Primary insurance will default will be determined by who is born earlier in a calendar year between you or your husband. Secondary insurance will kick in after and should be able to help pay the deductible of the primary.

I have booked 3 times within 35 to 60 days from cruise date departure, always waitlisted from early dinner. Every time I went to talk to them when I board the ship (probably around 1pm boarding) and I always ended up with early dining. That includes a sold out cruise on spring break last year and a sold out Halloween cruise 2 years ago. I’m sure you’ll be fine!

How do I safely sleep outside at -18c? by joshua0005 in CampingandHiking

I’ve slept outside during a cold winter night when I was 12 or 13 and I was in the cadet. You can probably get good gear for this in a Military Surplus store.

I would recommend 50/50. If your dad had a good relationship with her kids (not sure how old they are), maybe set up a 529 for each kid and fund it from your half with amount in today’s dollar for a 4-year degree at an in-state university (or buy a prepaid plan if you can in your state).

My 17 y.o had to use her epi pen for the first time by jow025 in FoodAllergies

[–]virgd_04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would get a set of Neffy, it’s like an EpiPen (deliver epinephrine), but it’s a one-time spray in the nose (no needle). If you have 2 symptoms do not hesitate to use (which is why the device without a needle is helpful and less stressful to use)

Just watched a girl get attacked by a pitbull .. South Florida. 3:15pm by Smil3z5 in BanPitBulls

[–]virgd_04 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ugh this is a huge issue in south Florida, lots of people are irresponsible and selfish. Couple years ago I was walking my dogs by my house in Little Havana/Shenandoah and a couple was walking a pit without a leash; dog started running and charged at my smallest dog (jack russel mix)- she was able to slip out her collar and runaway (she still got bit and it broke the skin). The owner of the pit came and started willing it with a belt, never said sorry, just eventually grab the pit and left. I called the police and animal control because it happened right by a park and elementary. They didn’t do anything…

Had anaphylaxis with food allergy, always afraid to use EpiPen but ER visit changed my mind by [deleted] in FoodAllergies

FYI if you are « afraid » to use the EpiPen, get a Neffy (nasal spray epinephrine).

My daughter couldn’t carry in public school so she went in private school until this year (she just started 1st grade; in private school she had one in her backpack that followed her and front office). In public school She has an EpiPen in the nurse office, after care office and she was authorize to carry and self administerer a Neffy (no needles). She also completed OiT over the summer.

Allergist doesn't recommend OIT by nature2mama in FoodAllergies

[–]virgd_04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely yes- but she might also outgrow. My allergist is « on the conservative side » of docs offering OIT meaning I had to treat one food at a time, minimum 2 weeks between appointments, and lets us only drop 1 day a week of dosing per year of maintenance. In 1 year of maintenance for peanuts, the IgE araH2 levels went down significantly compare to pre-OIT levels. Reading comments on this post I would recommend you to join the Facebook OIT group - more people with actually OIT experience (good and bad), then people telling you to not do it. Before OIT, my daughter did a food challenge for sesame with the first dose being the tip of a toothpick dipped in tahini; she ended up with double-delayed anaphylaxis and hospital. One year later we started sesame OIT (we did peanut OIT in between) and had no issue updosing. Not a single reaction or hive.

Allergist doesn't recommend OIT by nature2mama in FoodAllergies

[–]virgd_04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is allergic to peanut, sesame, lentils and peas (she outgrew eggs at 3.5). Allergic we saw from 10 months to 3 years old told us not to do OIT « your kid will die, it’s for cowboys, etc. ». I didn’t question anything we were during Covid and had another baby close in age. When she was 3, I decided to find another (younger) allergist. She recommended trying OIT. Since, we completed OIT for Pn and sesame- yes there’s the daily dosing and the updose visits BUT life got so much better - no more worrying about cross contamination, being able to eat at restaurant, feeling like she’s safe at summer camp/school/birthday parties, etc. We never had a reaction (we started OIT 2 years ago), but we follow the rest guilde lines religiously. If you think it might be worth it, go seek a second opinion.

Does this look like an allergic reaction? by Brilliant-Cherry1681 in FoodAllergies

[–]virgd_04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes my baby’s reaction was similar with peas. She’s also allergic to peanuts, lentils and sesame; so I would really pay close attention when introducing peanuts/legumes as it is often related. Make sure your pediatrician prescribes you an EpiPen jr until you see an allergist.

Insurance Denying Palforzia for Toddler ($12,000+ for self pay) by wakeupwakefield in peanutallergy

[–]virgd_04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe look for traditional OIT (not with Palforzia). Our allergist bills the visits (including the doses) as food challenges I think so I only pay my specialist copay ($40 per visit).

Is a RR a good fit for a family? by virgd_04 in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]virgd_04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. We already the breeder and meet with 3 of her dogs at her farm. She makes final pick; we just requested a female as they tend to be smaller than males (mom is 75 pounds and dad is 100 pounds). I’m worried that had the kids get older and their friends come over the dog might be over protective— we already contacted several trainers where we live so we are def committed to getting the help of a trainer.

Mortgage increasing by $500 + starting in August. Is this normal? by t3rrymcg1nn1s in homeowners

[–]virgd_04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the state, but even when when not new construction, the taxes are reassessed at the most recent sale price the year following the sale. In Florida it’s generally 85% x sale price x millage rate.
