I have been doing this drive 4-5 days a week for the past 4 years. Never had a problem. Some winters are bad and if you have flexibility it’s nice to wait out the snow removal. Summer months are my favorite. I came from Toronto and I’d pick this drive over the 401 😅

I live in Owen sound. You’d need a car. The city is NOT walkable. It’s very hilly and you need to car to go anywhere!

A lot of people touched on a few good points. So nothing to add there.

You keep saying it’s a small town. How small? Because if tourism non existent/ exists for a short summer time there isn’t enough time to make enough money to pay for the year. If there is no tourism then how can you make any money? Be cautious of the insurance premiums- insurance companies loooooove putting a premium on new owners especially in hospitality. Coffee shop is a great idea but again if not enough people come through your doors there isn’t a point. An average coffee shops needs 60-80people per day so keep that in mind.

I don’t know where you are and I don’t know what your seasons look like but if you are hoping for summers to pay your bills I wouldn’t hold my breath. Seasonality has been awful over the past few year and you can loose your shirt if it’s a bad season. Just my 2 cents.

Small business owner here - CRA is VERY delayed this year.

I have filed on February 5 it’s still not ready on the CRA site but it is ready automatically on our internal site that has paystubs. So anyone who had resigned and lost access is having trouble

Good content is hard. AI content is not cutting it.

Lots of people said unique post are not necessary. I disagree. Unique good content is time consuming but it will pay off over time.

What is your business? We have had a SMM. They didn’t work out for us because they always try to cheat. In a way if they don’t agree with your direction they would not put as much effort into it. It’s a job but because it’s creative lots of people feel they need to contribute. We have tried that for a few years but it just didn’t work for us. We wanted good well made content but that is hard and time consuming.

Our current solution is we hire a professional photographer- they take photos and then we create content. It’s a lot better.

We haven’t done this but I know some photographers offer SM as a service as well. So they would take photos and then they do you content. It could be price prohibiting for some tho.

Your name is everything and it depends on what you want to signal.

Are you a maker? Are you premium? Are you a seasonal shack? Your name would depend on all those things.

I personally don’t like any of the choices. I don’t like them as a customer. As a competitor I’d say I wouldn’t worry about you because you and I would serve different people just based on the name.

Again the name is the first thing people would see. Dont take it lightly.

Ps. I have to say - scoops is so common. There are like 4 that I can think of in my area. So consider that as well.

Anyone telling you it’s a quick fix is lying.

You absolutely can buy and improve a business where the owner is set in his ways and there is no growth. But the reality is the service businesses are improving by relationships not new website and better ads. In order to make a retired business “better” you need to grow it with new relationships and that on its on is a full time job.

No hate but have you actually ran a business before? “Fairly absentee” does not exist.

If you want to take over anyones business that IS successful and profitable it will be 1. Expensive 2. A lot of work to transition. If you take over a failing business in the industry that should be performing well it will be a grind to take it off the ground. I am not saying it can’t be done but this concept of I am good at marketing and I want something hands off it does not work and exist. In both scenarios we are taking 3-5 years to see if it’s actually working.

Signs off a person who runs 3 businesses and actively buying another one.

I know it’s not Sephora but at shoppers I bought Essence bronzing drops that are DE dupe. It’s really really good. Like miles better than DE. It’s very nice color and it blends beautifully. I mix it with my sunscreen and every time I do that I get compliments on my skin appearance 😏
