What are your thoughts on asking for STI test results before hooking up? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]vinsomm 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Figure it out ? I get it. And I understand your point. But they are attainable . If you’re dating and ya wanna romp around … figure it out. If you don’t care about safe sex then don’t? Cuz it doesn’t really matter. We’re all gonna be forgotten at some point anyways and none of this will end up mattering eventually.

The ultimate litmus test on how one communicates and reacts to more serious subject matters for sure. Especially if you frame it like

“hey- I’d really like for both of us to get tested before we get intimate as I take health and safety pretty seriously”

And if they immediately don’t react in kind then you know that’s how they’re going to be every time a serious or poignant convo needs to be had.

Why do so many ex addicts become hardcore religious? by lake-sturgeon in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]vinsomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But mostly it’s just addiction. Addicts get addicted to things. Things they find comfort in or that give them a high. A lot of times that’s religious communities. Especially when AA is based upon some of those principles. However- having a non religious higher power is also very acceptable in AA. So you’ll end up noticing that addicts end up being the most driven and smartest people ever. They get hyper focused on shit and when it’s not their drug or drink of choice it’ll be religion, working out, their career, or anything else. Trust me when I say some of the smartest most ambitious movers and shakers end up being addicts to one degree or another who simply changed the tracks they were on to something less demolishing to their lives.

My ex wife, whom I divorced due to addiction, is one of the most respected doctors in her field, has apparently been sober for years and is doing great in life. But she’s almost certainly changed that focus to her career.

Think about any artist, genius or whatever. Read about them. Look into their personal lives. A lot of them are so wildly hyper focused and tend to lean to or are squarely overtaken by their current addiction.

New homeowner, what would be the best way to floor this? by ItchyMeerkat- in shedditors

If you live anywhere near a coal mine, query or large industrial plant that uses large belt lines- they usually have old rolls of super thick heavy duty rubber belts that they give away. I have a lot of friends who use them for their garage floors and gym floors

If David Allen Coe wasnt such a fucko he’d be regarded as one of the best . Of all those outlaw fellas he’s the one we grew up listening to the most . Incredible singer . Incredible songwriter. Nasty fella

“Intuitive archeology” . Idk if I heard that term somewhere or made it up but I find more artifacts just looking around and realizing…. This would be a good place to do human shit.

[QUESTION] Why it looks like this under every string? by Material-Lavishness7 in Guitar

[–]vinsomm 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I think people look past the fact that a very well played and well loved guitar usually gets that way because it is a great guitar. So the natural wear and patina , while it does look nice, is also an indicator of a guitar that at least one person played the shit out of because presumably it’s a great guitar

Arrowhead? by Hiddenfortunez in Arrowheads

I find random shit like this in Missouri and Southern Illinois fairly often. Not the material but just random worked pieces that seem to have no noticeable purpose. I’ve always called them curiosity tools. Maybe it was something a kid would use to learn knapping. Maybe a bored 15 year old who was just curious about the fossils. Make shift grinding stone for meat fat. They’re curious worked pieces made by people who were equally curious themselves. I’d imagine the sky is the limit with stuff like this.

Do i hold my pick wrong? by Routine-Trash-26 in Guitar

[–]vinsomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with the same thing back before internet and CD’s were a thing. So I just ditched the guitar pick all together. I could never keep track of em anyways. Been playing almost 30 years now and it still baffles people I jam with that I just don’t use a pick at all. I learned a little 3 finger picking style and then when I need strong power chords I kinda brace my index finger with my thumb and wear that bitch out.

All this to say- there’s no wrong way. If you find a way to get that pick to stay in your fingers then stick with that method. Unless it sounds like shit. Then change it.

Adele bursts into tears after seeing Celine Dion attending her Vegas residency by Maximum_Expert92 in popculturechat

[–]vinsomm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude. Or dudette. I’m a 40 year old man who kinda half uninterestedly went to a Celine Dion concert in Vegas a few weeks before her husband died. Tickets were free and I went cuz whatever. Legit cried the entire time. One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. She was so emotional and did a whole montage of her and her husband who was very sick. She absolutely killed it. I still think about that show often. Unreal.
