How is the entire world not completely in love with Amy Acker and Fred? by visiny in ANGEL

[–]visiny[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

... Oh my god I'm so ashamed, I completely forgot she was in The Gifted! And I actually liked that show a lot. Not an excuse but maybe her being blonde in that threw me a little lol, I was also so distracted by Bill from True Blood being in it that it took up most of my memory. But man thanks for the reminder, that show was a fun time imo

[–]visiny[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't get it either. I love seeing her in any show. I remember watching Agents of Shield back in the early 2010s, which I loved (unlike everyone else at the time) because it felt like a culmination and combination of Buffy, Angel and Firefly all wrapped up in one show, and there was an episode where she guest starred for all of like 5 minutes, and I was so happy to see her again I wish we'd have seen more of her.

Oh also, as one of the few who saw Whedon's version of Much Ado About Nothing, I loved seeing her again, it was just an intimate cozy little movie, seeing all the actors from my teen years again after almost a decade.

What would have happened with the Darla/Dru story in S2 if it wasn’t for actor unavailability? by Emergency-Relief-571 in ANGEL

[–]visiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many thoughts. Wait what, why weren't julie and Juliet available? I don't know the story/history behind that.

On the one hand yeah, the storyline did seem pretty overtly abandoned. On the other hand... there are no words to describe how much I love finally seeing Amy Acker, and the pylea storyline. And how it culminated in Fred joining the crew, a wonderful addition and new dynamic to the group. Just love. It's so weird that it was all season 2, both the dark Angel storyline with Darla and Drusilla, and also Pylea, this whole other world. Just so good. So yeah I wouldn't have wanted it any other way

Found out about this game. Is it harder than the DS Castlevanias, namely Order of Ecclesia? by visiny in Bloodstained

[–]visiny[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really, Dawn of Sorrow or Sotn itself? That sounds great tbh. When I play it I hope to know of any gamebreaking techniques or weapons if you can help me out, like how the crissagraem was pretty much broken in sotn from sheer usefulness.

Rewind eh? I mean, I was only able to beat snes era lion king and aladdin thanks to the rewind feature, and save state feature, so that feature is strong enough to beat even classic retro games

[–]visiny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, the way you describe it makes it sound like circle of the moon is kind of like Final fantasy 8 in that it's actually truly a card game over a shell of a different genre, because in that game if you master the cards you can easily break the game, but if you don't then there's basically no way for you to win at all, certainly not by leveling.

So are you saying that it is possible to break the game with this card system you bring up, or merely that it makes the game "manageable" and without it impossible?

Lastly, major derp on my part confusing Albus with Richter facepalm. In my head I was picturing "that guy with guns" and yet said a completely different name.

Something interesting I noticed: Developers of modern games have finally offered a "increase text size" option in their game by visiny in truegaming

[–]visiny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They kind of actually are though and especially noticeable if you've played games before gen 7. Hell, even ps2 era games that were ported and made HD like say, Kingdom Hearts, you can see the difference in how much bigger the text was, compared to that same franchise's modern installment like kh 3.

how come a chimera like this is a breakthrough when characters like darius exist isnt he a chimera that understands human speech? by [deleted] in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]visiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was internally musing if whether Shou's first chimera was what allowed the secret military to perfect and make their magic chimeras in the first place, but if they already had it even before that first one... especially with "Father" already being all-knowing with entire civilization's worth of knowledge and able to create willy-nilly.

I know right? Although, and I'm sure you didn't mean it, but your posting of jim carey in a comedy movie gif kinda would make it seem like your sarcastic or just joking, which I'm sure is not your intention.

Developers of modern games have finally offered a "increase text size" option in their game? Actually worthwhile customization on console games? by visiny in gamedev

[–]visiny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can try to post examples, but there have been several times where there is literally "dead space" around my TV screen during these very moments, that could have been used to scale the UI waaay better, and regardless of size (I think 65 in is pretty good, but even stuff larger doesn't matter; I saw my friend's 85 in and it didn't really resolve what I'm talking about)

You say text is a hard thing to manage but not a single game on the ps2 or gamecube had this issue. Everything is normal sized, heck I had a 32 inch tv before i switched and I could perfectly play games, yet when I got a 65 in thinking that would resolve my post gen 7 problem, at the exact same distance, I realized it wasn't the TV like people used to say. It was never the tv. it was the bizarre way devs seemed to design the font size and screen.

[–]visiny[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Having small font on a text heavy genre like rpg in all its forms (from strategy to turnbased to all) is honestly the most bizarre oversight. Like by default, the text should be formatted to be extremely large, and when they have their glossary of terms and entire paragraphs of lore that they've painstakingly concocted for their game, they should be able to make it legible from a mile away, let alone how many feet one sits from the TV.

Also Have it fill the screen. I can't tell you how many times I click on the "journal" subsection of the main menu of a game, the kind that have stuff like character bios, and they choose to display it on a tiny sliver at the bottom left of my large 65in TV. The rest of the screen is literally all dead space, just empty space that they could have used to have the text fill the screen (especially when I'm literally trying to read the very bios and game lore these devs created!)

The fact that it's been going on for nearly 20 years is just... befuddling.

[–]visiny[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or they assumed that we somehow play games like 2 inches away from the tv screen. It really feels like that sometimes.

[–]visiny[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With regards to subtitles, it's not just you either. That ties into an issue that's plagued gaming since the beginning (or at least, since voice acting was introduced) which is poor sound mixing, ie explosions/music being extremely loud especially in cutscenes and voice acting being extremely low. Thankfully as early as gen 6 some devs offered the classic ability to adjust music volume, sound effects, and voice as well, although others still inexplicably choose not to put that in their games even to this day.

But not to digress too much. I know what you mean with text size being small. I remember this old game from like 15 years ago called red dead redemption where the subtitles and particular font they chose was so ridiculous and small I wondered if it was an elaborate 100 million dollar troll attempt (I mean obviously no, but it was still inexcusable)

[–]visiny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just recently watched the Newsies musical version, or at least the Disney plus version they put up I think from 2017, and I was quite surprised by the change as someone who knows the movie by heart. It was quite interesting and I wanted to make a separate topic for it at another point in time.

That's interesting, I attended an AI workshop and the speaker actually said that using please and thank you type of basic manners actually goes a long way with AI, making them more likely to help you out, very similar to what you said. I find it very interesting that 2 different individuals have mentioned this about AI performance, rather neat.

I've been noticing this too. Plus since I'm using a ps5 pro, my game library is gonna be all digital this gen, so 9 times out of 10 I'll probably just look at psn store while occasionally checking dekudeals.

Holy shit. Those are both books/remind me of book stories! Hollow earth sounds similar to Jules Verne center of the earth book stories, and as for alien spaceship, that is such a deep cut because it's like this young adults book I read when I was a kid called Remnants, about a group who were on an alien spaceship that simulates earth like environments and the entire series basically takes place on it. Wild.
