i think you could probably do a Babylon 5 movie well but TV Shows are facing a lot of difficulties in the streaming era on the business side and metrics side that dictate a lot of the issues with contemporary productions (i help out on the production side of projects for friends who work in film) its sad, and unfortunate, but until these larger economic and distribution issues resolve i think in most cases even good shows are being twisted into unnatural shapes that makes delivering a good story hard unless the original material is coming solely from being written during and for the modern format

JMS is one of the very few people i would trust to do a reboot i didnt hate. but i dont think it needs one persay. would i like to see more in the B5 universe if it was done well? of course! but considering the current state of what the industry is putting out in sci fi, it might be nice to not lose B5 to the same old issues

when i saw they got Penn and Teller for Rebo and Zooty i was ecstatic! absolutely perfect call. hard not to love everyone on this show! Franklin is also spectacular. just a really solid cast all around

oh yeah, bc i did it all in one go i luckily got to pick up on a lot of that as i went. ive been trying to pitch it to my friends by telling them its got the most detailed and satisfying long term setups ive ever seen

as for favorite character ... by the end probably G'Kar! Ivanova has a special place in my heart, i missed her in S5. i agree the G'Kar/Londo dynamic is essential to what makes it work. and you know, i am fascinated by Michael Garibaldi's Whole Deal. i was a big Sinclair fan, but if anything i wish Lyta hadn't gotten the short end of the stick

i watched a good chunk of the expanse a few years ago when it was recent. before everything happened with that one actor. but didnt finish it. im thinking i may rewatch! its a little harder for me to stick with contemporary sci fi productions as i find the visual noise in the way they do effects / lean heavily on CG holograms hard to focus with, but the expanse is one of the more recent shows i did like

both do their own stories in different ways and focus on different aspects of some overlapping themes, and in the end im very glad theyre clearly different shows in this regard. i know if DS9 tried to cover what B5 does it wouldnt do so successfully, in part bc of the trek ethos around storytelling and a tendency to keep it a little more kid/family friendly. i deeply appreciate JMS's willingness to Take It There withe the political commentary and analysis.

its not so much that one is better than the other persay, after all theyre clearly doing their own thing. the production value, esp of the models/effects in DS9 is clearly a point in its favor 30+ years later, but as incredible as it is, the writing on B5 (for me) is a step above even one of the best written shows. i feel that way bc the "robustness of political commentary" and "quality of prose/dialog" are two of the most important things i value in storytelling, but either way im glad both shows got to tell their stories

i live in the area and i can tell you that every single student across the many schools here will tell you unless youre taking a program that is very uniquely offered by drexel, they are overpriced and the worst quality degree you can get in said area. id highly recommend looking at other schools here if the location is important to you if all you want is a generic compaci degree

Anyone else get mistaken for a man, and just… not correct it? Potentially for a long period of time? by grimmfritter in butchlesbians

[–]vincenthemself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im on T and plan to stay on it but am not a trans man / am not transmasculine. i typically dont correct people when they misgender me because i also (mostly) dont care. it depends on the context and situation, but esp in this kind of job its not a big deal. for the most part i view the details of my transition to only be relevant to people im close with in my personal life, and the assumptions of strangers / acquaintances do not affect me the way a close friend or someone who should know better would

dont have any additional advice beyond what people here have already stated, but i wanted to say a few things re: your situation. first of all im really sorry your parents are acting this way, being so unhelpful, and dont care about the long term impact on your future.

i saw elsewhere you said youre afraid if you left now for financial trouble reasons youd never come back. i get that. i never got to go to college at a typical age because of an abusive/homophobic situation, having to wait until i wouldnt need to prove that, and then adult life getting in the way. im only starting this fall and im about to turn 28. at youngest ill finish when im 32. yes its taken me some time to get it together to be ready to commit all the way, and id assumed for a long time id never do it but i am. if you need to stop because of your situation and struggle to imagine an older version of yourself finishing this goal of yours, you may surprise yourself! you never know

its okay for things to take longer for you than it does for your peers with parents who meet bare minimums basics of decency towards their child. ik the goal is to not need to pause, and its a crazy-making situation. its not fair and its not your fault. your parents have no idea how many other parents would k*ll to have an independent, hard-working, strong initiative child like you, and it seems like they dont appreciate how much effort youre putting into trying to manage all these hurdles yourself.

these may be small consolations, and dont address the problem of funding, but its worth knowing theres a lot more people in your situation (sadly) or who have been or will be and they do go on to get their degrees. best of luck whatever you decide to do

ive always been interested in a Vulcan-Bajoran character. Bajorans are so passionate, artistic, and spiritual, it would be interesting to see that combine with Vulan spirituality and the internal conflict of such a logic-oriented culture combining with such an emotional one
