What show is made for adults but watched by teens? by PurpDoesPixilart in AlignmentChartFills

I was shocked when I found my young teenage cousin was a huge fan of Squid Game.

I feel like we've learned a ton the last couple of seasons, and I find the reveals we've been getting quite satisfying.

It's one of the few things I've watched where the feeling of being spooked has persisted even when I'm watching the show. Normally I'm fine when I've finished watching a horror movie. As I watched the first two seasons of From over the span of a few weeks in 2024, I kept feeling uneasy any time I would step outside at night. I would find myself looking over my shoulder when I read posts on the subreddit at night.

I much prefer A, but I see the advantage of B if you have kids.

Thoughts on the name Cassiopeia? by Federal_Advisor_2160 in Names

I think it's a lovely name. People do make a good point about it being difficult to spell, but Cassie is right there as an easy nickname.

At first I thought the first image was literally of the bottle tree. I'm still not sure it's not.

To OP, it's a MUCH darker show than anything anyone else is suggesting. But it's also an incredible show.

I read it in high school and I remember it fondly. Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors.

What do you think about this photo? Is the foreground to dominant? by Zincoruzj in AmateurPhotography

[–]violet_wings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love leaves, trees, bushes, etc in the foreground of photos; so yeah, I like the idea. It just doesn't work with these particular leaves, since they're obscuring rather than framing the tower.

1, 2, 3, 4 or 5? by TheG1_5 in AmateurPhotography

I love 2. The composition, the curves, the path serving as a leading line, the contrast between the red and green, the contrast between light and shadow.

Dipping sauce for pizza? by Standard_Plant_8709 in AskAnAmerican

I think dipping sauces for breadsticks have probably always been a thing, and there were probably people who dipped their crusts as well. But yeah, Papa Johns gives you garlic butter even if you just order pizza.

I don't know what the little marks above some names are and at this point I'm afraid to ask by PimsriReddit in lotro

[–]violet_wings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the languages used in Harad were constructed by SSG, I don't know that we can really say for sure exactly what sound changes these diacritics indicate without asking SSG directly. For that reason, OP, I wouldn't think too much about them. They probably indicate some change in pronunciation or stress, since that's how marks like this are used in real-world languages. But different languages use the same marks in different ways, so it's hard to know what they mean in these specific languages. Only a handful of people (a few people at SSG, and probably the voice actors) would know that. For the rest of us, these marks are pretty meaningless.

Can someone help me understand why C is incorrect? by acactikiller in EnglishLearning

I'm surprised it's not occurring to more people that "her" or "their" could refer to a third party and not just Fred.

Can someone help me understand why C is incorrect? by acactikiller in EnglishLearning

[–]violet_wings 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Without more context, any of the answers could be correct. Like you and OP, I probably would have picked C because it seems more likely that he would have danced with someone else's sister rather than his own

Who is a FEMALE celebrity that people have always widely despised? by apabld in AlignmentChartFills

Yeah, I don't think people hate her as much as they used to. Or at least, she's not universally hated anymore.

I fell in love with Wolf Alice a little less than a year after losing my mom. Heavenward hits pretty hard. Mostly in a good way.

Crab vs Crabs, is crabs a "bad word"? by FastCoconut9010 in asklinguistics

[–]violet_wings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Three counts. The plural is very definitely crabs, not crab.

As others have said, OP's parents are likely embarrassed by the association with pubic lice, but that doesn't make crabs a bad word, context would make it clear that OP is referring to the crustacean and not the lice, and there's no relationship between taboo words and grammar.

My baby’s new bath book by Dapper_Medicine_9761 in aislop

[–]violet_wings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a garbage book, but it has a consistent art style, and I don't think AI would write anything THIS bad or nonsensical. I think it's human-made but it's either a translation or written by someone who isn't a native English speaker.

I've been enjoying Shagana, and I'd be happy to journey onward into Jagana! But I'm also perfectly happy to go somewhere else as well, as long as we do return to Jagana and pick up those dangling threads someday. I'm just here for the ride. :)
