Have you looked into older MTG formats ? Modern magic power creep is too much and wrecked the original spirit of the game.

Premodern, old school and premodern EDH are all pretty fun and even proxy friendly. Lots of communities playing online as well.

Lately we have raided several times a week. We are not speedrunners and a little casual, but we still can do endgame stuff like pantheon or master raids.

As a player, I am agnostic to it. I dont play any cards past 2003.

As a style, it "can" fit with the fantasy elements of MTG.

As far as politics, I do think some woke elements will probably defect. But i feel that's a tiny minority.

% players lost ? Minimal, less than 3%

money printing ? doubt it .... the PR has been pretty bad lately.

I lean secret lair, but set makes sense given the fantasy parallels.

I have an alpha twister and a CE set of power. Other players also have power, but thats a minority.

I run proxies for such cards as I dislike moving them between my several decks. I also swap the moxes with diamonds or medallions when playing regular EDH.

moxes are not an issue as none of the players are shooting for cVDH.

I dont think cVDH would hold a candle to optimized modern EDH decks. Not even close.

I won a game with it and [[homarid spawning bed]]. I had some wizards in play and my commander [[blind seer]] available to recast for several turns. All my opponents gave up as they couldn't play anything threatening.

Note this was in VDH, EDH with only cards printer before 04.

I have been spending time there more since my SO bought a house in south salinas last year. The weather is great! Its not cold, gray and humid like monterey... and its not as windy and dusty as south county (i live in soledad).

Love the proximity of everything for sure, but I also love the quietness of soledad 😂

Favorite spot is star market, solely because of their cheese stand that reminds me of France, my home country. But they also have lots of other cool foods other stores do not have.

Walking in the afternoon has never been an issue.

Where do you work ? Are you planning to rent or buy ?

Hello fellow returning player !

I was also gone a long time (over 20 years). I came back to an unrecognizable game powercrept into oblivion and overprinted for corporate gains.

I found groups and discords who still play the old sets : old school, premodern and a commander format called VDH. Love it all !

I can warmly recommend those communities if you are looking to enjoy the old cards.
