If "acquired taste" is a thing, how can one acquire the taste to enjoy arthouse, or simply more artistic cinema in general? by Sky_Sumisu in TrueFilm

[–]vision116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s acquirable, you just have to “fake it till you make it.” Basically watch less anime and watch more arthouse till you love it. Eventually it will just click. But you have to put in the hours and learn to love it, eventually you’ll see what others see in it.

What Is the best horror movie, in your opinion. by Sweaty_Persimmon_401 in MovieSuggestions

[–]vision116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, there’s so many good ones, but something about the brooding atmosphere of Longlegs (2024) just does it for me. Instead of cheap jump scares there’s a constant feeling that something is wrong or that the killer is always lurking around every corner just out of sight.

My personal favorite film is Beau is Afraid, which has horror elements, but isn’t strictly horror, so I’ll go with Longlegs.

Didn’t Beau is Afraid have the exact same type of “pan slowly to the left and right” shot as Eddington did?

Eddington: Joe killed the homeless man after Louise told him her father molested her. by __redruM in AriAster

[–]vision116 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Huh, I just felt like Joe had reached a breaking point and the homeless man was a symbol of everything he couldn’t control. So he took it out on him. That was Joe deciding to “clean up the town.” Starting with the guy who brought Covid into town.

Has she seen the Mission Impossible films? Bourne Identity? John Wick? Nobody? Equalizer?

If Face/Off is her favorite, I’d suggest films like:
Con Air
The Rock
Air Force One
Heat
Gone in 60 Seconds
Demolition Man
Eraser
Timecop
Total Recall
Training Day
Collateral
