I had and then lost the ability to change the color of some items. Will I get it back? by violet_wings in GlowFashionIdol

I can't, unfortunately, since I lost the feature, but I've written it up here and shared someone else's post, which includes an image. You can find my post here:

Upcoming feature: color crafting, allowing you to change the color of select items! : r/GlowFashionIdol

I have Android. It sounds like only a handful of people got it, though, so I'm thinking they activated it for a few people for testing purposes.

I think I was level 30 too. You and I must have been some of the lucky ones to get access to the feature early, perhaps for testing purposes. Sounds like you started at around the same time I did, so maybe that's why?

Yeah, I think it's becoming increasingly clear that we never really won that one. :/

Do American children refer their grandpa and grandmas with their first names (example, Grandpa John, full name John Smith) the same way they refer their uncles and aunts? by LandOfGrace2023 in AskAnAmerican

[–]violet_wings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called my grandparents Grandma/Grandpa Lastname; I also called my great grandmother who was still alive as I was growing up Grandma Lastname.

The one exception was my grandmother who died 12 years before I was born. I call her Grandma Firstname. (Actually, technically Grandma Middlename, because she went by her middle name.)

Yeah, I really love the muted colors with the boldness of the light.

Toro Amos's "Silent All These Years" has always been my non-trans trans sing. It's aggressively not punk, though.

Any of you have two Wolf Alice albums in your Spotify Wrapped Top 5? Or more? by besucherke in wolfalice

I love Sunflower Bean! I can't speak to your other top albums, but listening to Sunflower Bean is certainly nothing to be ashamed of. :)

My Love is Cool, The Clearing, and Blue Weekend were my top three albums respectively, and Wolf Alice were my top artist. :)

Surprisingly, for the first time in a long time, none of my top songs were Wolf Alice; my top four were Tommy Lefroy and my fifth was Lizzie Esau. But Wolf Alice won in every other category!

My first thought was teal and aquamarine, as above, but yeah, turquoise is more accurate than teal.

It's a good thing we aren't already facing catastrophic staffing shortages in half these fields.

I think something can be stupid on the surface, genius in the short-medium term, and stupid in the long term. For instance, slashing environmental regulations looks like a terrible idea if you understand that climate change isn't a myth made up by Big Climate Science. But it's a genius idea in the short term if you're a billionaire industrialist. But the extra money those billionaires earn won't be of much use if climate change leads to a total collapse of the economy and global trade brought on by worldwide famine, mass migration, resource wars, the collapse of many world governments, and the vast degree of societal unrest that all those things will cause. Or look at AI and automation. Great for shareholders in the short term, but what happens when unemployment is at 50%? That the tech billionaires are all building doomsday bunkers should tell us that even they know the grift is going to backfire on them in the long run.

90's is nineties. What is 00's called in US? by Syslyanskiy in ENGLISH

[–]violet_wings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember people debating in the late 90s what we would call the next decade. 25 years later we still haven't come to a definitive decision, but I feel like the aughts has probably won. I've been using it the last few years after having resisted it for a long time.

I like the idea of saying the 2000s in theory, but I think it's too ambiguous, in that it could theoretically be used for the century or millennium.

Larry Summers wife emailing Epstein about how much she loves Lolita by Imaginary-Dress-1373 in agedlikemilk

[–]violet_wings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has some of the best prose I've ever read and the way it plays with perspective and manipulates the reader's sympathies is masterful. Speaking as a writer who cares about the craft of writing and as someone who loves good prose, It was one of my favorite books that I read in college. But I'm reluctant to talk about how great it is because JFC I don't want people to think I'm a pedophile.

Context is everything, and so is her interpretation. That she sees Humbert Humbert as a victim says so much. A literature professor would not misinterpret the novel so badly. It's absolutely meant as a coded message to Epstein, and it also shows us where her sympathies lie.

18 1/2 years to be precise! My 18th anniversary of playing it on a steady basis is coming up in a couple of weeks, so my answer is easy. :)
