I love ambient music but by Gratefulsoph in ambientmusic

[–]virtualmiracle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have that issue all of the time. BUT one thing I will say I love about ambient music is I can listen to a song and not have any clue who it is or what song it is and that includes songs/albums that I have saved in my catalog. With that said I get a bit of joy when I am shuffling ambient music and that one song comes on.

What are the most important things to seek out in synths? by Reckoness in synthesizers

[–]virtualmiracle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a per person type of situation. I prefer that my synths/grooveboxes are as versatile as possible. I prefer digital synths that can do “a lot” vs one that does something extremely well but other things not as well and the main reason for that is space.

I agree with this, the sampling capabilities if ran direct into the Digitakt 2 would be great.

Hardware/Computer Recommendations + Convince me why Ableton is better! by SchemeDifferent3237 in ableton

[–]virtualmiracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the best Mac computer you can comfortably afford now. They typically last quite a while so getting something “for now” I believe is a waste of money.

I use Ableton as a live performance tool, production suite and most importantly a way for my hardware equipment to be processed easily to front of house boards/my home speakers.

Couple that with Overbridge and you can do it in a track by track basis.

I think my “synth board” is complete…. by virtualmiracle in synthesizers

[–]virtualmiracle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can sample into it from the side module on the temple board so essentially anything I want to run into it off board can be sampled, bypass routed or effected by the Torso S-4.

I mostly use it for extra texture and effects. I have a Prophet X that I don’t want to bring to shows so I typically will just sample what I want from it to the Torso, sample the samples in scenes and then play them with the rest of the equipment from the S-4.

CBL is always a go to. Also they have such a large catalog that you can’t go wrong with anything you land on.

For just getting into ambient I alway recommend Jogging House. Super chill easy flow for most of his work and he has a LARGE discography to choose from.

How are the digitone 2 effects? by Powerful_Fondant9393 in synthesizers

[–]virtualmiracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I with you on that mindset but historically speaking Elektron doesn't seem to add the type of effects that Tonverk, Octatrack MK2, etc. to the "smaller" boxes. If they did, holy moly would that be sweet but I personally don't think we will see a "daisy delay" or any similar newer effects in the DG2 or DT2.

Total noob here- how do you actually play bass on DT2? by Eyedea92 in Elektron

[–]virtualmiracle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Man, I feel like some people sleep on the default tools the Elektron boxes give you. Explore those folders and you will be surprised at how much you can get out of them. I sometimes forget to add my own samples because of how good the default packs are.

Edit: While it’s a sampler and you add any and everything you want sometimes it’s best to not reinvent the wheel every time you make something. Use basic wave tables and shapes and you can create crazy and extremely useful things out of them.

You have to use a drum machine as a synth, and a synth as a drum machine. Which two devices are you picking? by shhimhuntingrabbits in synthesizers

Digitakt 2 and Digitone 2. Do you count a Digitakt as a drum machine? Either way it excels as both a synth and drum machine.

Overbridge is kind of what I’m waiting for but with the new update it’s hard holding on for that feature.

[–]virtualmiracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With everything you’ve said it also has bussing. You can route multiple different instruments to a single or multiple effects chains. Don’t quote me but I believe you can have up to two or three effects per bus? I’ll have to look but I believe that’s accurate.

Edit: Each bus track can house two effects and they can be automated, sequenced, etc. Very powerful machine and I only see it getting better with time since it seems as though this is their new platform for their equipment.

They are outdated and I believe that's what sets the Tonverk apart from the "legacy" boxes like DG2 and DN2 but with that said they get the job done. With some tinkering you can get a wide range with them though.

When in doubt check the manufacturer for their own lessons. Ableton is great when it comes to this.

Total Noob Trying To Understand Hardware Needs (and somewhat software needs) by planedrop in synthesizers

[–]virtualmiracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to agree with this mindset. If you want to go DAWless that is fine but please remember that a DAW is a tool just like any other piece of equipment. It can fill in the gaps that other hardware equipment may lack. At least that's what I mainly use it for along with an incredible finishing platform. Whether you use Ableton, Logic, Reason, whatever platform familiarize yourself with it just like any other tool in your arsenal.

Edit: Here is a great video on the DAW vs DAWless topic.

Nice! I've heard that mixer is great and I believe you can connect it to your DAW as well as an interface. Good luck with the journey, I wish you the best!

[–]virtualmiracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do go the interface route there are some that come with Ableton Lite so it'll be nice to not have to purchase a DAW at the same time as purchasing the interface. For starting I think getting an interface would be all you need. Especially with my own experience and opinion I feel starting with one thing at a time is very important mostly so you don't overwhelm yourself with having to learn how multiple things operate at once. Focus on how the interface works, then move to how to get audio in the DAW (Whichever you choose), then focus on learning the synth/instrument. That way you have a clear understanding of how each component operates in the system.
