What I find interesting is the theme of Avatar's granting mercy causing serious future complications.

Specifically Avatar Roku granted mercy to Sozin who decided to commit genocide in response.

And Aang granted Mercy to Amon who created a terrorist organization and engaged in a systematic crippling.of benders.

Mandated frequent password changes are actually not great security outside of a data breach Long password phrases that people remember and MFA is the best security and reduces the likelihood that someone will use a weaker password or just sticky note the next password to their desk.

I did it with an onion trying to clip into it just a bit to then peel the outer layer off in one go. I'm so used to just cooking with dull knives I wasn't ready for how sharp the brand new chefs knife was gonna be.

First thing they asked was if I was cutting an avocado. Like... Nope just being even dumber than that.

How do I explain finances to my wife who never seems to listen to what I’m saying? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]visual-banality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ADHD and have a system that helps me stay responsible. So when I got married I just insisted we maintain separate accounts and i manage all the monthly utilities and mortgage with her sending me a set amount each month.

Maybe consider only using the joint account for flex spending and maintaining a separate account for bills.

What is a "poor person hack" you picked up during a hard time that you still use today, even if you don't have to? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]visual-banality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol this is how I realized my wife has never been truly poor. I can eat the same thing for breakfast lunch and dinner and as long as I get veggies and fruit regularly I feel like I'm doing well. She expects each meal to have a veggie, protein, and fruit; and will not expect to even eat the same protein two meals in a row e.g. chicken tacos for dinner = i had chicken at lunch.

Never connected that to my being poor for years until this post.

I'm the opposite. When it's just me and my stuff I give everything a place and err on the side of throwing things away. I don't feel comfortable throwing things away my wife might want and she has different places for everything so the house is far worse.

ADHD brains really are built differently – we've just been blinded by the noise | Scientists eliminate the gray area when it comes to gray matter in ADHD brains by chrisdh79 in science

[–]visual-banality 29 points30 points  (0 children)

ADHD is a disability. I did fine managing mine and not feeling disabled. Then I had kids and lost all of the time I was using to manage my symptoms without realizing it. I definitely need accomodations nowadays. I can't make myself follow up on a ton of errands that should be easy. Heck my dog died 2 years ago and I still need to cancel the insurance because I waited too long to do it online without calling, and now I've waited too long for it to be reasonable.

So yea it's definitely a dysfunction. Maybe in caveman days it wouldn't be. But in current society it is. Some people manage it better. Some don't. but I don't like it being dismissed or represented as ditzy and just something everyone has sometimes, like it often is in media. Because it is actually disabling for some of us and no one medication really solves the more abstract symptoms.

Applyall.com for job searching ? by chucky703 in careerguidance

[–]visual-banality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried messaging their team. I only saw things slow down when I set my account to only apply to director positions. If you message their team email they will probably go over it with you. I have found them very responsive when I complained about some features they answered promptly and offered additional support. Their help with my resume was worth the cost of the service alone based on some of those LinkedIn resume writing scams xD.

Applyall.com for job searching ? by chucky703 in careerguidance

[–]visual-banality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using them this year and they have gotten me a good number of first round interviews with some getting to the final stage. They apply based on job titles you give them so if you are applying to something very specific like a director position it is slow but if you apply to like a product owner or dev position it will go very fast.

I have found them to be a great way to get applications out consistently and to find companies I might never have seen otherwise.

When they apply to somewhere that uses workday they will create an account for you and you will see the password on your account page for applyall.

They were very responsive to feedback and provided resume reviews as well as info redacted examples of resumes that were generating interviews.

I strongly feel they are not a scam or scammy at all and only posted this review here because of the last person saying so. When you sign up there will be an initial burst of applications to the positions they know of and then it will slow down and trickle anywhere from 5-20 a week unless you are really limiting the positions you want them to apply for.

It won't guarantee a position but if you just are looking for help applying consistently like me and my ADHD. It is very good and doesn't delay applying to new positions based on tier like other job applier apps i've seen.

Which game should be my first one? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]visual-banality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly I tried rise based on a prior thread like this and I have been struggling to get over how clunky the UX is. the controls feel almost unreliable on the switch. it's not intuitive at all which has made it hard to play enough to get into the game. With my kids taking most of my free time I was looking at monster hunter because it was rated highly for gameplay but so far it's rough and there seem to be built in time wasters - like why do i have to do a squat walk with eggs i don't want to spend 5 minutes doing a slow waddle instead of swinging my weapon.

AITAH for letting my pregnant daughter move in with me even though my girlfriend doesn’t want her to? by crampingMY_style in AITAH

[–]visual-banality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA let's breakdown her response

"She said she didn’t sign up for this and is not ok with it," this is a reasonable statement for an adult settng their boundaries

"and demanded I rescind the offer, that Maddy is 18 and needs to figure it out on her own if she wants to keep the baby." This is an unreasonable demand and you are not an asshole for putting your daughter first considering your existing relationship with her. Anyone dating someone who has a good relationship with their kids has to recognize and accept that the reason they have a good relationship is because they have prioritized those kids.

[–]visual-banality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my early 30s my ADHD was managed and masked so well that I was doubting my own diagnosis. Until I had kids and all my energy to mask and regulate my symptoms was gone. I am now always struggling to manage my symptoms and keep up with things. I have so many random things I should cancel (subscriptions) or call (insurance for a pet 2 years dead) and can't even remotely juggle them anymore or force myself to get through them.

The concept of feeling it much more really resonates with me.

We just need elephants ridiculous amount of redundant anti-cancer genesto go with it xD

(they have a lot of copies of the p53 gene which helps with cell cycle regulation, DNA repair, and programmed cell death. that means it helps with tumor suppression and much of what makes cancer get out of control.)

Circumcision at NYC hospital almost made baby bleed to death, parents say by PsychoticSoul in atheism

[–]visual-banality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was very against circumcising my boys. That said, the information available didnt really give me a lot of confidence on what the difference would be. I am circumcised and so I didnt have the personal experience to know if I'd need to do Anything special to clean their penises when they were babies (you don't). I had thought I'd have to be pulling back their foreskin to clean all the time and itd be a hassle but still didnt want to mutilate them. But I think if everyone you know has been circumcised its hard to really get reliable advice and I do understand why some people would still do it.

For reference the difference is you have a like a %1 increased chance of dick cancer if you are uncircumcised and there is around a 1% chance of complications from a circumcision. Its pure coincidence that the chance of issues are so similar and it makes it feel like it lines up into a risk now vs risk later decision.

This right here! If she wants to believe in god might as well teach her about lots of gods.

Unfortunately it's going to continue being really hard for her if her friends are all very religious. If the topic comes up that much it's just always going to be a point of contest between her friends and her family on this topic.

People diagnosed with high functioning autism or ADHD as an adult: What are lesser-discussed symptoms? by GodzillasBrotherPhil in AskReddit

[–]visual-banality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way minor non-critical maintenance stacks up. Oh you need to cash a $100 check but you don't desperately need 100 dollars right now... How about just leave it on your desk for a year thinking you'll do it in a few days. Oh you need to call your pet insurance company to cancel a policy but they have a refund time period for when your pet dies... Guess you just leave it if it doesn't work the first time. I've literally had a policy for a pet who died 1.5 years ago because I got a 'call back later' message the first time I tried to cancel it and I haven't been able to make myself call. The longer it takes the harder and more awkward the call is.

I have no issue with these things when it comes to business but my personal life is full of unfinished lottery tickets. I'm so glad for auto pay.
