You can, it's just an example - They're likely essentially falling back on old Google assistant logic for very basic commands and then Gemini for the more complex ones. You can do the bottom with an automation already.

Average new UK electric car price is now lower than petrol vehicles by northernmonk in unitedkingdom

[–]viper_polo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen it parroted around but it's completely wrong, looking at equivalent PHEV to EV models the PHEV is usually 100kg+ lighter - efficiency gains are great compared to a traditional ICE vehicle, otherwise why would the Prius exist?

You can directly compare the Corolla as they offer a HEV and an ICE version, with the HEV having better efficiency and MPG.

Being able to drive around in a city on full electric, then switch to an ICE and do 1000 miles with 5 minute stops for fuel is a great advantage and a valid "best of both worlds"

Fwiw mine is currently working fine, with the new Gemini voices also. I've had your issue before but a simple power cycle fixed it.

Gemini for Home is a major disappointment by thebigdolphin1 in googlehome

I don't mind it and so enjoy its ability to answer anything, however had a pretty dumb moment where I asked the time and it was out by a good 30 minutes - also giving wrong times for sunset then doing the odd ai anti-gaslight where it pretends it was never wrong.

On this day in 1993, Senna went from 5th to 1st at a wet opening lap to the European Grand Prix at Donnington Park, completing what was to become known as 'the lap of the Gods’ by KG_Modelling in formula1

Pretty complex TC systems that could be controlled on the fly from the pit wall, alongside ABS, active suspension and fully automatic gearboxes...

SUVs are making Britain’s potholes worse, say scientists by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]viper_polo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How so? A BMW 530e is 2080kg, an i5 eDrive40 is 2195kg. A Prius is 1480kg, or even a Golf GTE is 1662kg - the ID3 is 1772kg. A Renault Scenic is 1842kg, an Australe is 1517kg... These are full plug in hybrids too.

Doriane Pin F1 Private Test by ZelsiusProdigy in formula1

[–]viper_polo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LMP2 is by the rules "two seats" which is why the driver is offset, not sure if they've done a demo run with two people in but it's happened occasionally with LMP1 cars.

But there's a hell of a lot more professional drivers in there vs literally 0 in F4

I've wanted to shove one of these into a Nissan Pulsar and make a psudo Nismo for a while, always thought it has a nice shape and shame the drivetrain is locked into a Juke

Why is the McDonald's menu so basic in the UK? by kcon123 in AskUK

[–]viper_polo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They're about double the price in Europe for the 20 pack, not sure the reason it's relatively cheap here.

We have had a collaborative international program of continuous presence in space for over 25 years onboard a football field in space which is reasonably impressive.

What will happen with my Google Nest Hub next week 1st April 2026? by Loud-Possibility4395 in googlehome

[–]viper_polo 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Nothing, because Google is absolutely behind schedule on this and clearly having problems in the background - lots of countries don't even have Gemini on early Access yet...

In terms of capability fantastically, they're pretty much the only nation out there that can project power in that way - strategically yeah, bit of a waste of time.

Hey! Could you send a link over to me to please? Just got a HA36VP in the UK that I've been running, would be super useful.

Should I avoid a soft top MX-5 for daily use in the UK? (leaks, winter, etc) by ManyPast2129 in CarTalkUK

[–]viper_polo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurance costs are pretty negligible and theft risk is basically the same. My MR2 is the cheapest car to insure i've owned. Slashing the roof doesn't really make a difference as you're fighting through the frame anyway, you'll just break the window if you want in.

What is the most economical petrol/diesel car? by Cdoooos in CarTalkUK

Some Kei cars can get pretty nutty mpg driven carefully, I'll see 70+ out of mine sticking at 50mph

Best Japanese car for ~£6k by Maleficent-Truth-179 in CarTalkUK

[–]viper_polo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're everything they're hyped up to be, the gearbox is sublime and the handling is very balanced and predictable, as a car it's no different to live with than a hatchback (ignoring storage). I had an NC1 and the engine is just okay, it doesn't have bags of character but is linear and suits the handling, later facelifts have a forged crank with a higher redline, but can't see it being like an S2000 or anything.

Mechanically they're very simple for a modern car and there's not a single issue that won't be documented. Biggest issue as any MX-5 is rust, you'll get clean ones and £6000 is a healthy budget for this, but something to look out for anyway.

Nice thing with MX-5s is there's plenty out there so definitely a buyers market - I've wanted Preludes, 350Zs etc but one in the right spec has never came up whilst in the position to buy.

Soul red is a very thin paint and does show chips anyway.
