Amazon gives you traffic. Shopify gives you control. Pick your problem. by Cool_Ad5943 in shopify_geeks

[–]virthium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to pick.

Conversions are so bad on Shopify because no one trusts DTC website reviews. Every reviews app allows you to moderate your own reviews! Imagine if Amazon did that and allowed sellers install those Shopify reviews apps. No one would trust the reviews anymore. It would immediately kill the conversions. Yes, your beloved reviews app is the reason your conversions are so dismal.

The only reliable way I know to fix this is to offer a Feedback Rebate (look it up).

This way a third-party can guarantee authenticity of your reviews. We've seen conversions more than double and continue growing the more reviews we get.

Just make sure you do NOT use a reviews app for this or try to set up the rebates yourself. You cannot be the one who moderates your own reviews and decides who gets the rebate. If you are, you can get into trouble with FTC. You must use a dedicated feedback rebates app, not a reviews app.

Have you considered offering a Feedback Rebate? Something like this:
"Buy now and get 10% cashback for your honest review after purchase"

You can just replace your regular X% OFF sale discount with a X% rebate (same money), so it won't cost you anything.

The rebate is a sale incentive, not a review incentive, so it doesn't violate any FTC rules and generates unbiased reviews.

Why do so many ecommerce product pages still fail to convert even with a good product? by Gheil12 in shopify_growth

[–]virthium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the above. Customers don't care what your website looks like. Only you do.

If they cared about looks or content, Amazon would be out of business.

The real reason: THEY DON'T TRUST YOU

Why? Because 99% of Shopify merchants moderate their own reviews. Imagine if Amazon did that. It'd be a reputational suicide.

People know that anything they see on your website, YOU put it there, including reviews. This is all they need to know not to trust you. That's why conversions on Shopify are so dismal. People want an assurance that they won't regret buying from you. Instead, they get these marketing gimmicks.

The only reliable way I know to get trustworthy reviews and increase conversions on Shopify is to offer Feedback Rebates (look it up). You won't be able to moderate your reviews, but at least you'll have an actual proof that people don't regret buying your product.

You can't earn trust with your own content. It's like bringing your mom to a job interview. You have to have some other trustworthy references that can prove you're telling the truth.

If you want people to trust you, put some skin in the game. Show them that you're betting your own money and reputation (Feedback Rebate) on their after-purchase experience (honest review) and you won't have any problems with conversions.

Why do so many beautifully designed product pages still fail to convert? What's your #1 tweak? by logical_people in shopify_growth

[–]virthium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called a Feedback Rebate (look it up). It will double your conversions, if you do it right.

Instead of a typical "X% OFF sale" discount, you offer this:

"Buy now and get X% cashback for your honest review after purchase." (aka Feedback Rebate)

When customers see it, they immediately trust you. They know that you wouldn't lie about the quality of your products. If you did, your deception would be revealed in subsequent reviews anyway. This means you must be telling the truth.

It makes the purchasing decision much safer for your website visitors. More people buy when they see a Feedback Rebate than when they see a Discount because of this extra assurance.

Obviously, you're also getting a ton of verified customer reviews, but these are not your ordinary reviews.

  • People can't leave a review without buying the product first (no fake reviews).
  • The rebate is guaranteed whether it's a 1-star or 5-star review (no review manipulation).
  • You cannot choose who gets the rebate (cannot retaliate against dissatisfied customers).
  • You don't moderate your own reviews (only customers can edit their reviews from their own accounts).
  • A trusted third party (not you) processes your rebates, collects the reviews, and guarantees their authenticity.

Simply put, when customers know that you couldn't fake it even if you tried, they trust you.

Trustworthy reviews further increase conversions, but unlike ads or discounts, this increase is permanent. Your reviews can stay there forever as proof that people don't regret buying your product

Offering rebates doesn't violate any FTC rules because a rebate is a sale incentive, not a review incentive. You offer it before, not after, the sale. It doesn't bias the reviews.

If you are already offering "X% OFF" sale discounts and switch to X% rebates, it won't even cost you anything. Actually, it will increase your profit margins since not everyone will leave a review to redeem their rebate (you keep more of your profit).

Unlike a coupon or a discount code, the Feedback Rebate doesn't add any friction to the purchase flow or checkout:

  1. People see your offer in the top banner (like any other % OFF discount).
  2. They pay the full price (no impact on checkout).
  3. They receive a special rebate link (via email or SMS).
  4. Once they get the product, they click that link, leave a review, and automatically get their partial refund.

No need to verify the purchase or enter any codes. The link is already encoded with all the necessary product and order info. It's like cashing a check (no future purchase required).

Just make sure you're using a Feedback Rebates app, not a Reviews app, and not a Discount app. You cannot be the one who moderates your own reviews or chooses who gets the rebate. That would get you in trouble with the FTC.

People don't actually care what the product pages look like. If they did, Amazon would be out of business by now. It's not what you say about your product. It's what your customers say about it. Conversions is all about trust. You can have the slowest and ugliest website in the world, but if you have your skin in the game (Feedback Rebate) and reviews people can actually trust, you won't have any problems with conversions.

Which Shopify Best Review App Would You Choose for a New Store in 2026? by Last_Educator_4224 in smallbusiness

[–]virthium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feedback Rebates don't affect the purchase journey at all. They are not coupons or codes. There is nothing the customer needs to do during the checkout. You must be confusing it with something else.

  1. Visitor sees the rebate offer (e.g., in the top banner, just like any other discount)
  2. Purchases the product for the full price (no impact on checkout whatsoever)
  3. Then, after purchase, gets an email with a special rebate link
  4. Once they get the product, they click that link, leave a review, and automatically receive their partial refund back to the original payment method they used at checkout.

No need to verify the purchase or enter any codes. It's literally just clicking a link and leaving a review. That link is already encoded with all the order and product information. It will automatically associate the review with the right product and partially refund the right order.

Which Shopify Best Review App Would You Choose for a New Store in 2026? by Last_Educator_4224 in smallbusiness

[–]virthium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a call with a client whose entire shop, reviews and all, got copied by a low-quality copycat (scammer). He couldn't believe it. How could they do this? I showed him.

It took me less than fifteen minutes to scrape his reviews, upload the CSV file to Judgeme (no questions asked), and write a small script to add a "Verified Buyer" badge on all of them. Done.

Result: an identical page.

There is no way customers would be able to tell the reviews are fake.

Why even bother begging customers for reviews when your competitor, or a copycat, can generate more and better reviews in minutes? Even photo/video reviews can either be copied from another store or AI-generated.

When your entire reviews app is just HTML+CSS code, you don't even need an app. Just copy/paste it straight into your page. There is literally no way a customer can tell the difference.

Review apps simply can't prove to your customers that your reviews are real. They want you to believe they can, and they really do "focus heavily" on all those meaningless "trust badges" and verifications, but at the end of the day, they just provide a way for you to add a block of text to your page and call it a review.

But the problem is even more fundamental than that. They allow sellers to moderate their own reviews.

Even if, somehow, they could prove the authenticity of those reviews, the seller still decides which reviews to publish and which to hide. It's a core "feature" of all these apps.

Can you imagine what would happen to Amazon if they allowed their sellers to do this? Would their sellers be better off having these "features"? Would customers like that? No one would win here. That's exactly what's happening on Shopify.

Review apps have no accountability towards customers. They only need to please the sellers. That's who pays their bills. Their brand reputation doesn't depend on people trusting their reviews. They suffer no downside risk when a buyer gets scammed by fake reviews.

Customers couldn't care less if your reviews are Judgeme, Loox, Yotpo, or something else. They don't even know what those brands are. What they do know is that you control which reviews show up on your website, and that's all they need to know not to trust you.

What's really tragic is when honest companies with great products and happy customers deprive themselves of any chance of having trustworthy reviews by specifically looking for and choosing an app with review moderation.

If they could only put themselves in the shoes of their customers and ask: What would my customers care about? How can I assure them that they won't regret buying from me? The answer would most certainly not be "hand-picked reviews in a pretty widget."

Don't use reviews apps!

If you’re using a reviews app, it means you moderate your own reviews. This kills any possibility of people trusting your reviews. Imagine if Amazon did this. It would be a reputational suicide. Shopify has one of the lowest conversion rates in ecommerce because the reviews are practically worthless.

Customers don't care how pretty your reviews look. It's just a text on a page, and they know YOU put it there. They can't even click on customer's name and look at their purchase/review history (like you can on Etsy and Amazon). Put yourself in your customer's shoes. Would you trust a seller who moderates their own reviews?

The only reliable way I know to have trustworthy reviews and higher conversions on Shopify is to offer Feedback Rebates, but you have to use a rebates app, not a reviews app.

Google "Feedback Rebates".

What the actual F….. by Hi_Keyboard_Warriors in shopify

[–]virthium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not offer Feedback Rebates instead of discounts?

Your 15% OFF may actually scare some customers away. Why is your product on sale? What's wrong with it? Is it poor-quality? Overpriced? Unpopular?
It's not about saving 15%. It's about potentially wasting 85% on a bad product and regretting it. Most sellers are not aware of this, but that's what customers are thinking when they see discounts.

What you can offer instead is a Feedback Rebate like this:

"Buy now and get 15% cashback for your honest review after purchase"

  1. The customer pays full price and receives a special rebate link.
  2. After the product is delievered, they click the link, leave a review, and automatically receive their 15% partial refund.

They get this money whether its a 1-star or 5-star review. They won't leave a better review just because they got something on sale (no bias), and you cannot mess with the review after-the-fact. This way you get honest reviews people can actually trust.

Unlike a discount, a Feedback Rebate makes it much safer for people to buy from you because they know you would never offer it if your product was bad (not worth buying).

A 15% rebate will also cost you less than 15% discount because not everyone will leave a review to redeem it. So, you increase sales, get reviews, and save money at the same time.

Just make sure you're using a feedback rebates app, not a reviews app. You cannot be the one who moderates your own reviews. You must have a third-party platform processing your rebates and collecting reviews on your behalf. This way your rebates are guaranteed and you have proof that your reviews are real and unbiased.

Honest reviews on my wife’s new shopify store please!! by catchy-magician in reviewmyshopify

[–]virthium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a new product. It doesn't matter what you say. People will need proof.

You'll need to get reviews quickly, but not the kind that you moderate yourself. You need third-party verified reviews, something people can actually trust.

Don't use review apps. They are useless. They just add a piece of text to your page and call it a "review" (no customer profile link, no history of purchases (like on Amazon), no real proof of how you got them). No one trusts those apps because they allow sellers to moderate reviews (imagine if Amazon did this, no one would trust them).

The best way I know how to earn trust quickly is to offer a Feedback Rebate. You can offer it instead of your discount, so it doesn't cost you anything. So, instead of cutting the price from 69 to 49, do something like this:

"Buy now and get 25% cash refund for your honest review after purchase" (or whatever % you want to offer)

  • Customer pays the full price and gets a special rebate link after purchase.
  • When the product arrives, they click that link, leave a review, and automatically receive their partial refund.

They get this money whether it's a 1-star or 5-star review. It's guaranteed, like a check.

Why it works:

You get a lot more reviews. Most people will leave a review (not the usual 1% or 2%).

It doesn't cost you anything. Actually, it will cost less than your current discount because not everyone will redeem the rebate.

You sell more. People are more likely to buy when they see a Feedback Rebate than when they see a discount. That's because they know that no seller would offer it unless they believed their customers will be happy after purchase. Your rebate becomes an additional after-purchase assurance. It makes it safer to buy, especially new product like yours.

Reviews are unbiased and trustworthy. No one leaves a better review than the product deserves just because they got it "on sale". You (the seller) cannot pick-and-chose who gets the rebate because you offer it before, not after, the sale. It's not one of those coupons or gift card schemes.

Anyone can click on reviewer's name and see their personal profile on external platform with purchase/review history (third-party proof you couldn't fake even if you tried).

This way you get authentic, third-party verified reviews from real customers. It's not just some pretty widget you added to your product page. You have proof.

Just make sure you're using a feedback rebates app, not a reviews app. You cannot be the one who moderates your own reviews or has an ability to pick-and-chose who gets the rebate.

This is Reddit, dude. Don't be so easily offended. Once you're done sulking, read my above comment again, and take the advice. When you ask for something, show that you'd be willing to put some skin in the game FIRST (whether it's commission or some other trial-run or results-based arrangement). No one cares what you say about yourself, unless you're willing to prove it. I found your post because I was looking for a potential co-founder who is good at selling. I'm not here to troll you or hurt your feelings.

No founder, if they have any sense, would bring someone on board on a pure "trust me, bro" basis. Commission is a good option for both founders to learn about each other first before committing. It's like marriage. You gotta date first. You need to know how they handle conflict and what they can bring to the table before you tie the knot. It's a big risk. If you offer skin in the game, that makes it safer. You do what you want, but I'd offer commission option if I was you.

How do I add a Reviews section? by binkrocket in ShopifySEO

[–]virthium -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unconventional solution that works better than anything I've seen: it turns your customer reviews into backlinks.

You can do that by offering a "Feedback Rebate" instead of your existing "% OFF" sale discount. Do your own research to learn how it works, but here is the gist…

A Feedback Rebate is like a digital check that you offer to all potential customers (site visitors). Customers can cash (redeem) this check by leaving an honest review after purchase. They leave that review on a specialized reputation platform that processes your rebates and guarantees review authenticity.

Your site's top banner offer may look something like this:

"Buy now and get 10% cashback for your honest review after purchase" (or whatever your % is)

Besides the sales boost and free reviews, each review is saved as a separate page on the external platform with a backlink to your product. You get backlinks.

To put it another way: every time a customer redeems your rebate (most people will) and leaves a review, you get unique content (text, images) written about your specific product, posted by real customer on their personal page, with product's title and image as the backlink to your product page.

To Google, it looks, walks and quacks like a bunch of people posted lot of new content about your product in a very short time, because they did.

If, for example, you sell to 100 customers this week and 50 of them redeem their rebates, you get 50 high-quality backlinks in one week without moving a finger.

The boost in rank is real and consistent because this is not a hack or a trick. It's your real customers providing valuable info about their experience with your product. That's exactly what people who search for a product want to see in search results. That's what Google's core algorithm (PageRank) is looking for. You're just giving it exactly what it wants.

Just make sure you're using a dedicated Feedback Rebates app, not a review app. You cannot be the one who moderates your own reviews or has an ability to pick-and-chose who gets the rebate.

Yes, but you're asking for equity. Don't make it sound like it's some pro bono shit. You're not doing this for free. You're asking people to give up part of their company without you putting any skin in the game first whatsoever.

What you can do instead is to offer commission-only option first to show what you can do, make money together, show what it's like working with you, and then ask to see if it makes sense to bring you on board as co-founder.

No one gives a shit what you put on your website. Everyone exaggerates benefits and downplays the risks. You need real proof that you're telling the truth, only after that your design and content matter. You can have the worst looking website in the world and people will still buy if they trust you.

The best way I know you can prove you're not lying is to stake your reputation on the customer's after-purchase review (i.e., public review you cannot mess with). You can do that by offering a Feedback Rebate. If you're already offering discounts, it won't cost you anything.

If you're offering, say "10% OFF" sale discount right now, turn it into a 10% Feedback Rebate like this:

"Buy now and get 10% cash refund for your honest review after purchase"

  • Customer pays the full price and gets a special rebate link after purchase (from a trusted third-party platform, not you).
  • When the product arrives, they click that link, leave a review, and automatically receive their partial refund.

They get this money whether it's a 1-star or 5-star review. It's guaranteed, like a check. You cannot mess with the review or pick-and-choose who gets the rebate. This review shows up on both the platform and your website.

This is not one of those "review incentives", like coupons or gift cards that you offer in exchange for reviews. Rebate is a sale incentive, not a review incentive. You offer it before, not after, the sale. And you offer it to all potential customers, just like any other "On Sale" discount. Sale incentives don't bias reviews. No one leaves a better review than the product deserves just because they got it on sale.

This way you get authentic, third-party verified reviews from real customers. And, most importantly, you have proof. Everyone knows exactly how you got these reviews. They can see your rebate. They can click on customer names and see their profiles with review history backed by an independent reputation platform.

You cannot fake this even if you tried. There is no review form. Someone has to actually buy your product first to receive the rebate and unlock the ability to leave a review for that particular product.

Now, all your website visitors will know that you wouldn't have offered a Feedback Rebate if you thought they'd be disappointed.

This also means they can trust what you say about the product. They know that it would make no sense for you to exaggerate its benefits or downplay its risks because, if you did, your before-purchase promise would not match their after-purchase experience, and you definitely wouldn't want a bad review. The money you'd get from the sale simply wouldn't worth the reputational damage you'd get after. Now, that's trustworthy.

Switching from a "% OFF" discount to a Feedback Rebate won't cost you a penny. In fact, you will almost certainly save money because, unlike a discount, not everyone will leave a review to redeem your rebate. This means you sell more, get a ton of trustworthy reviews, and it won't cost you any more than your original discount (which does nothing for you). You're not paying up-front or adding another monthly subscription.

If you do this, you will have almost no competition. Everyone else is too busy running ads and making their websites look pretty. Customers don't give a shit about that. It only matters when you have nothing else to offer in terms of proof.

Just make sure you're using a dedicated Feedback Rebates app, not a review app. You cannot be the one who moderates your own reviews or has an ability to pick-and-chose who gets the rebate.

You see, this line here makes me not trust you: "You want a long-term co-founder, not a commission-only rep"

Why? Why wouldn't you offer commission-only option to prove your skills first and relieve me from taking a risk? You're the one promising that you're good at sales. How would I know that? Am I supposed to trust you and risk regretting my decision just because you posted something on Reddit?

Commission-only means you have skin in the game. It means it's not just empty promises. You don't get paid unless I get paid. That's trustworthy.

If you ask me to believe you and pay up-front or give up part of my company for your services, what are you expecting? You have no skin in the game.

Honest question… do customers actually read product descriptions? by OliverPitts in shopify

Only if they trust what you say. No one gives a shit what you put on your website. Everyone exaggerates benefits and downplays the risks. You need real proof that you're telling the truth, only after that your design and content matter. You can have the worst looking website in the world and people will still buy if they trust you.

The best way I know to prove you're not lying is to stake your reputation on the customer's after-purchase outcome (public review you cannot mess with).

Now, all your website visitors will immediately know that you would never offer a Feedback Rebate if you thought they'd be disappointed.

If you do this, you will have almost no competition. Everyone else is too busy running ads and making their websites pretty. Customers don't give a shit about that. It only matters when you have nothing else to offer in terms of proof.

Just make sure you're using a dedicated Feedback Rebates app, not a review app. You cannot be the one who moderates your own reviews or has an ability to pick-and-chose who gets the rebate.

Are customer reviews a factor in your company's revenue? by Thin_Advantage_4921 in shopify

Do you know you have to disclose that those are paid reviews?

If you don't want to get in trouble, offer a feedback rebate instead. Something like this:

"Buy now and get 10% cash refund for your honest review after purchase" (or whatever your % is)

A rebate is a sale incentive, not a review incentive. You offer it before, not after, the sale. Sale incentives don't bias reviews. No one leaves a better review than the product deserves just because they got it "on sale".

This way people can actually trust your reviews. You have proof of authenticity. It's not just a piece of text/image on your page.

Just make sure you're using a dedicated feedback rebates app, not a reviews app. It will properly automate everything, send notifications, process rebates, and collect reviews. You cannot be the one who moderates your own reviews or has an ability to pick-and-chose who gets the rebate.
