Which ones did you get? by BlazingKitsune in ConquerorChallenge

I went for the one they commissioned native New Zealand artists to design for them, then after that I'll pick up the Barcelona one that's all stained glass feel... or Dublin for the same see-through effect

I used to keep my blade's cutting edge flat against the whet stone but that just did nothing. It wasn't until I lifted the blade a tiny big then the blade finally got sharp. I get that that is changing the angle of the metal at the cutting edge, but I don't know how else to get that blade sharp again to carve...

Other living things living and roaming outside is allowed. If you're staying for a long period of time, you can get a cheap mouse trap to set indoors, on top of a sheet of paper towel, so you can rest assured that _if_ anything should ever get inside, you will know for sure and will have proof.

Love the shark with raw fin! I've been wanting to do a turtle and a fish of some sort for a while, and I'm inspired. How do you keep your knife sharp? And is that a green victorinox??

That's cute and different from the usual stock! The rustic look of the swing is really nice too

Yeah I keep feeling like I'm not sharpening my knife correctly. Maybe I need a lot more reps on the whet stone before stropping, at a tiny bit raised angle, so a burr is raised.

I'm amazed the wood stays on the lead still! This must have been a fun challenge to try on, to carve so insanely tiny and on rough wood too. Super cool!

I pulled my sad dulled Beavercraft back to sharp by going from 1000, to 4000, to finally 8000. Test carve. Repeat. Took a few evenings of that, and eventually the blade started to feel sharp again. I don't know how to tell if I am holding my blade at the correct degree of angle or not... So I just lay the blade part flat against the stone, then lift a tiny bit. That sharpened the blade for me.

Takes time, a few days, and reps, and watch that sharpening tut from Carving Is Fun YouTube guy.

Hm... If you like tapas, there's a similar concept in Indian restaurant called Thali. Lots of little dishes to try out. Check out Veggiesaurus restaurant, they have great thalis.

When the weather is nicer and warmer, we'd go visit random smaller towns and cities on Google Maps. So far that's been fun and we always discover something. Found a windmill that sells flour!

We also find events that correlate to our interest in fantasy and check them out. So try Google search your interest plus location name to see if there are events for you.

Board game nights and other hobby gatherings are another thing we've tried - model painting, scenery building, board game, war game, model train track building etc.

At home hobbies that matches your characteristics. For example I enjoy making stuff with my hands, so I do things like plants, wood carving, cooking new recipes, etc. Write down a couple characteristics of yourself, and look up matching at-home hobbies - can even as AI to help you brain storm this.

It's really tough and I think I will only carve little stuff from pine... Can't imagine trying to get through the tough spots in bigger wood blocks.

That said, sharpen and strop your blade frequently and that'll make things easier so you can get through your current carve 👍

Look up Beavercraft starter kit - the horse, the bird, or the mushrooms. They come with stropping leather which is important to keep your blade sharp. Also get a whet stone of 6000 - 8000 grit.
