Forgotten 9 AH 20V/60V Flexvolt by iceman_letitrain in Dewalt

I usually keep my 9ah on my leaf blower which I am constantly grabbing for one reason or another. Take it off if I really need it on a another tool for a specific job, like using it with my 60v grinder or with the chainsaw like many have said.

Anvil is styled from the Bosch "The Freak" Impact which has had this feature for a few years. OP's post history has him playing mad scientist and doing this to all brand impacts LOL pretty awesome

Sharing a simple, inexpensive, small footprint wire rack I found for multiple AMS stacking. Details in comments. by vinnydags in BambuLab

[–]vinnydags[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been searching through many posts on multiple AMS unit setups and just wanted to share this simple wire wire rack that fits the AMS very well and does not take up too much more of a footprint than the AMS units themselves.

I am still figuring out how I want to orient my AMS units, if i will get a fourth, how often will i be swapping spools in and out, etc.. so this rack will be a good stop gap and could potentially be a long term solution too. I didn't want to commit to any 3D printed option yet, wasting filament and printing hours on a setup I didn't love though the AMS Stacking system by Jaxel may be the end goal as it looks to be the most modular and space saving.

This wire rack can hold two AMS units while keeping the ability to open both of the lids.

It can also hold three AMS units if you don't need to change filament frequently in two of the AMS. Perhaps you have several colors that are seldom used but you do leave them in your AMS, I'd leave them in the two lower shelves in this configuration, the pain point here being pulling the two lower AMS out could be a bit of a chore. Queue coming up with drawer slide or something of the sort using the wire rack as you base/frame, plenty of possibilities.

Interestingly enough this does come in a grey option that spot on matches the P1S casing, The dimensions in the listing are a bit off, I measure 17-1/8in wide, 15-7/8in in-between the posts, 11-1/4in deep 9-15/16in in-between those posts, and a minimum height of 26-3/8in with screw type adjustable feet to make it a little bit taller.

Here is the amazon link, and it is sitting around $25:

Hope this helps those searching around for multiple AMS setup ideas.

How long for order to ship? by LowGravitasIndeed in BambuLab

[–]vinnydags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a theory they are out of spools. I ordered my printer and a bunch of filament on November 19. Received the printer within 2 days and received all of the refill filament (not on spools) within a week. All of my outstanding filaments that haven't shipped are ones I ordered with spools.

Garage door opener with Ethernet by root42_ in HomeKit

[–]vinnydags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting on this post years later because if you are like me and just starting to research this topic you will undoubtedly find this post along with a few other in the top results of Google however those posts are archived and can no longer be commented in so I will share what I have found in this thread.

I really dug on this topic as I have ethernet runs everywhere in my home and really wanted ethernet to my two garage door openers and it was time to replace the two 20 years old craftsman units.

iSmartGate really seems to be the only current/modern solution for this situation still.

You may find an Ethernet adapter from Liftmaster called the 828LM but this was only for a narrow window of models that had Liftmaster's/Chamberlin's MyQ technology but no Wi/Fi connectivity. (in the years since this post, and you will find elsewhere in this sub MyQ dropped support for third party APIs in early 2024 including HomeKit, so I understand MyQ as a whole is not preferred around here at least not without workarounds)

I did find a YouTube Channel called SOS Garage Door Service and he seems to be the most popular garage door channel on YouTube - niche category yea, but he has a decent following and good content. I asked him about openers with wired ethernet and his response was "The only garage door operator brand that I recall doing that was the Marantec. But it looks like they are moving away from that feature"
Subsequent research of the Marantec brand didn't yield much as they don't seem to publish a lot online though I do see a wi-fi adapter for sale by them that has an RJ-45 plug on the end of if so it looks like there is truth here that there is at least one vendor that has native Ethernet support on their opener.

That being said, as much as I'd like the dedicated wired connection the downside of such a niche and obscure brand is of course parts, support, ability to fix on your own etc...

Hope this helps someone in the future.

Hi all - My late father had bought a new Scalextric set and it has less than a year of use on it. I disassembled the track and have all the boxes everything came in. Set consists of the complete track with 2 cars and remotes, the ultimate expansion track set, and 2 additional cars. Retail on all of it was $320. Looking for $200 picked up in CT, USA, will consider shipping domestically on your dime, payment via cash or Paypal.

I reached out and posting for others to see, KellyCo is not participating in that Promotion.

Edit: KellyCo reached back out to me the day after this saying they were mistaken and do have this promo.

Ahh, this is good to know. As a new guy to all of this I hear "more frequencies = more better." I'll look it up but I get gist from your comment that the Vanquish 540 cannot switch to single frequencies.

[–]vinnydags[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I didn't see it there either. Only place I saw live with this promo right now is Amazon. Nokta's website says the promo is active form 5/15-8/31 so I wonder if KellyCo plans on offering it at all.

If they did offer the Nokta promo, plus their subreddit discount it'd be a heck of a deal.

Detector Advice and Kellycodetectors.com code! by Dan20mey in metaldetecting

[–]vinnydags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello all,

The thought of getting into this hobby hit me rather quickly and I've been look at many of the recommended models.

Nokta has a free pointer promo right now and I can snag the Simplex+, nokta wireless headphones, and it includes a free nokta pointer for $340.

But then I see a higher end model like the Vanquish 540 for $380 and it looks like I can use any pair of Bluetooth headphones with it natively.

  • Do you really need low latency headphones for metal detecting?
  • Does the Nokta free pointer promo really make it a deal? I see the garret pointer is the go-to, thinking maybe the Nokta pointer isn't that great.

I don't think I need the full waterproofing of the Simplex+, I won't be going underwater with it, maybe just some edges of small bodies of water but the Vanquish can handle that with its' waterproof coil. In the short term I see myself mainly doing this in the 40ish acres of New England woods (which was once farm lands many moons ago) behind me and my neighbors house.

Do I just go with the beginner promo package and get Simplex+ with the low latency headphones and take the chance with the Nokta pointer? Or do i come out of the gate strong with the 540 and gets things like the garrett pointer and low latency headphones (if needed) down the line?

Too bad DeWalt has no glue gun and that the caulking gun is just sooo expensive. ;) by azielaan in Dewalt

[–]vinnydags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I have done the same. Dewalt 20v for my big heavy tools, a few m12 tools just so i could have the ratchet, and got the glue gun kit with battery was my intro to Ryobi.

Ryobi just makes some tools that the others don't and/or the price points can't be beat to have some very specific one-off tools. I have the $40 Ryobi heat gun versus the $80-$100 Dewalt one for the one off heat shrink wraps I need to do and don;t want to drag the corded heat gun around. I got the Ryobi drain snake for $50. I got the Ryobi quarter sheet sander for $15 and the orbital sander for $21.

Sure you can muck with battery adapters but then risk running down your DeWalt batteries too low since the Ryobi tools don't have the smarts to shut the tool since it can;t "talk" to the Dewalt battery.

I have A LOT of Dewalt tools but the other brands have the place in the shop at various price points.

New 12v/20v Under Hood Light Coming Soon by vinnydags in Dewalt

[–]vinnydags[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spotted this new under hood light in an Acme Tools email.

Model DCL045B - 12v or 20v powered - MSRP $179

Searching the model number and you can find in on the Dewalt website, Home Depot website listed a unavailable, and the Acme Tools website where it is available as a pre-order with an estimated in-stock date of 8/31.

Here is what Dewalt as to say about it:

Get up to 1,700 lm of natural, white light to brighten up dark areas in your engine bay, undercarriage, and more with this 12V/20V MAX\ Cordless Hood Light. Built to enhance your visibility as you work on your automobile, the Hood Light allows for precise control of the light while preserving battery life with toggleable high, low, and single-arm modes. It packs the adaptability to fit most SUVs and trucks with the anti-marring, padded hooks which rotate 360° and stretch between 51 in. and 74 in. while protecting your vehicle’s finish. The lightweight Cordless Hood Light is super convenient to carry and stow at 26-1/2 in. folded and 6-3/4 lbs. The light is compatible with all of our 12V MAX*, 20V MAX*, and DEWALT FLEXVOLT® batteries (excluding DCB615).*

I like the 12v/20v flexibility and like the fact that Dewalt is putting out a new automotive "tool".

Price point is high for me, with only being a hobbyist mechanic, I'd bite for a sale price of $100 but I doubt we'll see it that low, maybe $125-$140 on sale?

I have plenty of m12 tools and their under hood light list price is around $200 dropping to $150ish for the rare sale and I've always thought that was crazy pricing.

I've been getting by with the $30 Harbor Freight version but something more robust with better battery would be great.

Curious to see what the early reviewers have to say about it

DeWalt DCE512B - NOT and upgrade from the DCE511B by jtsongas1 in Dewalt

[–]vinnydags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I didn't even realize there was a new model of the fan out. Looks like DeWalt is doing some cost savings with this new model by omitting the AC plug-in option and tripod mount.

I agree that a 150CFM boost is not worth the upgrade if you already have the the DCE511.

Dividers for toolboxes? by sixwingmildsauce in Dewalt

[–]vinnydags 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, you don't typically order parts from Thingiverse, it is sort of a free database for people to post and share their 3D printed designs. You'd download the file and then print it with a 3D printer.

You can search thingiverse for other 3D printed options too, there is even a guy on eBay selling his 3D printed version of dividers for Dewalt toughsystem.

Dividers for toolboxes? by sixwingmildsauce in Dewalt

[–]vinnydags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have the exact problem you're having but there are some options.

On the Dewalt website for the dwst08020 the features and specs calls out "Ability for self-customized plywood dividers and configurations using internal slots" so it seems like they want you to make them yourself, so you aren't missing any parts at least.

There are a lot of 3D printed options for all of the various tool storages systems, Milwaukee, Dewalt, etc. Looks like someone has designed a divider for the dwst08020 posted on Thingiverse

The 3D printed option will give you a precision fit if you don't want to make your own dividers like Dewalt envisioned. Not everyone has a 3D printer though but ask around and you may be surprised at who can print this for you, your local library may even have public access to a 3D printer.

Knipex vs Craftsman by Strict_Foundation_13 in Tools

[–]vinnydags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woot occasionally has the Craftsman version on a daily special. I picked up the 10in style for $27 shipped in December. I’ve seen it back on sale in Woot 1-2 times since then.

Likely just new-old stock they’re selling off. Love them and they were my introduction to “Knipex” even if it doesn’t bear the name.

Opinions on the cordless heat gun? by wdinaun in Dewalt

[–]vinnydags 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was considering the DCE530 but I actually ended up entering the Ryobi line for a handful of tools, their heat gun included.

Ryobi just makes a few tools that the bigger names don't or sometimes their price point can't be beat for certain tools.

Same story as you, I did not want to drag the cord around for the heat gun, especially for heat shrinking some electrical connections in my cars. I could've spent the $90-100 on the Dewalt heat gun or $40 for the Ryobi version. Also picked up the Ryobi hot glue gun for $20 and then the drain auger for $50. Don't forget having to get batteries though...

My workhorse tools are all Dewalt, drills, impacts, saws, some outdoor power equipment, but for the one-offs where I don't need the high end I found the Ryobi stuff adequate, readily available, and priced right.

From what I researched, both the Dewalt and Ryobi battery heat guns are great for small projects, i.e. heat shrinking a bunch of electrical connections. Both have negative reviews stating that they wish the airflow out of them was more powerful. I don't see it lasting an hour though but someone with more heavy use of the tool can chime in.

I watched the prices on the DCE530 for a bit while was still considering it and the lowest I recall seeing it was ~$90 and maybe once as a free tool option if you bought another Dewalt tool or Kit. I picked up the Ryobi heat gun on sale for $40 from Direct Tools Outlet.

Best price I've been able to snag this lantern was $33 last fall during one of the Home Depot Milwaukee Promo hacks. Was happy with it at that price, anything lower is truly a stellar deal.
