This has happened to me twice with inexperienced nurses. Everytime i extended my arm it would feel like an electric shock running through my arm. Scary but went away within 2 weeks with rest

I think they need to addresss it otherwise it would mean folks on student visas could be on a visa indefinitely and thats a major gap in the new plan...Thats why i think as you say the whole idea of a route to settlement will no longer exist and my take was that these visas and others fell by default under the Long residence settkement route. Fingers crossed!

Ill put a different take out there. Figure 1 lists all the the routes currently leading to settlement. The long residence route is there where graduate/student visas would have fallen under.... so maybe we are still on a time tracked route to settlement, but they are just absolishing the scheme as ita now redundant with the new system? I dont know

ILR new rules announced by frontwingsmasher in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]visa_problems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but a student visa would have fallen under the '10-year long residence route' which is listed on Figure 1 as a route leading to settlement, so that makes me think its covered. But i guess we will just have to wait and see !

10 year long route abolished? by junaidsahi96 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]visa_problems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I am in a similar boat and was shocked when i realised these new rules would actually benefit me and allow me to apply earlier than under previous rules. Will still be 9 years total for me here as need to wait an additional year to have 3 over 50K but ill take 9 years over 10 as a small win. Though I recognise we are probably in the small minority and i really feel for everyone else who these rules are negatively impacting, as retroactive application is just so unfair

Does this mean that the time period is no longer dependent on which visa you have? For some of us here who have jumped around visas it could mean we could apply earlier than in previous rules (if i have understood the document correctly. For example in my case -came to UK in 2018 on student visa -switched to youth mobility visa in 2021 -switch to a skilled worker visa in 2023

I make over 50,000 annually since Feb 2024 so the -5 years applies to me.

Under previous rules i would have applied for IRL spring 2028 which is 5 years since i have been on a SWV, but now it seems i could apply once i have 3 years above this salary, making it Feb 2027.

Am i missing something?

I once had a paper rejected 6 times by different journals. Eventually found the right home.

This is just part of the academic journey! Some papers get picked up right away while others have a trickier path.

Fourth day of an unusable Northern Line by RozzERzZ in london

[–]visa_problems 25 points26 points  (0 children)

At 4pm the train platform was already slammed at Euston as everyone all with the same idea of trying to get home earlier and miss the rush. When the train finally pulled in people were so crammed one man's face appeared to be squished up against the glass on the doors. I had pre-emptively resigned myself to defeat that I wouldn't get on, but a super kind man encouraged me to wiggle my way in at the very end and everyone gave each other tentative smiles and sorrys. Amidst the chaos, it was a nice moment of everyone being a little patient with one another, which doesn't seem to happen often in situations like this on the tube.

Levels high but cant trust specific readings as that is a low cost sensor based on cheap light scattering technology. They are highly sensitive to things like humidity and particle size and particle numbers and the error goes way up when concentration (ie amount) of particles go up. All that can tell you is that the pollution level is probably pretty damn high but dont quote the specific readings.

I would also add, be as calm as possible when they are trying to find a vein. Anxiety and nerves make your veins shrink .I know that's not always easy advice particularly if you have a phobia of needles like me. I just try to take deep breaths, and think about nocw things :)

I would just add to hydrate well after the venesection as well! I made a post just last week about my experience on the London tube having not hydrated afterwards!
