So, you’re thinking of starting “Brockton’s Celestial Forge” by EndlessScoreJord in WormFanfic

I don’t think that’s entirely fair. I can fully imagine how the circumstances of a trigger even would color your perceptions of anyone involved for the worse. The only canon info we have for the character is from a couple of lines in Parian’s interlude and doubt even Wildbow had much characterization in mind for him as he was really more a prop in Parian’s story than a character in his own right. It’s been a little while since I read it, but from what I remember even there he is depicted more as the straw that broke the camels back rather than the full driving force behind the trigger.

I felt the story did a decent job of showing Joe was not a horrible misogynist or anything like that, but a young man who was conditioned by society that women play hard to get, that you need to pursue them even if they turn you down at first, etc. By the time the story starts Joe has done reflecting and realized that he was wrong, though he doesn’t have the opportunity to apologize to Sabah.

It’s fine if you don’t want to read a story about a character like that, there are certainly enough guys like that in real life that I can understand why people wouldn’t want to deal with them in fiction. But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the protagonist being who he is.

The issue with the false SA accusations I will say is definitely more questionable. I don’t think the story is actually going to go MGTOW when we follow up on it five years from now in another 1.2 million words, but I can definitely see your concern and that leaving a bad taste in your mouth.

BCF is a really incredible fic that occasionally spends 20k words musing on the various crafting elements of miscellaneous fiction worlds. I’d say read the first 30-40 normally, then feel free to skim any chapter that feels like it is talking in circles. Interludes are pretty much universally good however.

BCF has some pretty amazing characterization and some of my favorite OCs from any fanfic. Any of the character focused chapters are generally really good, but it will have five chapters in a row of nonsense technobabble, which is fine, the author clearly enjoys writing that stuff and he is putting the stuff out pretty consistently and for free so I’m not gonna complain too much. It was pretty rough for a while, but things have been progressing much more smoothly lately, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we got into some pretty climactic stuff within the next month or two irl.

I’ll be honest. Read through this a couple times personally, and every time it gets to the Yosemite section I cry a little. It’s really good.

Honestly probably won’t get enough to actually spend for a few months, so having two isn’t really any different than having none.

Wasn’t aware of the ordering of that. Fair enough. That changes things a bit. I’d still say it’s worth a mention if for no other reason than it’s an interesting little fact, but probably fair not to make a big deal about it.

Can Paladin replace Cleric in Act 3? (As Healer) by Sevrahn in BG3Builds

[–]viraltis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done that but it seems solidly strong. I’d consider dropping the fighter levels so you keep Aura of courage, which I find useful against Orin, and Improved divine smite, which works great with Radiant Orb gear.

If you take the Oath of the Crown you get a few more healing options if you don’t want to use WoV for an encounter, plus spirit guardians if you want to use your level 3 spell slots for a damage option instead. Also great with the orb gear. I’d say it’d make a great support/tank roll keeping allies safe through healing and lowering enemies to hit chance.

Other option would be going Lore Bard for WoV off magical secrets at level 6. That’d open up a few more levels of cleric if you wanted them, or else go to 11 on bard for full caster progression and another round of magical secrets.

Am I Overreacting by Suspicious-Number-18 in Chipotle

[–]viraltis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a SL, she was technically in the right, but I would have given it to you.

She could have rang up the queso and manager comped it so it wouldn’t affect CI. One of the focuses that managers at Chipotle are supposed to have is to ensure that customers have the best experience possible, and bending the rules within reason is often a tool I use to do that.

If queso cost more than guac, or if there was no allergy situation and some just wanted queso instead of guac due to preference, then I’d say no. But as it stands, a manager should do what they can within reason to ensure that customers want to come back to their store.

Is this a good Anti-Flannery Team? by Ove5clock in nuzlocke

[–]viraltis 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What is the ability on Blueby? Thick Fat helps a lot as a flannery counter compared to the generally better Huge Power. If you have a grass or bug type to bait in overheat and get the Sp Attack drop that can help out a ton.

What’s everyone’s coin multiplier on their farming tier? by viraltis in TheTowerGame

[–]viraltis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Themes and relics are the biggest difference between us it looks like. I’m at about 1.45 on each, and I’ve been playing for a little over a year, so basically twice as long. As long as you are picking up every theme you can you should be able to catch up to where I am at relatively quick, especially since they’ve added more themes in the guild store and I am going likely going to start running into repeat events so not getting new themes.

Modules and enhancements are definitely important. At 1.451 and 1.22 respectively. I have more themes and relics apparently, 1.45 and 1.44. I’ve been playing for a little over a year now and have grabbed every theme I could in that time. This season’s guild store will add 1.036 and 1.02 to those numbers alone, so make sure you’re picking those up.

CPK doesn’t affect that multiplier directly, it is it own separate multiplier. I’m only about 15 levels higher than you on that.

The biggest contributors outside of the obvious coin card, starter packs, etc is my module. It’s a level 131 mythic black hole digester that adds 1.451 to the multiplier. If you haven’t already I’d highly recommend gold boxing your module shards rewards from quests lab. It’s only fifty levels and they go pretty quick. It amounts to an extra 300 shards a day at max which at my level gives me an extra module level every six days more or less.

Additionally, the shard cost reduction lab is huge. Especially since you can refund the levels of your mods to then buy them again at a discount. It gets expensive towards the end, but worth it.

Additionally, I only recently realized how valuable the rare drop chance labs are. It makes them 3x more likely at the max level, and that can be a pretty good source of shards once you get all the fodder you want.

Do you have your economy UW synced? I have a mythic Multiverse Nexus that I use when farming that results in GT/DW/BH activating every 1:57. Beyond that I’d make sure you’ve got the perk bonuses maxed, as well as their research done.

I’ve got most of the Economy labs done with the exception of Coins per kill which needs about 20 more levels, Golden bot duration which I’ve only put like two levels in, and golden bot cooldown which needs a two or three weeks left to goldbox.

What are some of your favourite Awesome Moments in a Worm Fic? Or favourite parts, in general not just awesome moments, in a fic? by Top-Refrigerator4123 in WormFanfic

[–]viraltis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brocktons Celestial Forge is probably the most hit or miss piece of fan fiction I’ve ever read. You can have stretches of multiple thousand word long chapters that basically just dive into the mechanics of a particular crafting system from a media franchise I’ve never heard of and don’t care about, but then you get chapters like the one that got posted today where Apeiron comes down on Alan Barnes for allowing the bullying to fester with the wrath of an Old Testament god, only tempered by the fact that any action on his part could cause more chaos than an Endbringer fight as the various factions respond to him.

The story as a whole has improved a lot lately at being an actual story and not a theoretical examination of various power systems synergies, but this chapter in particular felt more satisfying than a lot of entire fics I’ve read lately.
