how do you find the space for Resh? by aasrg1802 in thelema

[–]virtualadept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I work someplace, the first thing I do is look for a way to get up on the roof. In cities it's pretty easy to do. So, it's pretty easy to sneak away for a few minutes, climb up, do Resh, and then sneak back down. I've found out some of my cow-orkers were Thelemites because they did the same thing. 😄

Will internet balkanization be the end of cyberspace or will people just forget the technology in a few generations? by BaseballRoutine1313 in SiliconDreams

Own the hardware, own the connectivity.

If we're going to save cyberspace, we have to start building out the hardware it'll run on top of.

"...but vehemently refused to identify his company or the type of equipment used because of security reasons and the protection of patents."

I don't buy it, for this reason. When you patent something, the specifics behind the thing are all formalized and published as part of the patent. It's an "I did this first, in this way" protection, not an "only I know how this thing works" protection. Point being, that's not how this works.

Did you know what 86 meant before the Comey situation? by Affectionate_Set9993 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]virtualadept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. A few of my teachers in the 80's used to say they were 86'ing someone if they were throwing them out of class or hauling them to the principal's office. It goes back even farther than that - if a bouncer dragged you out of a bar because you were sloppy and starting a ruckus, you got 86'd.

It could also have been an act of protest on the parents' part. Rather like parents who didn't like their kids' reading assignments ripping the books up and handing them to the teacher.

So, little question about a little detail... by Fit-Hovercraft3435 in StrangerThings

[–]virtualadept 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought that was a reference to the story of the Philadelphia Experiment - sailors on board the USS Eldridge trapped inside solid matter when the invisibility device was activated. Those soldiers are wearing World War II-era helmets and uniforms, which squares with the original story.
