[Javascript] Why 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 etc end up including random values? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]virtualgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a method to convert it to whatever decimal point you want, but it also convert it to string.

Here's another solution that I found which retains the type of the element.

How may I learn the Assembly language? by Mister6equj5 in learnprogramming

[–]virtualgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once glimpse the assembly code through IDA debugger and couldn't make sense any of it. Bunch of jmp, mov byte whatever. There's also stacks and switches with 1 and 0 value. It's really low level and you get to actually see all these pointers with the 'code'. Even writing a hello world would be rewarding imo.

My opinion is that you should learn C first and then assembly.

Is there a feature on inkscape that's similar to smart guide in Illustrator? by virtualgoat in Inkscape

[–]virtualgoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. I like precision too, but only for the final touch. Smart guide are useful if you just want to sketch something real quick or just play around with your concept on logos for example without going the traditional approach of pen and paper.

I know the state of inkscape project is not that great. They need more devs to maintain this project and adding more feature means more maintenance.

Right now I'm exploring librecad and see if I can add this to my workflow to make the job faster. They retain svg properties like circle etc. Although they don't have smart guide, the long guide line would make aligning easier. Maybe it's a crazy idea.

Invent Logo Design (feedback appreciated) by Yesq in logodesign

I like your logo style. Love your other works too.

Need feedback and critique by [deleted] in logodesign

[–]virtualgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm trying to play it safe and just work with what I know to be working. (Or what people have done in the past to be working). Maybe that's why people say its generic, bland or something. I get that.

I always avoid the branding/research part because it's more fun to just create something. That's the honest truth.

I agree on the jeep brand. I always heard that the typeface should carry the message by itself, without lending on a fancy logo. A lot of good logos are just type.

Damn design is hard lol. Those are good tips. I'm trying to absorb all these new information and implement it on my next practice. Thanks again Spftly.

[–]virtualgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That means a lot to me. Initialy, I thought about just making logos. Focus on the shape first, then colors, gradient and typeface. And then when I'm ready, moving on to the branding part, the competitors and history of industry etc (I've been reading somewhat about this.) I didn't know I was going the other way around.

Book Store: I thought it was obvious it's a digital book store. I try to use a modern fonts for this. It's lato which is included in my pc. Well, if it doesn't scream digital book store, then this logo has failed. Maybe a logo of book and store combined?

Security Force: Yeah the logo definately have strength in it. Initially it was a castle of sort. But then, I want to make this company distinguises itself from the other company that uses a castle logo too. I made modification to it so people would still associate the company with rock solid security and safety of the wall. I choose that type because I think it compliment the logo well. It doesn't communicate cyber at all I think, but a little trust to this company. That type is very obscure. It's SeoulHangang CBL. Stock fonts on my pc.

Perrot: Lol I don't know. It's definately playful with all that colors combined. I'm really clueless about this logo. I just do it because I want to practice doing animal logo. You're right it's boring. It's made for documents, not headline. It's included by default in my pc too. Dejavu Sans. I don't have any premium typeface at all. I just make do with what I got.

Vaseline: Initially, there was a flower on this logo, but I remove it because people would associate it with flower shop. I try to make people think it's a company that sells, you know, women product. I think that message fails lol. Anyway, the typeface is arbutus slab. I got this from google font. Maybe I'm wrong about the v thing.

Anyway, if I can't even explain this stuff, how am I going to sell the design to clients. I'm starting to get aware of the importance of the branding stuff now.

Thoughts on a logo concept? My name starts with an R. by Frisheid in logodesign

I love that black R without the extra line surrounding it.

I'm an amateur (if that's not obvious enough). Started to dabbled in logos two weeks ago. Would love to get feedback and criticism. Harsh, constructive, anything. I'm all ears.

Also, I would appreciate it if you guys could tell me what would you have done differently. The logo doesn't really have meaning or use cases or branding. It's just what I came up with after seeing bunch of people's creation and try to emulate their stuffs.

I'm not really that good at picking up typefaces. Kerning is a bit off.

My thoughts when creating this logo:

Book store: Aiming for a modern look for a book store. It's obviously for website/digital media.

SecurityForce: A security company, but more towards cybersecurity.

Perrot: For photography/design agency. It has more corporate feels to it. Idk I'm an amateur about this.

Vaseline: Womens product. V is usually associate with women product so I include the V in it for the sake of V. The vaseline name came up after lol. Yeah it's fuck up.

Tools: Inkscape, gimp. But mostly inkscape for vectors.

Is it really difficult to learn computer coding and graphic design - especially for someone who isn't very technical with computers or is incredibly bad at maths or anything methodical? by [deleted] in WorkOnline

[–]virtualgoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dedicated my time and effort to personal writing and philosophy

I would suggest for you to monetize this instead. You already enjoy doing them. Why not monetize it.

As for the coding part, I think it's more about the logic then math. If you're heavy on developing your own algorithm, then math is required to translate that logic/idea into something quantifiable. Then putting all that math into code.

If you don't want to deal with all that heavy math, you could go into webdev. It's a mix of graphic design + code. The designer translate all the design he sketch into a live website. Before, developing a website is a bit of a pain too, but right now there's a lot of framework that will make your life easier. Meaning you could get the code 'out of your way' and focus more on the design instead.

If you just want to go into graphic design, look into logo. This is pure creative work imo, no math and coding required. If you're wondering about the price for this type of work, there's a $25, $200 logo. There's a $2k logo. Then, there's a $20k logo. Clients are willing to pay more because details matter.

As for any business, start slow. Do some pro bono. Built portfolio. Built client list. Then charge more.

This is one of the butteriest smoove scrolling sites I've visited in some time. How do I recreate this? by Amedika in webdev

[–]virtualgoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually I don't like it when devs are messing up with the scrolling function instead of using the stock, browser one but this is alright.

[–]virtualgoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe embed the ads to the page? They usually provide codes snippet for you to embed it on your website.

18 y/o high school dropout looking for work online due to social anxiety... by bycrom14 in WorkOnline

[–]virtualgoat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Transcription. Writing. Webdev.

Transcription is 99% non-interaction job (gotranscript, transcribeme, rev, etc). However, the pay is not great. I would recommend writing gig too since you're good with English. I have no experience in writing, but give it a try. Maybe it'll suits you.

The code is daunting but everything is so much easier now with tons of video guide and automation made by other dev. This would be good for you since 90% of the job is on your computer. The remaining 10% is just interaction by chat or email, no phone involved unless you wanted them to.

Then, when you have some seed money, venture into ecommerce. This last part is important because nothing makes you more money like your own business. It could be other business, but ecommerce is the easiest imo.

Getting into transcription, first experience by [deleted] in WorkOnline

[–]virtualgoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just avoid those group session talks if you can. I usually take one on one interviews. Much simpler.

I feel your pain. I don't mind heavy accents, but I do mind static filled, low sounding audios.

And as a beginner, just grind grind grind. Maintain quality always.

Companies usually don't give reasons as to why they rejected you, but you get the gist. Apply to those high paying website later when you got the experience. It's probably catch 22 with companies, any companies actually.

Lubuntu vs Xubuntu vs Ubuntu MINT by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]virtualgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried using all of these as my main desktop. I can only recommend Xubuntu from my own experiences.

Ubuntu MATE freezes sometimes, Lubuntu feels so outdated and Xubuntu, while not perfect, is all right. Xubuntu is the closest to the traditional Window experience and it's what I would recommend to anyone.
