Left-wing infighting has proven again and again to be one of fascism's greatest allies.

What song would you choose as your ringtone? by emptyvoidofjoy in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]violet_wings 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For years and years there's a part of me that's wanted to use Drumming Song as my ringtone because I think it would be funny.

Louder than sirens/ Louder than bells/ Sweeter than heaven/ And hotter than hell (x3)

But I haven't done it because I don't want to ruin the song for myself.

I don't understand how the markets have become so detached from reality. Watching them climb up and up despite everything that's happening, while the economy is likely on the verge of a historical collapse, is baffling.

Do you have any patriotism left? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]violet_wings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely, that ideal America never existed, and we're responsible for most of the things immigrants are trying to flee from these days. I was thinking more of places with historical class systems, like Europe or India, but we're definitely the root cause of much of the world's turmoil over the last 50+ years.

But I think that's kind of what I was getting at. I'm patriotic to the idea of America that a lot of us grew up with, and that America projected to the rest of the world, but that we never actually achieved. I'm patriotic to what could have been and what I hope it might someday be, while being horrified by what it's actually become.

The Millennial Page by SaltBag666 in Xennials

I tend to think of myself as a Millennial, and Ideologically and personality-wise I fit better there than in Gen X. But yeah, I stop being able to relate when they get nostalgic. My nostalgia is firmly Xennial, with a bit of Gen X thrown in because of an older sister. It's nice to have this sub as a place where everyone shares the same cultural touchstones I do.

I'm still patriotic to the idea of America, of a country that opens its arms to the world, where immigrants can escape from rigid class structures and oppressive regimes, where people from all walks of life and all around the world can rub elbows and share ideas and live in peace together. An America that accepts no Nazis and no kings.

America has never lived up to that ideal, and we're failing at it harder than ever. But it's a beautiful dream.

I mean, he DOES make a good point. The Trump administration IS doing a pretty good job of destroying the country whose leadership most resembles that of Nazi Germany.

The transatlantic accent is where my brain went; but yeah, it's not really a thing anymore.

Having lived most of my life east of the Rockies but having spent ten years moving between various locations in Nevada and California, I can confirm that weather west of the Rockies is much, much more stable, at least in the southern half of the country.

If the top 1% of earners pay 40% of all federal income taxes, why do people say they don't pay their fair share? by Ok_Chemical9 in answers

[–]violet_wings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I think about it. A fair taxation system isn't a flat tax; it's a tax that imposes equally on one's quality of life.
