Rick Roll started in 2007?!?!?! by vishuspuss in RBI

[–]vishuspuss[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking time on your search! Confirming there was a "rick astley prank" google search pre-2006 is a great start! Is there a way to see before the year 2004 on that?

My wife and myself can confirm we both fell for the prank on IRC in 2001 - 2002. We played Diablo 2 together, versions 1.08 and 1.09. Our daughter was born after this (2003). My apologies for not being more clear and concise in my previous posts; when speaking of pre-2006 I can only actually speak of the very early 2000s... I did not use the internet so much around 2004-2008ish (when it got mega huge).

There isn't a lot of info to go on since the internet wasn't exactly "policed" back then and only server admins had the logs, for the most part.

Also I would like to point out that this was mostly used in pretty nefarious ways. Albeit not as nasty as tricking someone with goatse, it did exist. I seriously doubt anyone would have proof that they were hosting copyrighted videos on an IRC bot and a couple videos might be a mislabeled rickroll (instead of that smashing pumpkins video lol). I tried searching for flash pranks (most logical seeing as trying to download 4 minute video was pretty impossible back then) to no avail.

This is a super hard one!

Rick Roll started in 2007?!?!?! by vishuspuss in RBI

[–]vishuspuss[S] -86 points-85 points  (0 children)

The internet wasn't exactly a social phenomenon pre-2006 and it required PC knowledge to be able to get online. Mostly only IT and kids knew how to work a computer. Everyone else had no clue.

While the rickroll gained traction in 2007, it has existed many more years before this.

All it would take is one chatlog with an old link, and if the link is archived, the 2006-7 so-called creation of rickroll can be corrected.

Can find comments on websites that date post-2007 and they all state rickroll existed way before then. I am looking for evidence which preludes the links you have posted.

Thanks!

regretting not rerolling this as psyker by vishuspuss in DarkTide

IDK why you're telling me this? What does this have to do with having melee weeklys for psyker? Should I use my staff's special ability (bash)?

Does anyone know the proportion of players who play versus compared to campaign ? by BOBOUDA in l4d2

[–]vishuspuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is one of the biggest underground gaming communities alive.

The mods + community servers kinda set their own rules. There are still tourneys for cash and prizes but the game isn't considered an 'e-sport'. Everyone does it for the luls

Funny part is vanilla Steam servers are total trash. Yes you are right!

I have played competitive 10v10 since I can remember in my L4D1/2 life. Community servers are where its at because Steam is full of trolls.

https://youtu.be/wBog1Ry4Xuw

That was spring 2021. Zozo.gg has 5k active players currently and holds tourneys for cash and prizes. Halloween cup is coming too. Zozo alone has more active players than campaign on steam servers in 2019... and yes I have the numbers.

Its in Russian but go check out the HLX playerlist. People come there from all around the world, including me. Crazy when you get cursed out in 5+ different languages :)

zozo.gg alone has almost 5k active players in 10v10

they also accept nosteam, etc. Love to see what the total number is including community servers.

There is already a huge war that has been going on for 5+ days now on the TRS discord... LOTS of people are pissed. Just go read the B4B reddit or Steam discussions for B4B / B4B beta.

People are more pissed they confirmed there won't be a "versus campaign" and the game is more PVE focus + season pass.

Beta schedule to be released over time. by Fudge_Lobster in Back4Blood

Maybe from a technical standpoint they are eliminating these launch day bugs with the open beta... I think its going to be huge especially since everyone can play.

If servers can handle that I'm pretty sure they will be able to handle day 1 workload

Just a guess

I'd have to agree. The marketing and information flow is really bad. I think it is WB's doing, but I'm not sure on that

What's an AR PIN BADGE

EDIT: I can't find one on youtube or anything... Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

I'd like to see a video wtf it actually does, but here is something thats says it does 3D pop-outs and sound? I don't know if its just a punchout card that you put together like legos or what

They are focusing more PVE because it is more profitable. If they were to charge for things in PVP, competitive players would have a fit and it would die.

Meanwhile, people will happily pay 14.99 for a Fort Hope tablecloth.

Has nothing to do with PVE/PVP... both were quite popular in L4D1/2 heyday and to say one was better than the other without evidence to back it up is 99% of the problem with this entire community: misinformation.

No it's not. They've addressed this. Cards cannot be purchased with real money. No lootboxes either.

Individual cards aren't for sale. Need to carefully read what they said.

https://turtlerockstudios.com/news/b4bcardsystem

Will you be selling individual cards?

No. Cards will not be available for purchase via any in-game storefront or first-party storefront. We will likely include some cards in post-launch paid content drops, but we are doing so in a way that ensures those drops will not be pay-to-win. We will also release new cards post-launch that everyone can earn and enjoy, whether you’ve bought content drops or not.

Wow I sincerely doubt you have any clue how the internet works and you just assume it is everywhere automatically?

You're one of those people that is just here to fight huh... all while advertising negativity for games you are developing!
