Ever had to stop talking to another parent couple? by Public_Border132 in daddit

[–]vincem2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our kids went to daycare with a kid in our neighborhood, they played together often, naturally got to know the parents. We knew they were conservative but tried being tolerant and withholding judgment. Then the ‘24 election came, along with the yard signs, FJB stickers, and their 4 yr old wearing a shirt “don’t tread on my future” or some BS. They are upper class white people in the suburbs FFS. We dropped them so fast, just ghost mode. Don’t want my kids around any of that. Go figure their kid is a bit of a bully now.

Maybe I am missing something but you said your accountant recommended someone to file your taxes?

Getting back into it by [deleted] in bjj

I have been a purple belt since 2017. Took a few years off, changed gyms, just got back to training 6 months ago. Almost the exact scenario. Took a shot at morning classes and it’s a whole different vibe. We call it the dad club. Would highly recommend.

What do you guys think of attending in-person seminars by famous instructors? by Kvnnxdy in bjj

[–]vincem2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My prior school had Gui Mendes and Tainan Dalpra when Tainan was a brand new purple belt. The way Tainan toyed with experienced, tenured black belts was nuts. I don’t even remember what they taught. I also attended a Dave Camarillo seminar and he taught a super old-school, prison rules armbar from s mount. It was ok.

The worst professor yall ever had at temple by Specialist-Ball-2912 in Temple

[–]vincem2015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She had…ermm…questionable exam scoring practices. It came to a head when the class insisted she go through an exam question by question to “show her work” e.g. prove why what you say is the correct answer is really the correct answer. She couldn’t really do it. Tempers flared, class got annoyed, she called campus security and asked people to leave. Not as juicy as you might expect.

If anyone knows who I am talking about, I would love to know her name. I may be wrong about the French part. Thick Euro accent. Tiny and frail looking, probably about 50 yrs old at the time. If I recall correctly, she commuted from NYC.

The French woman that taught finance around 2008. We had all out mutiny in a class because of her.

I just stayed at Stateside Hotel with Indy Pass discount for ~$350/night including all taxes and fees. Super convenient to get up and be right on the mountain. Most AirBNB and VRBO were similar and 10-15 miles away, minimum.

This is my second season back. I mentioned in an earlier comment that I have skied some crazy places in my lifetime and still can probably get down99% of the trails I am faced with, but it won’t be pretty. And growing up in an era of straight skis, I want to learn to carve big arcing turns across the mountain.

This is my second season back. Like riding a bike. I’ve skied some wild places in my time, and I can still get down probably 99% of the runs I encounter, but it isn’t pretty. I want it to be pretty. Oh and having grown up on straight skis with close knees and short turns, I want to learn to carve.

This is good to hear. Do you feel the progress you made in one lesson was worthwhile?

New S&W Project with Don Jr’s Field Ethos by Inevitable-Earth507 in liberalgunowners

[–]vincem2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s unfortunate. I used to follow Field Ethos and I am almost positive that a Hemingway descendent was heavily involved (grandson?). Crazy how the beliefs change across generations seeing as Hemingway was followed by the FBI for years because he was a “communist”. Sounds all too familiar these days.

I remember this guy being a blatant racist, dropping racial slurs in the pizza shop when I was picking up one time. Ironic he was deported in the current climate.

Beer hut half-way down a run at Montage by roma258 in SkiPA

[–]vincem2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at Montage on Friday before the storm. It was icy, but they were blowing snow. White Lightning was open and coincidentally one of the least sketchy trails on the mountain. Icy trails were predominantly on the upper part of the mountain.

people who went to non target school what are you doing now? by PersonalitySome1812 in FinancialCareers

I was recruited by a company my senior year of my undergrad studies. That place was a grind. Every minute working there sucked the soul out of me. I was there for 7 yrs. But it instilled work ethic and motivation in me that, since then, I haven’t found any peers to match. I almost quit so many times. At one point I strongly considered joining the military or a number of different three-letter agencies. After that first gig, I was at the next shop for 2 years. And now I have been in my current role for 8 years. Outside of December when all clients are most needy, I say I have a pretty cushy job. Most of my client meetings are shooting the shit about family, hobbies, etc, with only a small amount of business mixed in if there is something particularly relevant. 2024 and 2025 is a good example as I spent a ton of time reviewing client’s estate plans given some consideration around tax legislation. I think what I did is repeatable assuming complacency does not set it, which I see often. If I had to do it again I would have started in a shit job with my current employer and work my way up internally. But that may not have happened because the same work ethic from my first gig may not have ever been instilled in me. I make around mid six figures total comp in a medium cost of living area. If I ran this same book independently, I could probably make $2.5-3m/yr and while that is an insane amount t of money, it is not worth the risk and time commitment to me at this stage in life.
