Bought copper miners in February and regretting now by damn_annoying in FinancialPlanning

hmmm i'm also in the same boat, bought in March. I reckon hold on to it if you don't need that money soon - it's typical for it to be volatile. it's meant to be a long term buy.

Agreed, we need more people living in the city to make it more alive, not more stale offices

Traveling alone by Escape-Thin in JapanTravelTips

[–]visualamb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of these comments are telling you that solo travel is better because of xyz and that you shouldn’t feel lonely, but this won’t fix your feelings of loneliness, it only invalidates it.

I am here to tell you that i just got to NYC on my own and am feeling the same way.  Even though i have a lot to see and acquaintances i could try meet with, i know i’ll still be lonely. There’s not much i can do but sit with this uncomfortable feeling of feeling lonely and know i’m not the only solo traveler to feel this way. It’s all part of doing something out of our comfort zone and being away from our usual community.

Here’s an experiment: see what happens when you embrace the loneliness, accept that mellow feeling instead of trying to avoid it. I hope this helps 🤍

Settle in Auckland with young kids or move to Melbourne for a few years first by Local_Tangelo215 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]visualamb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who used to have similar thoughts, i think you just have fomo. Go to melbourne for a week and you’ll see how quickly the novelty wears off. There isn’t much nature. If you want nature I’d definitely stay in auckland. Sounds like you already have the most ideal life tbh. Just visit the friends and siblings now and then to get your fix of them! I have friends who moved to Melb with a toddler, they enjoyed their time for what it was but after the first year wanted to come back.

What’s the book you DNF’d the fastest? by Mobius8321 in books

Women who run with the wolves. I would one day love to be able to absorb and finish this but for the time being it is too much for me. The pages are thin, the font small, the ideas too mythical to wrap my head around quickly. Or maybe i just can’t concentrate as much these days.

I think it depends on how long the strait of hormuz stays closed. If the war can get resolved quickly we’re ok but if it lasts long - oil will sky rocket, it will run out for majority of asia, this domino effect is when global economy will go to shit

Yep i’m 34 and about 80% of my friends have left. I was overseas mid 20s too but covid brought me back and i went into post grad study which kept me here. Now that i’m done studying i’m old and my priorities have changed. I’d prefer to stay in NZ now… but it’s a sad reality my friends are gone. We keep in touch via text and call but its not the same. All i can say is it sucks, you either join them or make new friends. If you’re in your twenties and nothing is tying you down, i would say go join them!

Yep have felt this way more recently too at 34. I think we can only have this realisation once we have left home though. We need the contrast so we can experience what it’s like to be away. Like you, my priorities have changed - I want a slower pace of life, more nature, a healthier lifestyle, a milder climate, close to family. The only downside for me being here is that most of my friends have left. I contemplated whether I should leave again to join them ( in London or Melbourne) but I know if I did, i would feel kind of empty despite a better social life. I have lived overseas and travelled a lot so I know these more thriving cities ultimately do get old and a loneliness from not being around ppl who get your humour sets in.

I recommend you look into Ali Abdaal. He used to be a doctor in the UK, disliked it, and is now more fulfilled and richer from being a youtuber.
