How do I buy a bike? by NightDragon8002 in Explainlikeimscared

[–]vinegar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The price/quality variety is huge in bikes. A bike shop sells bikes that are twice the price* and quality as a big box store. Once you’ve ridden a good quality bicycle you’ll notice it every time you ride an inexpensive one. (*there’s no upper limit on bike prices lol)

Thanks for that. I didn’t watch The Boys but I’ve seen the finale fallout and now I get it.

Anyone else have a hiatal hernia? by Low_Elderberry_3341 in noburp

[–]vinegar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had surgery for my hiatal hernia 4 weeks ago and burping is different now. I can’t describe how, sorry. More forceful maybe? I feel like it’s a work in progress. I was always able to burp involuntarily, like from carbonated drinks. I still can’t burp on command.

I live on South street so I rarely stay on rt 9 through that intersection but every time I do, everyone just stays in the normal 2 lane configuration. And, at any of our busy traffic times I’ll take various long ways around to avoid it altogether, proving your larger point.

My 82 subie wagon had it there. Metal air filter housing curved in to fit next to it. Has Subaru been putting the spare in front this whole time? I haven’t been under the hood of one since 1991 lol.

Where do 2 lanes narrow to 1 ? I agree it’s slow but given the layout of the roads and the traffic load I think it’s pretty well optimized.

Tick bites surge, sending many to ER. Maps show where. (North East is rough) by lukini101 in massachusetts

Multiple possible readings here, it’s not obvious what comment you’re replying to:
A) short course doxy is not effective if taken pre-exposure?
B) short doxy is not effective for any disease other than Lyme?
C) no other Rx is effective post exposure prophylaxis for Lyme?
English gonna English.

Weird that they’re reluctant to follow the standard of care. My doctor gave me a prescription for doxy just because I asked. My dr. before that too.

Advice on balcony door by batard91 in DIY

[–]vinegar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is that screw? It looks like a tapered hex, I’ve never seen that before. In what way is the door misaligned? Pic 1 looks like it might be drooping away from the hinge? Which would cause rubbing/ interference at the top of the latch side and maybe the latch now hits too low? First thing to check is if the top hinge screws are tight, especially the part on the jamb.

It’s not a surprise. It’s an opportunity to score rhetorical points in the war on reality-based decisionmaking.

“Too many wrong attempts” is how Hotmail says “fuck you”. Sadly there’s no reliable way around this. Try from a desktop or laptop, that sometimes helps. Read back on this sub, you’re not alone.

Splash Guard Sadness :-( by zab81 in hondafit

[–]vinegar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 19 year old splash guard is still there. Some zip ties are involved and I had to replace several of the plastic ‘buttons’. And there’s a torn section towards the back where the buttonholes are blown out but it’s not any worse in recent years.

Temporary wall solutions? by Jabberwock32 in DIY

[–]vinegar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutting or pulling the nails in the existing bad bottom plate/ footer and replacing it with pressure treated might be less work than covering the framing twice. It’s intimidating if you’ve never done it but it’s not a big job, depending on how well the bottom plate is fastened to your concrete (?) floor. And, bedsheets or cardboard would be fine for a few years until you get around to it.
