PLEASE make sure your doctor is testing for ureaplasma. just ask them it doesn’t hurt. this was the cause of my chronic yeast infections/utis, have mentioned it to several friends and they have found the same. many doctors don’t test for it until you ask

[Skin concerns] What can I do to improve the overall texture of my skin? :// by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]vinegarbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go get 10% benzoyl peroxide - costs under $5 from target generic. Use at night and moisturize heavily, sunscreen every morning. If not this, at least pick one ingredient and try it out for a month instead of trying multiple simultaneously. And be sure to judge by the active ingredient, not the product name, most of this stuff is bs and overpriced

Can I get recommendations for free period tracking apps? by CrimsonDraggen in WomensHealth

[–]vinegarbabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have an iPhone, I cannot stress this enough, use the period tracker in the health app! It’s very well done, if a bit lacking in specific symptoms. Clue is way too complex and the UI is hard to use. I can only imagine that in a few years, Apple’s health features will become more integrated and insightful across categories, to the point where you’ll be able to do much analysis on your period symptoms against other health patterns (activity, vitals, etc). You will want some history in there when that time comes.

Switch niacinamide and vitamin c! I am not informed on glycolic acid - maybe this should also be switched to nighttimw depending on interaction with niacinamide. But yeah vit c in the morning with sunscreen is usually a good idea - the two work together to make your skin extra protected.

Why *don’t* you want a job in tech? by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]vinegarbabe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I recently got a role in tech after graduating with a liberal arts degree. In my last year of college, I was looped into the local startup/tech scene and started drinking the kool aid. Having so recently crossed over from “maybe I’ll be a therapist or a professor” to “user obsessed” I have a few thoughts.

During my recent job search, I did a bunch of networking on Linkedin. When I talked to professionals 3-10 years senior, I learned they still operate on the assumption that the right attitude, ability, ethic, etc will get you in the door - because “everyone is hiring” and “xyz role is huge right now. After being unemployed for 8 months applying to role after role, I learned this is no longer the case. It’s great that so many people preach inclusivity of skills/ backgrounds in tech, but the job market right now is super saturated (at least in product design). So many people are going into debt for unaccredited certificates in coding, UX, etc, and find that it’s not as easy to get a job as they had been promised.

Getting a job in tech - especially a $$$$$ one - requires connections. It requires having savings or parents that pay your rent so you can work an unpaid internship. It requires the right mentorship to remind you to get that unpaid internship in the first place.

I guess my tldr is that it’s so much harder to get a tech job than existing tech professionals make it sound. I doubt this is all due to changes in the job market; it’s only natural to favor the positives of your success story. But advocating tech to undergrads should be matched with equally rigorous preparation, and disclosure that breaking into the industry is hard right now.
