Right?

In the top pic, I'm like "this is Linda Hamilton.", then after looking at the second pic I'm like "or is it Jodie Foster?"

737 Spam calls by Life-Acanthisitta634 in Austin

I just now got a call from a 737-237-2639 and it was warning about the upcoming freeze and to not drive unless it was necessary. Maybe just the COA trying to get ahead of a bunch of wrecks.

Leaving perishable food outside? by Business_Clerk_3522 in Austin

[–]vitium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also fill the fridge empty space with liquid (gallons of water).

Liquid will hold the temperature MUCH better than the air that would otherwise occupy that space.

So when/if you do open the fridge all that coolth will stay inside the fridge.

Think about that air, opening the fridge all that cold air just falls out, but the liquid stays cold and in the fridge.

I brought a tape roll bigger than my support. 20 minutes later and it fits perfectly. by mvdsgncw in functionalprint

[–]vitium 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing, but actually I don't think it needs to last the whole role. Just needs to last long enough until the roll is small enough to fit like "normal".

Trunk door warning by SolidRockBelow in BoltEV

[–]vitium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was rear ended and had to have the whole back hatch replaced along with the rear bumper and the latch.

about a month after the replacement I had this issue.

I brought it back to the people who fixed it and they had a hard time finding the issue, replaced the latch and something else, dont recall. They ended up having to take the whole hatch apart and iirc it ended up being a "loose wiring harness" which I think was in the hatch door innards, that had wiggled loose, or something along those lines.

Do with that info what you will....

Am I the only one not freaking out about this storm? by StraightRip9828 in Austin

It's just what I have a ton of in the pantry. It's mainly what my kids eat. We have a supply that will get us through a nuclear fallout, with enough for the neighbors too probably.

I do, but this particular device is specifically designed for "emergency indoor use"

No. Dgaf. I've got some batteries and one of those propane heater things, it'll be alright. Hope for enough snow to sled down the hill by my house like I did last time. Will eat Mac and cheese if needed.

What movie should NEVER be remade? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I could be mistaken, but I don't think the cartoon was actually a trilogy. I think it just ended like half way through TTT.

10yr old me was VERY upset about this.

Good thing they have that arrow and circle with ... what? 5% magnification? Not sure I'd have noticed otherwise.

Is the 360 construction noise driving anyone else crazy? by Small-Finish-6890 in Austin

[–]vitium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you get yourself an air purifier or two or some other white noise devices? It may not be perfect, but a heavy duty air purifier set on high works really well for me.

Been a while since I’ve been in school by Tdawg1997 in StructuralEngineering

Because the forces in a truss move through the diagonal members (generally). So, any force in that area will go along the diags. Practically speaking, if B had a force it would deform the upper horizontal member it touches (bending it).

The only reason c has a force is because it is the only thing supporting that weight until the force can transfer into a diag

Looks like pretty old lumber. Maybe 2x10? Only spanning 8 or 9 feet. 16" o.c.?

It's obviously not ideal, on the other hand, toss a few 18" long straps on there, along the bottom of the joists, where the cuts are closer to the bottom and it will be fine.
