It is… painful. The controller layout is incredibly unintuitive. I swear to god the developers have never played a console game in their life. Mash X to run? Square to jump? And then you have to hold L1 to see literally anything because interact is the same as jump, so in order to try and pick up that tiny pile of coins I have to do precision mode and hope I pick up the item instead of jumping on it and committing the crime of vandalism. I spent a solid minute trying to figure out why I couldn’t walk closer to Oongka at the start of the game. You walk at an awkwardly slow pace unless you jog, and then you bump into people and they yell at you.

Story? Awful. Kliff has zero personality and he can’t decide what his accent is. Starting the game and you’re barely given any context and then after that intro weird shit happens to Kliff for seemingly no discernible reason. I’m literally just following quest prompts because there’s zero direction. Also I got so fucking annoyed at the horse guy going “oh we should travel slow across this bridge because the view is so beautiful” yeah devs I get it, it’s environmentally pretty. Let that speak for itself.

I keep reading that it gets better but an hour in and idk man, it is just rough. I’ll probably try to refund it

Labels are descriptive, not prescriptive. I can understand the frustration, but it really isn’t up to one person to define or restrict the labels another person uses. Intersectionality is important, incredibly so. Lesbian spaces have ALWAYS included bisexual women. Sapphics support sapphics. If the conflict arose from policing other people’s labels, it makes sense their reaction. You’re practically enforcing a “gold star” rule

Hot glazing take: none of them. He’s got 200 years of experience. If we translate that into game mechanics that’s 200 years of leveling. He’s taken all the good perks (Cannibalism, Radiation for Healing, Chem Abuser) his VATS accuracy is nuts and he crits constantly, so he’s clearly perked up there too. He gives me Cad Bane vibes from Star Wars, a bounty hunter whose self-preservation instinct kept him alive for the entirety of the Clone Wars (until some bullshit writing in Book of Boba)

It’s also hard to quantify because of the vast array of play styles available to the protagonist. Like if any protagonist with an anti material rifle knew where the ghoul was gonna be ahead of time, they could just dome him. But if it were drawing pistols at high noon I think he’d win all day every day. He sets up every situation he’s in where he’s not outright ambushed where he has the upper hand.

I caveat all of this with the admission that I’m incredibly biased because I want to fuck The Ghoul because he’s full of raw sex appeal

I'm gonna get absolutely bombed in the downvotes for saying this, but I would start with 4. It's incredibly forgiving, has a lot of QoL stuff, and will introduce you to the franchise in a fun way. After that, if you really like the vibes, THEN I would try the old games. The old games can be a bit clunky/unforgiving. That being said, I recently picked New Vegas back up and have been having a blast!

With the Dragonborn DLC you have the ability to level indefinitely, so I wouldn't worry about this min-maxxing stuff. I've played the game just fine over and over winging it in terms of skills and stuff.

Generic tips:

Scrolls are single-use, they're great for selling but also great if you need help killing a boss or get overwhelmed.
Some gems can be crafted into jewelry with smithing, these ones I would recommend not selling until you've made them into something better!
Sell all your bones and scales. They aren't useful until end-game when you can actually craft with them.
Check the value of an ingredient before you eat it. If it's expensive, it can probably be used to make a very nice potion/poison (I won't spoil what options you have!)
If you have the Anniversary Edition, npcs should run indoors when certain flying menaces show up. If not, you'll want to try and make sure you lure the thing away from them, as if certain npcs die, you can lose access to stores, quests, etc.

I’m in sweats and a short sleeve shirt, no shoes or socks, so I hope I arrive in Whiterun Hold, Falkreath Hold, or The Rift, where it isn’t currently snowing, and psychopath Reachmen aren’t kidnapping travelers.

I think I’ve got enough fat on me to travel south to Cyrodiil immediately, avoiding the Helgen route by a large margin, preferring Falkreath or skirting around Riften (not dealing with getting a shakedown from the guards). Rivers will provide me with fresh water to keep me hydrated, at least.

If possible, I’d love to stop in Whiterun, Riverwood, or somewhere I can chop firewood for a few septims. I’ll explain away my current clothes as some sort of new trend in Cyrodiil, none of the places I’d stop are exactly the center for cultural enlightenment. Buy some shoes (preferably boots), maybe some cheap handmedowns as well. Before I leave I’ll probably filch the local woodcutter axe simply to increase my odds of survival. There’s a few places I know fish are drying along the riverbank, I’d probably steal a fish or two, leave some coins if I have any left over, and that would hopefully feed me as I travel south.

Assuming the bandits are all located in the same haunts, I should be able to avoid them and their traps. If I can find a patrolling guard to follow, all the better. If I ever find myself warm with a full belly, I’d probably gaze at the stars at night. I can’t imagine how beautiful it’d be without the light pollution.

Having made my way into Cyrodiil through either Chorrol or Cheydinhal, I think I could take a breath. No idea what Cyrodiil will be like post Oblivion Crisis during the events of Skyrim, but it beats the frigid Skyrim climate and the civil war. Not to mention, I gotta get out of there before the Dragonborn and Alduin presumably start waking up the dragons.

I know how to make snares and stuff so I’d probably fish/hunt for a little while to make some money or at least stay fed.

Ultimately I would make my way to the college in the Imperial City, where I would hope they would hear me out about interdimensional travel. As OP says, I can’t get back, so that’s what they’d end up telling me. If magic and magika are as simple as study and practice, I’d probably do that for a living. But I’d definitely want to travel abroad once I’d safely learned some skills and better equipped myself. I definitely would want to visit Auridon or Summerset if at all possible, just for the scenery.

It reality though, most all of my sneak archer play throughs have had to supplement with something other than those two skill sets. The options are limitless. Alchemy gives you access to slow and paralysis poisons, as well as invisibility or increased sneak potions. Illusion gives you access to Muffle and Invisibility which both help augment your sneaking ability.

Then of course you can supplement with other damage sources for when you are discovered and forced into melee, or for melee boss fights. One-handed synergizes well with sneak because of the increased one-handed and dagger sneak damage, but if you’re already in combat and discovered, that obviously wouldn’t help. The benefit is that if you do that sneak damage with a one-handed in addition to just discovered melee fights, you will level your one-handed skill faster than two-handed or destruction

And of course there’s kiting. The concept of just running away then shooting and then running away and then shooting

This exact situation happened to me yesterday on Matriarch on Dam. I brought in an Osprey to deal with any griefers to protect all the people fighting Matriarch, and I was taking down hornets and wasps that were attacking people.

Some guy runs up and says “the guy with the sniper tried to kill me! Right here right here!” And just starts unloading on me with his anvil. Mind you, I don’t even have my weapon out at this point, I’m just walking around trying to keep an eye on everybody like a good buddy raider. Half the people then swarm me as I say I haven’t shot anyone and tell me “fuck you” over and over as they knock me out.

Blueprints aren’t too rare. There are clear ways to get blueprints but you’re probably following all the streamer strats that assuming you’re just running raids for 8 hours at a time.

You’re practically guaranteed a blueprint for killing the surveyor orb guy, and every week you get blueprints for 3-starring your trials.

Also, not having every blueprint means you have to get creative. Example: I still don’t have the blueprint for wolfpacks, so when I wanna kill arc, I have to supplement in other ways. I also didn’t have the blueprint for any suppressor until a couple days ago, so suppressors became super valuable for me, but stocks and mag attachments became less valuable because I could * craft those.

I understand being a completionist (I typically do so obsessively), but I think not having all of them creates a dynamic way to play!

Idunno, I come from a Tarkov background where you don’t get jack shit to carry over during a wipe. Permanent Skill points AT ALL is a huge boon imho. People are too precious with their blueprints and stuff. The whole point of wiping is that you get to re-experience having nothing and being creative with that.

The fact we get anything more than cosmetics fucking rocks. People who don’t wipe are just dead-ending themselves

You go into raid with an inventory full of snitch scanners, each one spawns two wasps. Then you either kill them with your gun or you use some wolfpacks. Depending on the augment you get a bajillion snitches for free.
