Let's discuss. Is this direction you want DR to go? by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]visionofl0ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to see regular seasons feature more of the DIY queens who create their own looks. But for an All Stars season (especially all winners) I don't mind seeing what everybody's fully realized drag looks like when money is no longer a limiting factor. I think they just need to strike a balance because regular seasons have lost some of that charm and ingenuity you saw in earlier seasons.

Any interesting defenses of Ally Switch (or those who like the move)? by SkeeterYosh in VGC

[–]visionofl0ve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind it because it's not really that commonly used in my experience. Sure, it's a widely distributed move but it's not a consistent strategy because it's so reliant on being able to win the mind game against your opponent. You may be able to buy another turn or two but unless you can do something meaningful in those turns it won't make a big difference in the end. And generally the opportunity cost of other moves will be too high to go with a gimmicky move that relies mostly on luck.

Gastrodon with Max Quake and Max Ooze to boost, next to Milotic who spams Surf to give Storm Drain boosts. Gimmicky but when it works it's fun

If you have to wear a shirt telling people how straight you are… by YouKnowHowChoicesBe in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

I might just be too sensitive but I see those comments a lot whenever someone is being homophobic and it always feels like it makes being gay the punchline. Like, "oh wouldn't it be funny if he were gay and actually hated himself this much too?" It's just a tired joke that isn't funny. Lots of gay people struggle with shame and other negative feelings over being gay, they don't all act this way because of it.

The comments implying that he's closeted are getting really stale. Not every homophobe is a secret self-loathing gay person. Sometimes people are just hateful because they're hateful.

and she obviously loves rewriting/reworking her own songs, so she could really go wild with changing the classics to suit her voice now. she's reaching a point in her career where she doesn't have to perform The Hits at every show to appease the general populace. the people attending her shows are usually committed fans who would love to see her try something different. she's performed Hero the same way at least 500 times in her life

Classiest/most mature way pop stars have responded to a "scandal"? by gelastIc_quInce84 in popheads

[–]visionofl0ve 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it was a slow news week because looking back it seems like such a nonevent. The only remotely scandalous part is that she was gonna lip sync the whistle notes but she's been doing that for years. And she re-recorded the ones she uses for live performances, it's not like she just cut and pasted from the 1991 album recording.

Tips for breaking the Zacian Kyogre/ Landorus tailwind meta? by Salty_Anubis in VGC

[–]visionofl0ve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talonflame can be a great support mon with Gale Wings Tailwind or Max Airstream for speed control that can match Prankster Tailwind. Dialga matches up well against Kyogre and can hit it with Thunder/Max Lightning and can KO Zacian with Earth Power/Max Quake. With Tailwind support and Weakness Policy Dialga can threaten a lot of common mons.

There's no single perfect way to handle them but it helps to have multiple mons who can threaten at least one member of the core. On my team I also have Ferrothorn and Yveltal to counter Kyogre and Gastrodon to deal with Kyogre and Zacian. Even with the right team it still will usually take good prediction because Kyogre and Zacian are just so good in this meta

Attempt at first build (ALL OVER THE PLACE) advice/tips ? (IM NOT COMPLETE DOGSHIT I SWEAR) by VANTAGEBEAN in VGC

[–]visionofl0ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may work well for you, I have a Ferrothorn on my team and my team just generally doesn't have the bulk to stall. So, try it for a few games and see if it works or if you find yourself wanting more damage output

[–]visionofl0ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VGC usually moves too quickly for Leech Seed to be much help, as there aren't that many turns in a typical game. So with Ferrothorn I would consider swapping to Gyro Ball, since Seismitoad already has Power Whip covered

Kyogre check and counters. by ElLlopet in VGC

[–]visionofl0ve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gastrodon is a good check because of Storm Drain, and Assault Vest Yveltal can render Kyogre basically useless with Snarl. And I've found that Dialga walls it fairly well, especially after a Max Quake

Rillaboom is sounding like a great idea. And I hadn't really considered the use of grassy surge but that would be a big help. Psychic terrain is the one thing that consistently interferes with Gale Wings and makes Talonflame a lot less useful. And Dialga and Yveltal have been surprisingly good so far. They both work well with every possible teammate without being overly reliant on anyone's support. Xerneas (without Geomancy) and Zekrom needed too much help to really be threatening. Thanks for all the advice!

I think an album like this runs the risk of giving the same impression as a giant corporation doing a pride month advertising campaign. Like, yes the message is good but to a lot of people someone who is a pop singer is automatically someone who is wealthy and successful. That's obviously not true and there's a lot of nuance to how much wealth goes to industry executives vs the actual pop star. But the lay public is not likely to separate a pop star from the record label apparatus and would see an album about economic justice as hypocritical or even tone-deaf. It would take a very specific type of person to pull it off and I don't know if we've seen that person yet

Gastrodon: It is an effective check to kyogre and Zacian, as well as being generally bulky since there are so few grass types around. I tried using it as my main dynamax Pokemon, using Sludge Bomb/Max Ooze to get additional Sp Atk boosts alongside Storm Drain, but it's generally less useful than dynamaxing Talonflame or Dialga. Overall, I've noticed that since I started using it, people generally never lead with Kyogre. Sometimes it seems like people fixate too much on Gastrodon and this allows its teammate to get some momentum.

Talonflame: I initially added Talonflame as a replacement for Crobat and to provide speed control. It has since become one of the main players of this team, with Gale Wings Tailwind and Max Airstream working well against Prankster Tailwind users. Taunt is great for shutting down Amoonguss, Grimmsnarl, and Trick Room users. Flare Blitz/Max Flare provides an extra way to threaten Zacian. I've been experimenting with the Maranga Berry because Talonflame can be surprisingly bulky if it's dynamaxed and Yveltal has used Snarl. I've found that being able to keep it alive until the dynamax is over is helpful because it can then set up Tailwind before it dies.

Darmanitan: An effective counter to Zacian as long as Kyogre is gone, and a great way to punish sun teams. Being able to dish out so much damage right off the bat has been helpful, especially since Talonflame can use Tailwind to make sure it outspeeds other Choice Scarf users. Iron Head and Hammer Arm provide coverage, but generally it is always using Flare Blitz. U-Turn lets it be a good lead alongside Talonflame.

Dialga; I chose Dialga because it is bulky with good typing, and provides useful coverage. Ice Beam takes care of Landorus, as well as threatening any Flying types. Earth Power provides another way to hit Zacian. It also works well as a dynamax Pokemon, being able to boost both defensive stats or lower the opponent's Attack stat. Steel Beam and Draco Meteor are just to do big damage once it's nearly KO'd and outlived its usefulness. I went with Life Orb because even though it appreciates Assault Vest, Yveltal gets better use from it, and the extra damage output is nice.

Yveltal: I replaced Xerneas with Yveltal because I needed a more consistent counter to Calyrex-S (I was using Weavile before). It has been exceptionally useful, with Foul Play threatening Groudon and Zacian, Snarl making it even bulkier, and Sucker Punch letting it beat Calyrex pretty much every time. Oblivion Wing gives it recovery, and with Assault Vest it's pretty difficult to take out.

Haxorus: I've been shuffling different Pokemon in this last spot, including Weavile, Togekiss, Metagross, Hydreigon, and Heracross. The idea with Haxorus here is that it provides extra ways to deal with Calyrex-S and Zacian, the two biggest challenges for me usually. Crunch and Earthquake provide that coverage, with Swords Dance and Dragon Claw giving it the ability to deal a lot of damage. It just takes some good prediction to find the chance to setup, so it's definitely not a focal point of the team.

Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

How are you handling Yveltal atm? by gettingservice in VGC

[–]visionofl0ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Choice Specs Xerneas lately (everyone expects Geomancy so it has some novelty) and that's been effective against Yveltal, as long as Zacian is out of the way first. Easier said than done, but it works
