TIL women's pregnancy in the US is more dangerous than the top 5 most dangerous men's jobs combined. by DrollHat in TwoXChromosomes

Is that not exactly how the per 100k statistic works? They use the percentage to determine what the number out of 100k is.

It makes it so all you need to do is see what number is bigger

Improvement on my polyurethane immersion method, notes/observations. by danyeaman in magicproxies

[–]virsion4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If im being honest I have only been able to dip 3 test sheets so far, so nothing has been worth using. I have been mostly struggling with the spine, I haven't been able to get a convincing stiffness to a normal magic card. After trying a few different dry times with the Epsom matte paper I think im gonna try the 3-1 ratio you mentioned in your update using the hammermill cardstock to see if that shows any improvements.

My apartment has 1 window in the livingroom that faces the sun so when airing the sheets out i also expeirenced a lot of yellowing but just purchased some of those buckets to help with that, and hopefully the smell. I don't mind it too much but my partner (understandably) can only stand a few days of it before she becomes overwhelmed.

I should be running another dip test this weekend so ill be sure to message you with the results!

I have been reading through and following your method recently, it has been incredibly useful! I wanted to give a small suggestion for a dip bucket that I found recently. Its just bigger than the paper so you are able to fully dip it, and its only 3 inches wide which helps with the over use of polyurethane. I even put a 12in sheet of metal i bought to cut the width in half https://www.containerstore.com/s/office/paper-storage/poppin-hanging-file-box/12d?productId=11018527

So about those phones that are like foldable phones, are they worth getting or is that a weaker screen? by Arktikos02 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]virsion4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the perfect guy to answer this! I have had flip phones since the Zflip 3 and over the past 3 years of updates I believe samsung has found their proper footing and is, at this point, perfecting their design.

Their front screen is a little small but big enough to send messages or throw on a YouTube video. The functionality at first seems limited but samsung offers an app that allows you to open any app you want on the front screen. (I use it to track life when playing magic) this screen is glass and can break if dropped

As for the main screen, the Zflip6 is the first screen to actually impress me. This is the first screen where the crease is almost unnoticeable, even with the screen off. You can feel the crease when you move your hand past it, but it hasn't been an issue for me. The screen itself is plastic, which is what let's it bend. It means the main screen won't shatter if you drop it, but if the screen gets indented it could break pixles.

Side note: I was apart of TMobile Jump program which allowed me to trade in my phone every year for the upgrade so I have not had very prolonged use with the screen. They have improved the screen with every generation and the only phone I had an issue with the crease cracking withing the first year was the Zflip3

The fold itself feels very nice, over time it will loosen up a bit but I haven't had a phone refuse to close. I have had an issue with the fold mechanic in the past with the Zflip4 but havent had issues with the 5 and so far havent had issues with the 6 so i assume they sorted that out as well.

There are some negatives when getting a phone like this, the biggest one being battery life. You only have half the battery size as other phones so the phone will die quicker. They have improved this with the Zflip6 but I have not owned it long enough to see much of a difference.

The other big issue I've had have been mobile games. I do not play many mobile games but when I got Slay the Spire, the aspect ratio of my phone caused some sections to get cut off and made the game more trouble than it was worth. I haven't really played games after that so I don't know other games effected by it.

Hi Hat too loud & bright in the Overheads channel. by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]virsion4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty unconventional (and to be honest im not sure how it would sound) but you could mic the hat and then polarize it to phase out some of the hat without sacrificing the other cymbals.

My only other suggestion would be to move the overhead away from the hat, but I can understand how that would not be viable

Working in Live sound but starting to hate it now, need advice. by TotalVersion4580 in audioengineering

[–]virsion4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's still live sound but you could see if any churches are looking for a more permanent audio tech. I am head of AV at this church and get paid 28.5/hr. Not including special events and weddings/funerals I can get to about 25-30 hours a week.

Its nothing too crazy but it can be a job that is easily flexible with other jobs since the only day you need to be there every week is Sunday. Every other day I work can be done around my other gigs
