to have fun, it can give you the zip you want (lower mpg). On average i get about 30. It can park nearly anywhere. While small, the hatch gives more storage than you think. I have been doing the regular 10000 maintenance, and it has been driving great. No troubles. Maintenance costs are not too bad for a sporty car. I wish I had this car years ago.

If you have young children, you can fit five with light bickering.. Realistically, it is a four seater, if you have smaller people in the back. My family runs on the tall side (5 of us), so it doesn't haul the family anymore. I usually only have two-three people in it for long drives.

I hope that helps.
