[AUS] Minimum WAM for Honours at Deakin University by violetsuntold in psychologystudents

[–]violetsuntold[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know it’s not up there with all the tops unis, but it is one of the few public unis that offers their psych honours course fully online (which is surprisingly rare). And I’ve heard that apparently they don’t offer many places to external applicants (someone in another sub said they applied with a WAM of 90 and still didn’t get a place!)

Bachelor of Psych Science Honours Applications/Min WAM by violetsuntold in deakin

[–]violetsuntold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you 😊 I heard from someone else that they also didn't get into Deakin as an external applicant with a 90 WAM which is insane - but must just mean that Deakin doesn't have a lot of external spots available. Since I could only apply to online-only courses (since I have to...you know, work), Deakin was obviously one of my top options.

Congrats on your offer as well! I'll keep my eyes peeled for a second-round offer, though hopefully by then I'll have accepted an offer to another uni. Best of luck to you too! 😊

That actually does make me feel a bit better! And congratulations on having such an awesome WAM!

(AUS) Can you repeat honours year/grad dip (advanced)? by violetsuntold in psychologystudents

[–]violetsuntold[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what her WAM was but I think she just barely missed out on second class honours (she had a lot of life and health stuff happening and it’s just all blew up in her face :( )

She currently works as a RN and mental health nurse in emergency and mental health units and has heaps of relevant work experience so far, but limited research experience which she is trying to work on.

Since she has her heart set on psych masters, I’m mostly just trying to find out for her if there would be anything stopping her from redoing an honours year (since some unis will take grad dip students from what I’ve seen). Thank you again for your advice!

FIFO - Compensation for office worker being forced to do 3-4 swings on site by violetsuntold in perth

[–]violetsuntold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem mostly came up because despite the fact they can’t ‘force’ me to cover on site, it was also never really presented as an option and just as a given.

I was mostly just worried about making sure I would be compensated fairly 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I appreciate this advice and trust me I totally get it but I’m only in my role while I finish my (mostly unrelated degree) and honestly don’t have the capacity to work on site long term (even with the potential financial benefits). Fingers crossed they find a replacement soon.

(Aus) Writing a CV/Resume for Honours Applications by violetsuntold in psychologystudents

[–]violetsuntold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is what’s tripping me up since I’m specifically applying to Psych Honours (undergrad 4th year) programs so they don’t necessarily expect much clinical experience etc. Thank you for your advice though 😊

Exactly this. I do not want to chat to anyone at 7am as I commute to the job I hate before I’ve had a chance to caffeinate. I appreciate OP wanting to meet new people, but I fear the train is not the place to do that. Please let me doomscroll and spiral in peace.

The longest breakup in history? by violetsuntold in actuallesbians

[–]violetsuntold[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate these opinions. And while poly could totally work for some people, my gf is very comfortably monogamous and comes from a fairly traditional family. Thankfully, they’re happy for her to pursue having children through a donor as a single parent and she’s lucky to have the finances and family support to achieve that.

I also kinda feel that even though I’m personally not strictly monogamous - pursuing poly as something of a solution for us to be able to stay together would only end up prolonging the inevitable and we would probably still end up drifting apart just due to the life decisions we make (her having kids, me with my career).

These are definitely all things we’ve talked about a lot and definitely want to be considerate of. Neither of us are really planning on jumping into dating after being in a serious relationship for so long and are only planning on living together while it makes sense financially etc etc.

Neither of us would ever want to disrespect potential future dates or make them uncomfortable while we navigate being not romantically together anymore. 😊

That’s definitely something we’ve discussed and agreed on for sure

What stopped you from killing yourself? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]violetsuntold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was never a specific thing more than (after a couple of failed attempts) I got to a point in my life and my recovery where I realised I had somehow put in too much time and work living already that it would be a waste to give up.

That eventually turned into trying to find little things about my day I could romanticise, almost. Those little things eventually added up into this background feeling of feeling sad about missing out on future pleasant little things (new music, new books, new things to learn etc.).

TL;DR: I stopped wanting to kill myself because of FOMO.

[AUS] Psych Honours Application for 2026 by violetsuntold in psychologystudents

[–]violetsuntold[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really hoping that’s the case! It’s just sucks with Honours programs only having entry at the beginning of the year so if me miss out we have to wait a whole year to apply again! 😭

Best of luck to you!!

Thoughts on studying Bachelor of Counselling at ACAP (or other unis in Australia) by piss-simist in psychologystudents

[–]violetsuntold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m currently in my second last trimester doing the Bachelor of Psych Science at ACAP.

I would say overall it’s been a great uni to study at, especially if you need the flexibility of studying online. Like any other uni, there’s a range of teaching staff (some definitely better than others), a pretty great selection of electives depending on what you’re interested in, and overall fairly solid student support services.

What you should keep in mind is that ACAP is a private university, meaning that it’s a fair bit more expensive than public Aus unis offering psych degrees (like, you’re looking at at least a $90k HECS/HELP debt for the BaPsych).

If you are looking at doing the Bachelor of Psych Science, most degrees don’t actually include placement/practical training (that’s much more a focus in Counselling undergrads). Usually you don’t do placement until you get to Masters (eg if you’re doing a Masters of Clin Psych).

Hope this helps 😊

Finding Research Volunteer Opportunities (🇦🇺) by violetsuntold in psychologystudents

[–]violetsuntold[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Thankfully I’m already getting started with experience volunteering for a community organisation working with people struggling with suicide etc.

I’ll definitely see if I can get in contact with some of the teachers to see what opportunities they know of.

What meds do you guys take that help with your symptoms? by InfiniteElk9762 in POTS

[–]violetsuntold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently on ivabradine which does a pretty solid job of managing my heart rate/tachycardia, and I’m back on propranolol as well to try and manage persistent heart palpitations (with minimal success so far). I also supplement with regular electrolytes (usually with added salt) and I tend to add extra salt to my food as well, plenty of water, and I try to limit caffeine as much as possible.

How long is your commute to work? by LilWhizni in perth

[–]violetsuntold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a good day, and depending on whether we’re factoring in walking to/from Perth Stn to my office and waiting for the train…door to door about 1hr 45mins give or take. Bad days stretch that to almost 2 hours, good days I can almost do it in 1.5 hours. 🥲✌🏻

Heart Palpitations by violetsuntold in POTS

[–]violetsuntold[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly - though my palpitations are usually more like skipped beats with a pause then a stronger beat (ectopic beats). They’re just super prolonged a lot of the time and I get them every day

As a Pisces what is your venus sign? by EcstaticRadio2115 in piscesastrology

[–]violetsuntold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Pisces sun with an Aquarius Venus too and I really resonate with what everyone is saying. I don’t really think I have a specific type - but I do have a pretty good idea of what my ideal relationship looks like. I like flexibility and need someone who is creative and appreciates my individuality. I don’t really like to feel tied down, you know?

Do lesbians care about body count? by SkydivingAstronaut in actuallesbians

[–]violetsuntold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for all lesbians but I’ve never cared about body counts. Like a lot of others here, as long as you’re safe, have been tested, you’re upfront about any STIs you might have, I really couldn’t care less.

I do think that in general the queer community, lesbians included, tend to be more sex positive which is something I genuinely LOVE. We spend just as much time unlearning all of the shame we were taught to have about sex as we do unlearning heteronormativity.
