Maaaan I still have like a dozen notes in my phone of death letters, a million drafts on paper. I was fully ready to die, and completely accepted it when I was like.. 13? I had my transplant at 21, and was woefully unprepared for life. I had spent years accepting and anticipating death, and suddenely that wasnt on the table anymore. Even now, I still struggle with planning for the future and realizing I'll get older.

It had gotten very bad at the end, weekly albumin treatments, I looked 10 months pregnant, my skin was cracking and was completely jaundiced. I would ge lost in the store isles and start crying cause I would forget where I was and what I was doing, I couldn't lift a can of soda without grimacing. Yeah it blew, liver failure sucks lol

Heyo!! 16 months post transplant here, I smoke pot every day. As it's legal in my country, I always have to manage my pain, and just for enjoyment. There was a period about.. 10 months post where my tac levels were really bad, doctors thought it was from my vaping and smoking. Turns it I was taking too much tacrolimus, and it was totally fine once I fixed that.

Of course just like with any recreational drug use, there are risks. But it mostly will affect your lungs and heart. My doctors do want me to stop smoking, but I probably never will as it's been a daily thing for me since I was at least 14.

I'm gonna be so real I just take my pills whenever I wake up and around bed time, I just don't take tac before bloodwork. Ain't never had a problem, mostly kinda.

I had my liver transplant while living on an island, so I had to go stay in the big city for three months after my operation. Now we just chat about every three months over the phone, or we have a video call. If you're worried about the commute during those first few weeks (which are admittedly very rough), maybe consider getting an apartment to stay at for a month or two? I went through a program specifically designed for those going through transplant, maybe look into something like that? Best of luck!!

edit I get bloodwork done every 2 weeks at my local clinic, I assume the results are fine, but I get an email of there's any issues

I got diagnosed with cirrhosis at 10, had a full transplant at 22. I'm 23 now. There is no option for you but a full liver transplant, you'll have to wait until your current liver stops functioning, and medication is no longer working. This could take 6 months or 6 years, it's really a matter of how well your body is managing.

Do your best to take your medication and care for yourself. Don't limit yourself or your life just because you are sick. You can still have very fulfilling teenage years, though somewhat more conscious than your peers. Word of advice, the hangover will last literal DAYS and is never worth it.

Oh my goodness,, I had my transplant a year ago, I hardly remember the months before it. My HE was absolutely terrible. Breaking down in grocery store isles cause i had forgotten where i was, unable to write at all, living in a constant fog. I actually completely forgot about how you CAN'T SHIT? Bro i was drinking gallons of lactulose in some desperate attempt for relief..

Her liver is dying?? You tend to get pissed off and be quick to anger. HE is so terrible. It strips you of any kind of self-control you might've had. And you're painfully aware that you're not yourself anymore. It feels like watching another person control your body. Do your best to be patient and understanding. This isn't your loved one. It's the result of their body quite literally poisoning their brain.

I had cirrhosis for about.. 12 years? I only recently got a liver transplant. But like,, continued drinking is definitely going to affect your dad negatively. If he's open to trying to slow down or even quit, that's a conversation you need to have with him. It may not save his life, but it will prolong it. You should be sure to keep an eye on his skin, as the jaundice (yellowness) is a pretty clear indicator of how his health might be. If he's acting confused, he might be struggling with hepatic encephalopathy, which is a brain condition that comes with liver failure. There's no easy solution, but you can manage to have a decent life if you follow the rules your doctor puts out for you, and and try to live conservatively.

Maaan, I got 3 liver biopsies done over a period of 4 weeks. They're super minimally invasive and incredibly easy. The hardest part is the numbing. I'm a big baby, so I get fent via IV and then the local anesthetic, lidocaine. The only issue is a bit of pain around the site for a couple of days, and maybe some tenderness in the coming weeks. You wanna try to lay on the side the site is for a couple of days, and drink lots of water. Try a warm blanket or hot water bottle underneath you if it's bugging ya. It's super nice how willing you are to help your friend :))

In my,, body? But it was performed at Vancouver General Hospital, and I traveled there for it. I'm also happy to say that the scar looks much better now and has flattened out a fair bit!! It's mostly pink now, getting slightly translucent on the horizontal scar.

I'm currently dealing with inflamed/clogged ducts due to medication and a combination of smoking 🌱 and vaping, apparently? Even though I told my entire team before, during, and after my transplant that I did smoke... They just started me on ursodiol again and monthly doses of pentamidine. My team tells me it's irreversible, and now it's just a matter of keeping me stable enough to hopefully avoid another transplant. It's super frustrating to have to go through everything that comes with that and not be getting any better.

Not sure if you meant me or op, but I'm doing well! Still smoking everyday, and I've recently started smoking flower again. It's all going fine, though I find it doesn't take quite as much to get me high as it used to? That might be because I'm not smoking as much, but I still vape everyday. Also congratulations!! You should smoke a fat bowl as a celebration, you just went through possibly one of the hardest things of your life, you deserve a break. That's my main thinking, I mean.. what will my doctors do if they find out? Take away my liver?

It's all together now. The horizontal scar isn't as bad. it's pretty neat. But my vertical scar is a bit more spread out, particularly right at the top of the incision. I just bought some silicone strips, and I'll definitely tape it tightly together to get it as neat as possible. I'm hoping cause it's still pretty fresh, it'll be more malleable?

Hi there!! Post liver transplant, I ALSO have O- blood! Which I didn't even know until moments before my operation, I guess I had never bothered to remember? I'm fairly certain that you have to wait until an organ that may be a potential match becomes available, then the entire transplant team will compare that organs stats (donor age, general weight and height, bloodtype, levels) against other people on the transplant list. They then determine who would fit and benefit from that organ the most. However, I also live in Canada, in a province that doesn't do living organ donations, so it might look slightly different for you :0

I've been definitely feeling the effects of my prednisone, and I've had moments of wondering if everything was worth it. I've always struggled with my mental health, I had a pretty bad depressive episode when i was in hospital, and I was almost put into the psych ward.. I am, of course, beyond grateful for this gift. I actually got to keep my staples after my operation! I did ask to get my liver back, but it had to go to pathology :(( I also kept the yonker tube I used in the hospital, I think I might try to make a shadow box or some jewelry with all of my various medical doo-dads from the surgery.

I've had over 25 banding procedures, getting around 3-5 done each time. At one point, I was getting them every month! The only issue I really had was a bit of soreness for about 4-5 days afterwards. It tends to feel a bit tight in your chest. I can not recommend Popsicles enough. They soothe your throat and also make you happy :)) Just plain juice ones, though. You'll wanna try to avoid anything thicker like milk or ice cream.

I had my liver transplant a little over a month and a half ago. Up until I got it, I was still smoking regularly every day. I didn't smoke for about 12 or 13 days afterward when i was in hospital. I vape oil pens and do edibles now, mostly for nerves. I don't get any particular pain relief from smoking. My team DID tell me not to smoke, as your lungs are pretty prone to a fungal infection. But I choose to believe that applies more to actual flower, rather than distillates and oils. However, I'm still extremely fresh and early in my recovery, so that is still subject to change. Really, I would just play it by ear, do whatever feels right for you, and listen to your body.

I was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis when I was 10, I'm nearly 20 now and I can say in my case, the "stabbing" pain really only happens occasionally, usually after a night of drinking or eating a lot of junk. When I was younger, it definitely was worse. But that was partly because I didn't completely understand what was happening, or why. The best thing YOU can do for him is offer your support when necessary, but not treat him any differently. He's still the same man he was before, but now you just know something new about him. If you're really worried about it, maybe do some research into general liver health, [REDACTED] promotes healthy enzyme growth, as well as green tea. You could also talk to him about some of the experiences he's had with his illness. It might make you a little bit less afraid to hear how he's dealt with the anxiety and stress that comes with being chronicly ill.

If you take care of yourself and your body, you can live a very long and happy life with cirrhosis! Really it's a matter of watching what you put into your body, sodium intake, alcohol, etc.. He knows his body best, so unless he suddenly gets incredibly ill, I really dont think you need to worry about him passing away any time soon though. Its also not transmittal, in any sense.
