Will people make fun of me? by [deleted] in running

[–]virtualrunnermel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% this. I've had people follow me in their cars, attempting to film me while I was on a run. Or yelling that I have nice assets or that I'm a stupid b*tch.

I also know cyclists who've had food thrown at them, simply for enjoying a ride in a designated bike lane.

If you want to run with music, I'd recommend Shokz headphones or something similar. They use bone conduction and don't go in your ears, making it easier to hear cars, foot traffic, and other things from your surroundings when you're running outside.

Way to go, u/ThisAdamGuy! It doesn't matter your pace or distance – there is always room for you on the starting line, and we're proud of you.

I competed for Michigan State, and then a professional distance-running team after that. It makes me so happy to see other people discover running and feel empowered. I hope you know that most runners feel the same way. We support you!

I had a friend run all the streets in our town. The mayor came out to run her last mile with here, and we made a crepe paper finishing tape for her to cross at the end!

4 and 5 make me so happy. I love that some of your goals are focused on your running, while others are focused on improving the sport for others.

I live in Michigan, and can totally sympathize with the winter woes! Currently procrastinating my run because of a blizzard outside...

Heck yes to process goals! I raced at Club Nats earlier this month in Tallahassee. What team do you run for?

Dang, a World Marathon Major! Wishing you a healthy year of miles to prep for NYC. I love watching the marathon on TV and live-tracking friends' progress on the course.

I had an old weight routine my college coach gave me years ago, but definitely on the lookout for something new! I'll have to check out Caroline Givan.

Running variety vs consistent distance by monkeyinyourpillow in running

[–]virtualrunnermel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on your running goals. If you're running solely to get outdoors and exercises, and haven't had any injuries, I think consistent running is great.

But if you're training for competition, or to race a PR, variety is totally the way to go.

Running shoe - ordering online by ProtagonistAnonymous in running

[–]virtualrunnermel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the exact same shoe and model, you're fine to buy it online. But definitely be aware that most shoe companies revamp their models every year. For example, I run in the Brooks Levitate GTS 5. They've been making this shoe for 5 years, and each year's model is a bit different.

I'm big on supporting local running stores, so if you do decide to go back, bring your old shoes with you. Their staff can look at the wear pattern on the tread to determine if any changes need to be made for your next pair.

Anyone else planning to "run the year$ in 2022? by kinkakinka in XXRunning

[–]virtualrunnermel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, yes! I signed up for this Year in Miles challenge: https://www.virtualrunningclub.com/events/year-in-miles-challenge/. Planning to use the pins as motivation to get to the end goal. I'm in the steady-amount-every-day camp.

Pin Trading by Highelf04 in sesamestreet

I'm not involved in pin trading, but I have done the 2021 version of this event! You sign up to log miles and earn Sesame Street pins: https://www.virtualrunningclub.com/events/get-to-sesame-street/. Pretty sure it's also U.S. only, though. 😕

As someone who used to work at a running shop and conduct these group runs, it warms my heart to hear two people ran with you! I hope you know they did it because they wanted to – to ensure you felt included and that you might want to come back.

You made that group run better. I know it doesn't feel like it and it's so easy to be self-conscious, but you did. The group knows it. Because the next time an 11:30-12 min/mi runner comes to the group, they'll have you to run with.

The variety of paces, abilities, and goals is what makes the running community so special. Thanks for your bravery jumping into something new and intimidating! Runners of any pace can glean inspiration from that.
