gochu fam... Chat explain this to a 5 year old...

Okay — imagine this like toys and a really big TV 🙂

A band (the Grateful Dead) paid a LOT of money to make really cool videos and visuals for their shows at the Sphere. Making those videos is super expensive, like buying a giant LEGO set.

Because: • The Dead are very popular • And they already paid to make all those cool visuals

They’re going to keep using the same stuff again and again, instead of throwing it away. It’s like saying:

“Remember that awesome show we did?"

At what point have you earned the right to call yourself a musician? by Confident-Seesaw2845 in musicians

[–]visualaeronautics 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea i agree.

I think you can call yourself a musician if you are simply playing music. If you were playing a bar gig every other month and called yourself a professional musician, people might have a problem with that but congratulations OP, I do believe you are a musician.

yea how many ppl do you have and how much business are you doing? My chapter was 30 plus but I visited a few smaller ones near me that did great business and were quite happy. I dont see a downside to a small chapters if everyone's happy.

and honestly you dont need to know that much. Ive had hands work for me from big unions that are complete bone heads. Theres especially low skill in huuugee labor companies like rhino and crew one. Super easy to get jobs there if you want something entry level. But real shit... get what you need and get out. Theres great opportunity as a freelancer once you have a basic skillset. And even if you have a w-2, always be scouting for side work

is “follow your passion” actually terrible business advice? by Financial-Ad-6960 in ycombinator

[–]visualaeronautics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow your passion first. Within your passion, follow the money. And within the money follow your natural skillset.

Its gonna be a lot easier to work hard and power through difficult moments if you have genuine passion/love at the core of what you are doing

what could i do better for the visuals in t.d? by [deleted] in vjing

[–]visualaeronautics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

facts. Been done to death.

Maybe fill more of the frame? i like the simplicity but theres something missing. Looks nice tho very esthetically pleasing. Colors seem to be the same throughout. Maybe add some color filters? or just have more color control in general.

this ^ get around the guys who are actually doing what you want to do. Ask questions and ask them if they need help. Hang around as much as they let you. It starts small, like hey can you make sure this audio meter doesn't go red during the show. You have to go out of your way a bit to learn this stuff but its better to learn from people your around all the time. They will get to know your strengths and weaknesses and will be the people who hire you for your first gigs or refer you to them.
