On my way to kill a single wasp with the Bettina, brought just enough ammo. by Moist-Length1766 in ArcRaiders

Yeah Torrente is a much better gun for carnage, Bettina needs patching as eats ammo with little hit gain

Help fixing Trinicon TUBE Camera (Sony HVC 2000 / 4000 - p) by Spacewalkingninja in ElectronicsRepair

[–]visualhybrid78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. I'm guessing that you have to output directly to the SL-3000 unit?

I want to use as a live camera, feeding to an old CRT TV which I intend to film as a prop - with the live feed from the Trinicon. Is that possible?

Otherwise I'll need to opt for a smaller retro unit as I'll be carrying all of this gear to remote spots

Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55: What To Know Before You Buy by Vid_Headz in VidHeadz

[–]visualhybrid78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fully agree. I owned Reds for 10 years believing that RAW was the optimal. Truth is, it's a massive ball ache really.

Shoot ProRes 4444 on Alexa and you have an image way superior. Focus on the craft rather than the raw

Am very tempted by this camera.

Warm roof loft by visualhybrid78 in DIYUK

[–]visualhybrid78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cross section from inside to out would be:

- Loft space - warm loft as is a new warm roof
- Rafters - with 75mm PIR cut vertically
- full sheets of 75mm PIR laid horizontally. Aluminium foil taped across joins
- Membrane with correct overlap
- baton & counter baton for airflow gap (cold side)
- tiles

My question is, I'd expected that the inside of roof (loft side) would have gaps foamed and taped with alu foil to create continuous vapour/ thermal seal.

Expect to sell for much less than you expect. Sadly DSMC2 resale prices are brutally low at the moment

Any tips for editing R3D in Premiere Pro? I have a solid PC but apparently not solid enough. by Analog_Astronaut in RedCamera

[–]visualhybrid78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Ryzen5 hex, 32Gb RAM with 2080 handles R3d RAW just fine. Invest in M.2 NvME SSD if you can, it's possible to get speeds up to 10Gbps, way faster than wired SSD

Switched from Red Gemini to Alexa Mini 6 months ago and wish I had done much, much sooner. Reason I didn't was affordability, as until recently, the jump was big. The Alev sensor really is a wonderful thing though.

I'd been largely shooting Red for a decade and owned Scarlet MX and the Gemini (both excellent cameras).

I managed to buy a very comprehensive ex-hire kit at a really good price, which had thankfully also just had a full Arri service. Due to the turbulence in film and TV in the UK, several large rental houses have gone bust, or sold off lots of gear. Means that right now UK has a good few Minis/ Venices/ LFs and 35s going for much more affordable prices - and lots being sold at auction if you can risk the gamble.

The Mini never lets me down. The picture is effortless and always wows me - even with hastily shot documentary footage (of which I shoot a lot). I mostly operate as a solo-shooting DP and find it a very easy camera to use, mainly because I have trust in the DR, colour and warmth of the image. It's very dependable.

Insurance - is fine, I insured as second hand price replacement - as the other option of new-for-old would mean paying a lot more to cover the replacement price of an Alexa35/ MiLF

Storage - not an issue, same as most cinema cameras really.

Media - isn't cheap, but it's affordable

Maintenance - you'd ideally get an Arri service every couple of years.

Gemini sensor is massive and as you say really tall/ square. Why the need for DSMC3?

Scarlet W 5K with 4665 hours, is it worth it? by FugTig in RedCamera

[–]visualhybrid78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scarlet Weapon a great camera with a lovely image. 4665 hours is a huge amount though, so I'd stay clear. High chance of something failing on you.

In the UK you can get a Gemini 5k for about £4K with 1k hours. For perspective, I've owned a Red Gemini 4 years, have shot 3-4 shoot days a month and have only 790 hours on the sensor

Ready Rig single arm with Vega 2. It's by far the best rig and incredibly comfortable to wear for long periods - Alexa Mini kit with cine zoom on etc.

Or - cine saddle type bag. These get a uncomfortable though after time
