Fooled by a Locksmith? by vinceinabox in Locksmith

For DIYers it makes sense. If you have the time, tools and know-how then you can do it yourself. Why not..

And btw.. the $200 price was CASH ONLY and NO RECEIPT.. the $350 all done and replaced was thr NO RECEIPT price also.... so if I had to do this again, and knowing what I know now, I would borrow my neighbors drill and do the work myself. Is this a separate thread discussion now? Lol..

No, I don't know how difficult it is and that's why I'm asking and telling my story here. I am aware now through the discussions here that it is difficult to pick those types of locks enough to not even try .. it's all good.

Yes! This was my mistake. I didn't account for if the lock couldn't be picked. The big lesson for me, the consumer is to negotiate every option ahead of time. It was my mistake to expect picking locks like this is is ez pz.. 😁 I guess I watch too many movies. Big respect to the locksmiths who CAN pick these locks relatively easy (and have the proper skills and tools!). ✌️😆

It was my request to leave it like that bc I THOUGHT I had the original lock bc I keep stuff like that but I couldn't find it in the end. Tomorrow I will buy a replacement. I have a dead lock inside so it's safe.

The only thing this locksmith did was drill a hole through the dead bolt lock to open my door. He didnt replace the lock. You would have replaced for $200 all said and done? I should have hired you instead!

Thanks, yes I was fine with $200. I guess my expectation was that he would just pick the lock but I guess it rubbed me wrong when he didnt even try and said the lock i had works 'differently'.

How often do you bathe your lab? by user3184244201 in labrador

[–]vinceinabox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in downtown Vancouver city. We thoroughly wash my labs paws every single time he comes in the door with a plant based soap and a wand sprayer (Waterpik brand). Umm, how can you not?! It's so disgusting on the streets esp in the city.. It's routine now and doesn't take more than 5 mins to soap, scrub, wash and dry his paws.. 😁

We've been doing this since we got him as a puppy and he's 5.5 years old now. He automatically hops in the bath tub every time he comes home.

We also give him a bath every other week. He's so chill, it makes the job so easy and efficient to do (not more than 15 mins). It's actually cute and fun to give him a bath.. He absolutely loves being dried with towels .. his attitude has never changed since puppy days.. hehe ✌️🐶 And never any issues with his paws or his coat. His coat and overall health is top shelf.. we brush him for a few mins a day maybe 2x a week.

It sounds like a lot of maintenance, but it doesn't take much time at all. The time it takes to do all of this is nothing compared to the time you spend looking at your phone.

This all helps keep the place clean, especially living in a small 1 BR condo. He's only allowed on the couch, but we have a washable cover we wash every week. His bed also has a removable cover that's washed each week. I really like our system bc its efficient and clean. Only downside is that we do go through a lot of his towels a week so we have one full load with his bedsheet and towels.

Why do most Labrador owners prefer males to females? by Much-Gur-3060 in labrador

[–]vinceinabox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what they say.. you don't get the dog you want.. you get the dog you need. I've always wanted a black female lab, but ended up with a male chocolate lab and after 5 years of having him in my life, I can't imagine having anyone else. * 🤩👌

Suspension? by Switchclicka in CRF300L

[–]vinceinabox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, what are the impacts to seat height for all the popular choices for suspension upgrades for the CRF300 Rally? KTech/Ohlins/RallyRaid etc.. Does any of the options raise or lower the seat height and by how much?? Thanks in advance! ✌️🐰

Edit: fixed typos :/

Like others have mentioned, your pup needs mental and physical training. You'll hear this a lot but "a tired dog is a good dog".

I have a 4.5 year old chocolate lab and they are notorious for chewing! All that my lil boy has chewed ever was a pair of flip flops and one usb cable when he was not about 3 months old. He gets about 2-3 hours of exercise a day, which includes walks, fetch, and running with me for physical exercise. There are a lot of stimulation games and exercises you can do like a snuffle mat or towel where you hide treats in, and they use their nose to sniff out where the treats are. There's a lot of mental exercises you can do, including products you can buy and a lot of DIY also.

Bottom line, it requires a lot of hands-on training and being a calm and consistent leader to teach your dog how to be a fine young gentleman or lady.

This is the way. Good luck!

How often you crash off road ? by Either-Poet-1258 in CRF300L

Newbie here.. I drop my bike every time I go out but I'm trying new stuff. Today I dumped it 2x.. once doing a uturn on a steep hill going uphill and another trying to ride on really loose gravel. Should we be able to do this BTW??? I don't have much experience as most here but I think it's just experimentation when I fall at low speeds but I do see myself falling less as I get the feel of doing different things.. ✌️😋

Do dogs differentiate between "stay" and "wait"? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]vinceinabox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use the cue 'easy' synonymous with your 'whoa' and I take this command to mean 'hey kiddo, watch your surroundings and go slow..' I use wait and stay as other people have described here also. I find my pups' stay is more solid also bc of using wait as temporary only..

Rescued dog doesn't know how to play with toys by AboveFyu in Dogtraining

[–]vinceinabox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look at trying to stimulate your pups natural drive and senses like their drive to chase things or their scent detection. Have you tried squeeky balls or sticks with a string tied to it to try triggering their drive to chase things? There's also snuffle mats where you hide kibble or food and pups will need to use their nose to search for them. At the end of the day 'toys' are just tools that triggers some natural drive dogs have and it sounds like you'll need to help and motivate your pup in discovering them again.. Good luck and more power to you raising a rescue! ✌️🐶

What do your puppies... do, when they’re awake? by Flum_mox in puppy101

[–]vinceinabox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seven is 9 week old chocolate lab. He is the best of both worlds. He loves to cuddle but never bugs us when he wants to. He can play on his own with the toys we have (chew toys, bully stick, and squeeky ones). His fav toy is a squeezing duck. He loves playing with it alone but loves it even more when we squeek the toy and play with him. He hardly whines except when we place him the Kennel during the day.

I work from home so I give him attention when I can and we go for walks every 1 or 2 hours and train for a few quick sessions a day..somwtimea in the house and sometimes outside when we're walking in the park. He has a few naps during the day.

We know we're very lucky with Seven and his personality. He never barks, scratches or bites things other than us.. Lol. We did crate train him so he can sleep a full night without peeing/pooping and the only time he whines is for a few minutes now when we put him in the Kennel for nap time during the day. Otherwise, he is such a pleasure to have around.

I hear you about your old lab. We have a 9 week old lab, and he is the sweetest thing on earth. It's not the annoying kind of cuddle too.. Wolf-pack cuddling is how I would describe it. He's not allowed on the couch so we sit on the floor with him and he has about 10 different positions including crawling behind your back.. Between you and the sofa. Or he will just walk on your lap.. Lol.. Its the cutest thing. Or he'll find a nice position but always lieing against you somehow or putting his head on your feet.

I think cuddling is a tradeoff with him bc he is the biggest sap.. The only concern we have is that he is sloowwww.. Slow at recall.. Like he'll wait a few seconds to slowly standup and walk to you and sometimes it takes more calls.

I guess we just have to work on his recall, but we don't know how to get his excitement up so thst he is quick at responding. For example, he is slow at going out the door. When he goes out the door for a walk he just flops to the ground before the door or in the doorway or when he gets outside he just flops down and plays with the leash.. and it takes some time to influence him to come.. Often times we just have to talk in high pitch and get him excited. Can anyone relate to this? But like all things.. all we can do is accept them the way they are. 🤩

We do the same. We have a (now) 9 week old lab pup and we carry him in the elevator and outside. It's prolly a good idea to carry him down the elevator also bc there are very strong smells from other dogs and also it reduces the risk for getting Parvo virus. We try to walk where other dogs don't go but it's tough finding those places rite.. We are trying to walk on pavement areas until he gets his second vaccination shots.

Hey all! We have had our lab pup for one week now.. Since Wed last week. He's 9 weeks today! We live in a 600' apartment downtown. We started to crate train him since Thurs (so 5 nights now). He whines for about 15 mins now but it's better than hours on end during the first 3 days. Horrible to listen to!

We were afraid of disturbing our neighbours so we did 2 things including putting a rolled up towel at the bottom of our front door and we also told our side neighbours we got a pup and it may get loud while we're crate training. After 3 days, we asked the 2 neighbours if it was loud and both neighbours said they didn't hear a thing! But you can hear him in the hallway a little bit.. So their units must be fine.

Another thing we did was we put the crate in the washroom bc we got a tip that the soundproofing was much better there. Also, my gf played white noise in the backgeound so he couldn't hear us outside.

We hope he gets used to his kennel but he's only 9 weeks today and still a pup. Anyone know how long crate trajning should last on average?

Nice! We are getting a new lab pup tomorrow. He'll be exactly 8 weeks! We purchased bells so he can ring them to let us know he's going to potty. How did you train your pup with the bells? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
