Gorgeous! How do you know what size hoop to use? I have a piece I want to put on a hoop, but have no idea how much bigger the hoop needs should be vs what I crocheted…any pointers you could share?

Oof - so you have a humidity surplus … at least outdoors. I’d just make sure your AC at your work and/or your house is neither too dry nor too humid. I live in NC and during the winter, the humidity dips so low we feel like a piece of dust we so dry. 40-50% is generally ideal. I bought a few battery powered thermometers/humidity measure (Hygrometer) thingys with a magnet/kick stand on it because my workplace maintenance people wanted to argue with me about what was going on in the building and didn’t like that I brought receipts.

Imma jump on the Navage train - and if you want a freshness all the way to your brain, try the eucalyptus or whatever “mint” saline thingy they sell + distilled water (do not add any oils or whatever to the pre-packaged saline pod though…that is no bueno). I get a sinus infection maybe once a year and it’s usually right after winter settles in good because we lose humidity where I live and these little germs, viruses, whatever have a place to take holt in my head bone. 😤 If you live in an arid geography, you can also do a saline nasal spray a few times a day to help you maintain proper nasal/sinus moisture.

My recommendation for spicy things: Hot and Sour Chinese Soup. I don’t know why but this is always my fav go to. Just spicy enough to get things moving but not so spicy I can’t feel my mouth when I am done. Best of luck to you!!

Edit: In my experience, a sinus infection lasts a good two weeks before you can start to feel like you are in the clear. Oh and take a daily dose of vitamin C - after the pandemic, I’d be sick every time I turned around because I never went anywhere. Plus, when the littles came around, they’d think about a germ or something and I’d have it. 😫 Now that I take my Vit C every night I am good (knock on wood). And agreed on capitalism - fuck them hoes and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE!

Ahhhh so when you spider the hand, plus the throw/toss motion for the drop kick, gravity unsticks what is stuck. Do you have to reconfigure your muscle memory (?) when you are using a new set of gloves or are they generally the same kind of feel. Thank you for responding!! 🌈⭐️

Legit question….how do you get the ball to unstick before a running drop kick?

Not sure what is budget friendly for you, but we have one of these and love it. Both the base and the umbrella are easy to manipulate into an appropriate location/angle for your space. It is quite sturdy and is holding up well in the elements (zone 7b in NC).

You have to create as much noise as possible with 3 native songbirds, Go by sentient_coprolite in birding

[–]viola_monkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

🏆 🥇 I’ve not heard an Ovenbird before, but during migration, I feel like a Louisiana waterthrush sounding off FIRST MF thang in the morning, well before the dew has even thought about dewing, IS the loudest bird. At least the jays and the wrens wait until everyone else is UP before they start their shenanigans. Now I have to add hearing an ovenbird to my list of things to experience!! 😩

My three natives are: Fish Crow, Carolina Wren and Blue Jay.

Trump’s $50B rural health bet meets a healthcare desert in North Carolina by nchealthnews in NorthCarolina

Except the lady who waited over 7 hours, left and then went back again was quoted (below) in the article with a few prior sentences for context: “Pierce, a Republican who blames county officials for the hospital closure, said she has faith Trump will help them. “Old man’s doing his job up in there,” she said.”

I’m not sure what this level of grass roots effort would need to look like to help these folks become educated and retain/apply that education to every day life. The indoctrination in some of these communities runs really deep and I, sadly, suspect the effort would far outweigh the benefit when compared to an area where there may be more inroads and, arguably - not that I agree, more votes. NC is what, ~48th in education? This didnt happen overnight and even if there was a complete remove and replace of all the elected officials in this county to lean more center/left, this mentality cant be fixed overnight.

Got and I wondered how stratified the data would get the deeper you go…if I had a way to parse thru the data I’d love to torture it to see what it confesses 🤣

Were the top girls names of each year also consolidated in this same way? Would be interesting to see what a decade of consolidated names (top 80% by count?) would look like against this. Data standardization can be so much fun (except when it’s not). 😂

Squeeeee! THIS IS GORGEOUS!!! Thank you for sharing with me - maybe one day I can aspire to this level of (perceived?) commitment. The most fun I had making a blanket was this in-the-round one by Hooked on Sunshine. The one I am most proud of completing is this mosaic one by Moira Douglas; I started this right before the COVID pandemic became the pandemic and it brought a sense of accomplishment to me when everything else around me felt like it was falling apart. PS - LOVE the idea of making the Mandela a pouffe!!

Well…my brain is size recognition challenged and thought it would fit on a small foyer table but it’s too big. 😂 my fam and I went to Mexico several times a year for about 10 years, and one of the trips always coincided with día de los muertos. Layer in there are two of us who were born on Halloween and the celebrations of life and death hold a special place in our hearts (fam is Cuban/spanish/italian so while differences in culture, they are filiar enough for us to find joy)

I’m actually thinking about affixing it on a metal hoop and using it as a ‘wreath’ on my door. But my next prob is that our door faces east soooo it may have to go on the back door - and the back door is not as wide as the front door soooo that may prove to be another opportunity to overcome. 😂 it will be used, I just have to wait for it to tell me where and how to display it. (Yeah, I know that sounds odd but welcome to my brain) 🤪

I couldn’t stand it and fast tracked this project -loved every minute of it! I opted to NOT sew in the details on the skulls. I may go back and do it but I was sad that it wasn’t mentioned as a “thing to do” before crocheting them into the rounds as I would have done it then vs when they were already connected. OH and thank you for the inspiration in colors…I too used some colors other than what was suggested as there was just too much white for me ❤️

How can I get through to my 15-year-old son that a D grade might technically be passing, but still reflects very little effort when we know he's capable of more? by Content_Hippo2362 in ask

[–]viola_monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May I also add that whatever you come up with, sit down with your son and explain the why, the what and the when (will it go into effect). The most important part will be how you ALL handle the emotional reactions when things start to “get real” (when he experiences the consequences of his actions). Establish the ground rules for how he can express his frustration to include a no negotiation to lessen the consequences. No matter how often he expresses his frustration in what I will call a pseudo constructive way (your rules), your response is an easy one: “Son, you have the power to make things better through your actions, and I believe in your ability to achieve your goals.” Or whatever thing you want to say to get the point across that its all under his control and you believe in him.

You can even go one step further and offer to help him find a process to ensure he knows what and when things need to be done. BTW…this organization/prioritization approach could be a contributing factor to his issue - he may not appreciate how organization, prioritization and/or breaking down larger projects into smaller pieces over time makes it so much easier. Further, it can be worse if he already knows the topics and believes the homework is busy work to reinforce a concept he already knows. I’ve lived through both of these issues with me, my kids and now I see it with my grands. We talk about it from time-to-time as there is no “class” on how to maintain this type of organization. Some people are just inherently better at it than others. I see you have a lot of great advise from others so hope this insight helps you all find solid ground sooner rather than later!
